I just did the 59 bios update. For a core i7 920 owner, any benefit to changing?

We need a couple "guinea pigs" to go from SZ2Z to this and see how it works with E758's... Any volunteers?

I just got 4.21ghz @ 1.37v Linx and Prime stable...BIOS updates have a way of mucking up OC's even when you put the exact same settings back in...I'll wait. I just flashed to 59 yesterday...what happened to...60-63?

No problems so far. Running at 3.8 at stock voltages and an hour of CAD rendering (the ultimate stress test if you ask me). 60-63 must have been bad luck. Or, this is better luck since 6+4=10, or 6*4=24, or uhh, never mind. I like it so far.

Teaprty i havent had a bios bootup logo since SZ2Z does this fix that? Due to bios size restriction, the amount of coding being added makes it where they had to leave the logo out to allow everything to fit. So now you need to ask which is more important. The additional microcode and board tweaks that have been added since 2z or a pretty picture at bootup.

So what does this "Turbo Performance" option in BIOS do anyways? except for lowering my mem to 1280 Mhz instead of 1600

If there is a benefit to this bios over sz2z then I may think about the update, as of now I see NO Reason to flash. I am on a i7920 with no plans to upgrade for a while.

No, there's little compelling reason to update to a newer BIOS if you're using an i7 920 (which is a 45nm CPU). So far it looks like the recent BIOS updates since then primarily benefit 32nm CPUs, while making things more complicated for 45nm CPUs.

Since that's a 45nm CPU, I'd recommend keeping with the BIOS version you're using. Some users of 45nm CPUs have reported better overclocks with the newer BIOSes, while others have seen the opposite. So unless you just like to tinker for the fun of the challenge, I'd stick with what you have. Owners of B1 stepping 32nm CPUs (the 980x) should like this BIOS, though: the new UnCore:DRAM ratio opens a lot of overclocking potential and the new memory settings option will be something interesting to experiment with. Sub-Zero Cooling addicts with multiple video cards will probably like the fact that it shows how many GPUs were detected during POST.

SpeedMax Does this Bios fix the power off power on cycle that was in Bios 59? If you are referring to the power-off/power-on that during a warm reboot that occurs when VT (Virtualization Technology) is enabled, then this BIOS should behave the same as 59 in the regards. bschwab355 Turbo Performance" how is helping my 980x?? I am running 2000Mhz ram and my system will BOD on me If enable this. 980x @ 4.5Ghz 145mhz bus 2000Mhz ram. Sounds like you're already at your limit with 4.5GHz, you could try tinkering with voltages, or if you're happy with what you have, disable it. Turbo Performance is a more intelligent form of Turbo Mode, that under certain load conditions can add an additional bClock's worth of frequency to a single core, as opposed to just regular "TURBO MODE" which adds only one bClock's worth to all cores.
