Hi all,

I've got a classified 760 w/ i7 920 at 4.2 w/ turbo, 12gigs of ram (dominator 1600 c7, at 9's, 2T), win7-running bigadv thru vmware thanks to your wonderful guides and help. the client has been stable while running bigadv -smp 8 for a few weeks now.

here's the issue-i've got a single 295 in there now, and only half (ie, 1 GPU) is stable (the other EUE's right off the bat). dummy plugs don't fix it. i've tested this 295 in another system and it's fine. i've tried 2 other 295's in other systems-where they're fine-but they EUE in this system (even at stock settings save fan at 100% tru precision). card temps are fine (below 80C). w/ the board at after a cleared cmos-the cards fold fine. so it's something i'm doing.

i'm not a very good overclocker- i rely on good cooling-the cpu has a true copper lapped w/ a 240cfm delta on it as pull and a 110cfm 25mm delta as push (ram's in the way!) i don't know all my settings off the top of my head but here's a good attempt w/ my cheat sheet.

vcore: 1.35 (vdroop on)
VTT +250
QPI PLL 1.275
dimms at 1.65
IOH vcore is auto
VTT PWM 250
CPU PWM 800
cpu impedance less
<something illeligble> less.

PCIE frequency: i've tried 100, 101, and 103. no changes.

speedstep off
turbo on

I assume it is something i'm doing w/ either too much voltage or not enough, or there actually IS some instability that my testing (and also bigadv in a 95F apartment) hasn't caught.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Van_Arnam

Have you tried running -bigadv W/-smp 7 wile folding w/gpu.
I belive it's good practice to leave 1 core for the gpu.

that's what i ran at first (then i just went to smp 8 as it didn't change anything).

the output file for the GPU reads the usual UNSTABLE MACHINE going to send back what's been done etc etc...

I would try using -smp 7 as suggested.. making sure your GPU is using the only core your CPU is not using. If you no longer EUE, that's it.
    It is standard practice.

The GPUs are unstable even if I'm not running bigadv-even right after entering win 7.

Are you running the latest beta drivers?..there's more than a few ppl that have had success with their 295's now that these drivers are here..

Here's a thread with info that may help you:

mflanaga-great idea. still on something in the 190's not sure off the top of my head.

re power: got a corsair hx1000 on there now. should do 2 295's and bigadv no problem. there's lots of other PSU's here just in case :) even if it's just 2 GPU's that i end up putting on this board that's ok, but i've got a classy 4 way not running yet and i need to turn some of that pcie real estate into folding slots (otherwise the value added over some other cheaper board is decreased).

Your HX1000 will be fine.  I've got the same PSU with my dual-PCB GTX295s and no issues.  I'll also concur with downloading and installing the latest Nvidia 257.15 beta drivers.  You won't need dummy plugs or have to extend the desktop.  After installing just go into the NCP and disable SLI and you'll be set.  Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
