I get this error for each core in the system log on startup with a core i7 920.
 
Performance power management features on processor 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
Any suggestions on clearing this error?

I have flashed to the latest BIOS.

    I just checked my error log and I see that it happened once to me as well.  ?? :S

    ... hmm...

    Some boots will give me that message on all 8 cores and some boots don't give me an error message.

    What power saving features are you using?  C state?  Speedstep?

    I have speedstep disabled and C6 enabled.  My C6 seems to be working fine though so I don't know what the error message means.

    I know that I have speedstep disabled.  I am not as familiar with C state settings.  I will check them this evening.

    The errors can be completely ignored; it means absolutely nothing since you disabled SpeedStep functionality.

    I haven't done research on this issue; which I should have done before posting.

    You are stating that this error occurs because Speedstep is disabled?  If speedstep were enabled, would the error disappear?

    As always, I am too busy right now to investigate.  Thanks for the insight.


    These are the errors I get on every boot in the Administrative Tools Event Viewer Kernel Processor Power log.  I thought it was at random, but it is indeed confirmed to be at every boot, not just random:

    Performance power management features on processor 3 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.


    Performance power management features on processor 5 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

    Performance power management features on processor 1 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

    Performance power management features on processor 7 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

    Confirmed!

    Enabling speedstep causes the error message to no longer appear.

    So it appears to result from disabling speedstep in the BIOS?  I will confirm for myself this evening.

    So the next question is, do I want speedstep enabled?  Any thoughts perfomance wise?
     
     
    Update: Confirmed.  No more errors with speedstep enabled.

    what it does it lower your multi from 21-20 to a lower number depending on your cpu load, at idle mine goes down to 12 wich is only 2.2ghz not 3.8ghz. performance wise it dosn't really matter to much cuase as soon as you need the power it goes back to the highest multiplyer possible

    I also received these event log errors. I went ahead and enabled SpeedStep and CE State was already enabled. Then in power management in Win 7 I set Min CPU to 100% and Max to 100%. I didn't want any instability with regards to voltage fluctuations since I'm running my i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz.

    This happens if you have speedstep disabled and or C3 C6  enabled  but in the windows power profile you have something other than 100% for minimum cpu power state.
