My understanding is that the 5520 chipset supports up to 192 gig of ram when using reg ecc memory. And only 48 gig of memory when using udimms.

Very interesting..can somebody from Evga confirm this what Isudvm says ,and would be great that we can put 192Gb (12 x 16Gb ECC memory) in the SR-2 motherboard! The link from safield memory comes then a nice deal! Thanks, JP.

48 GB @ 1333 MHz is currently the maximum stable capacity according to EVGA's testing. The 5520 chipset in general does support up to 192 GB with 16 GB modules, however this may or may not apply to the SR2 board at this time. YMMV

I think what you meant was that 48GB of non ECC ram is the max stable configuration. I am running 72GB of ECC registered ram in mine and it works fine. I think the max stable with ECC registered ram is 96GB. Thanks, Donovan

Actually the stability of the system is not really the issue with using more ram. its that the extra Ram will lower the access speed of your processors AND RAM/ while you have enough ram for anything you are not using it effectively or even really intelligently. Because you overload the bandwidth of the processors and just end up downgrading your memory.
