Has anyone recently had this website illegally withdraw money from your PayPal? I have never visited it (I visit a very narrow/controlled number of websites) and today it withdrew $50 from my account. PayPal flagged it and I've submitted a dispute as well. This is very frustrating as I finally sold one of my sale items and really need the money, and it will likely be stuck in limbo for another week or two now. The other really odd thing is that I received emails regarding this (from the official PayPal address), which I opened as they came in (via Windows Live Messenger). However, a few minutes later I went back to review them and the emails were gone -- not in my inbox, folders, or trash, and I certainly didn't delete them. This makes me wonder if my email was compromised at the same time. I've reset all my already ridiculously long passwords and just thought I'd give a heads up on this whole scenario since many of you use PayPal.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't use paypal very often, and I don't keep money in the account. But definitely a good warning.

So far, I've received an email from PayPal stating that, "Your subscription to 3 months for $16.65 per month has been cancelled by Singlesnet.com. You will not be billed for this subscription again." I have not received any money back, however. They ask the seller to respond within 7 days but the wording of the message above makes it sound like they already have heard back from the seller. It's been 3 days since then and no refund. PayPal also provides the seller's email and phone. Am I supposed to contact them to get the money back? I have no desire to allow this sleazy website to get my phone number or email (assuming they don't already have it seeing as the sleazebags already stole the money) if I try to contact them. Thoughts?

I had my PayPal account locked by paypal for whatever reason... I beleave someone was trying to access it. I had to change my password and prove that i was the owner to remove the limitation the placed on it after the event.... Was a pain. I never even heard of Singlesnet.com com untill now... how long have you been using them? Or did they just take money and you dont even have a account?

I've never used their site, or any online dating site. It was completely out of the blue. They somehow charged me $49.95, I am still not sure how unless they just guessed which of my emails was associated with that PayPal and even then not sure how they'd have authorized it. PayPal has my account under limited access (I can't even move what little money is left over) and are asking me to provide a photo of a utility bill or card info to confirm my identity/address. Frankly I don't want to give that to even PayPal. The entire situation is lame and I hope it doesn't happen to any of you.

PayPal temporarily gave me the funds back, now it appears I will get a full actual refund within a week or so. (It's a little confusing, the money already appears to be available.) They also unlocked my account without me having to provide any bank statements or other things I didn't want to give them. Overall, while I am shocked that someone was able to withdraw money like this, I am very pleased with PayPal's response. Especially considering how little they are "paid" via fees and that I don't consider PayPal to "owe" its customers very much. Good job PayPal!

PayPal actually makes a lot off of their fee's. It depends on how you get hit with them. They are also owned by eBay (which has been raising fee's like nobodys business.) They take 2-5 dollars from me per transfer, depending on how much money is being sent to me from an eBay buyer. Only way to avoid stuff like that is to have a business account and set up things with them to lower the % of money they take per transaction. They make thousands of transactions per day. Adds up really fast. I had a similar issue where someone actually got ahold of my eBay account and was in the middle of trying to adjust my paypal account but I was active at the time so I noticed when I was trying to sell a 40,000 dollar truck and was charged like 200 dollars to post it... It was fixed within a few hours, but yeah... don't know how they even got it. The response made me think it was an internal security issue... But it has not happened since, so I don't know.

Over the last year I have received several phising attempts in my e-mail. If you send it in to PP they will look it over and confirm or deny the phony e-mail. The suspect e-mails looked legit. I have had several that were confirmed. For goodness sake dont click on the links. Very strange Warthorn thanks for the warning.

Yeah I've gotten those fishy ones too and reported a few. Luckily I only ever log in after searching for the site and looking at the URL manually. @ rain, I'm sure they make a lot of money or wouldn't provide the service they do, just meant that in comparison to what most individual customers likely "pay" through fees it's pretty darn good service.

☄ Helpful
Reformat your computer, You either have a keylogger on your computer or a remote access tool, they obviously are watching you, and your email/accounts, deleting the information prior to you receiving it so you do not dispute and or cancel your card. Ever time i use paypal i remove my bank and or creditcard info right after i buy something and re-enter it at a later date again, but from the looks of it you have someone watching you and your accounts. If you have entered your bank and or credit info on your computer lately, cut your card and get a new one. Someone has full access to your information. You could of received this from purchasing software online, downloading software from people, or even going to an infected site, with a java script exploit and or flash exploit . One little program defect can cause hackers to gain full access to trusted software, and in turn they can put access or keylog tools onto your computer, with frequent updates. I would also ask paypal for the IP addresses logged into your account, and also phone your internet service provider, for any suspicious incoming connections to your computer, most likely the hacker will use a proxy or several, making it very hard to trace and or catch him... but its worth a try to find the culprit. If you like you can open Run> cmd and type netstat -a , to see foreign incoming connections to your computer, anything suspicious you can write down. Call the dating site, and ask them for the account or user name and email that you are singed up under, and tell him to check into it as well. Just based on the mail thing you told me i know this is the case, he was logged into your hotmail, and deleted the emails before you could read them. Reformat first, get new cards and then change all your passwords, it may be an inconvenience, but if hes an **** he will pull another one on you. Judging from the dating site, hes probably a kid messing around on a dating site for free due to your information or... its a company that illegally pays people to sign up, and they keep the funds, i have heard this story with AV companies paying people to make Viruses as well. Glad pay pal resolved the money, but you still need to protect your self, just encase.

Thanks for the info hellsteel. I believe you are correct, but I think the information was compromised on a family member's computer. My grandmother got a severe trojan infection on her machine (right as this was happening) which I was unable to clean out. It is possible they got my information from her email account and possibly the password from a copy of Windows Live that I had the pw saved on. As soon as I got a hold of her computer I d/c the HDD so she can't cause any more issues and will do a full reformat when I get a chance. I'd like to learn more about the netstat command though, what should I watch for?

This is of course if you decide to pursue these loooooosers.
