KassonWe've turned off bigadv on linux for the time being. We're switching bigadv over to A3, but as you may have noticed there's a bug in the linux A3 core that affects bigadv stability. We've been working on the bug, but it's still in hiding at this time. If you're running VM's under windows, I'd suggest trying the native windows client, which is still enabled for bigadv. OS/X is also still enabled.

I've been running it for a few hours now:

Works well, but PPD (as usual) for the 2684s sucks.

It´s the regular win smp client with the -bigadv instead of -advmethods flag

If you´re in vista/win7 you need to disable uac and it doesn´t like to be installed in the programms folder (C:FAH is fine though)

Interesting. I wish the 2684's were done (or fixed) though.
I'll switch over and see what my 930 gets on it. If the PPD and stability is better than it was on linuxrouters image program, I'll run it.

I just picked up a Windows bigadv 2684. I really hope that these see more stability in Windows than they did in Linux.

Well this is interesting indeed. I have a i7 920 that will soon be at 4.0ghz on water, along with (2) 480s on water. I usually run -smp 6 on the 920 to keep the480s happy and the system free for internet use.

My question is can I run bigadv now natively in Win7 if I run -smp 6 or -smp 7? Also, I usually game for about 2-3 hours a day so could I still complete the bigadv work units in time?

Thanks guys, I sure hope I can muster up bigadv to work in my system. I really don't want to spend the extra cash to build a dedicated bigadv i7 920 box.

In theory yes. The reason people were able to run -smp 7 in Linux VM was because the VM was configured with 8-cores. The folding client needs to be able to see at least 8 cores before it will attempt to download bigadv work. Project 2684 takes considerably longer to complete than p2681-2683 via Core A2. With a 920 @ 4.0 GHz, I think you will be fine if you were to run -smp 8. With a 920 @ 4.0 GHz, my completion time for 2684 was a little over 3-days and the preferred deadline is 4-days. 7-core folding may or may not be fast enough. You might be cutting it close to the 4-day deadline.

I've just downloaded the windows sytem tray client but it's only using 13%cpu (1 thread I suppose)  how do I get it to use 7 threads and run bigadvs?

First -bigadv wu started. This is on a 980X @ 3.63 running on all cores 100% and running 1 GPU client at the same time.

That sounds like the GPU client you have running. You want to start a new thread and we can see if we can get your issue(s) worked out there. We don't want to go off topic in here.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting any -bigadv work units. I guess I'll try the Windows client tomorrow. Any idea how much memory the Windows client uses while doing -bigadv work?

Any more info along with that? Other clients or gadgets running? I have Precision and a CPU Usage gadget running as well as AVG. AVG could be adding a bit to it.

The rig I'm on right now is an i5-750 with a GPU client running, and Precision, HFM, IE8, AVG, F@H gadget, CPU Usage gadget, Clock gadget, and Calendar gadget. Currently using 1745MB.

Amazingly low memory footprint on these 2684s.

Even on my dual hex system running -smp 24, Folding is only using about 1.4GB of memory.

Neither, but you´ll have to ditch your vms and run the native win smp client if you want to continue folding the bigadv.
If you still can run them with -smp 7 there idk

I just switched over to the 2684's.  Way too soon for a ppd estimate. I
also have to take system down in the morning for the PSU upgrade.
I just hope this runs better than on vmware.  For myself, was never stable.
It looks like it's using 1.6mb of memory.

The only problem I have heard of was using the -smp 11, for some reason it didn't like that number for someone. It should work just the same as always for the flags.

I'm seeing PPD down quite a bit from native Linux -bigadv.  Currently on a 2684 with my SR-2 dual hex machine and getting TPF of 17:03 for a PPD of 87.5k.  So somewhere around a 20-30% PPD drop over A2 -bigadv.

If you're also GPU folding, then yes, I would still run -smp 7.  Otherwise, I'd experiment with 7 and 8 and see what works better.
