    E762 & 980X

Installed for 2 hours. Running the same OC as BIOS 49 & 51 (980X @ 4510MHz, X33 - 137, Ram 12GB@1648MHz) So far so good. I don't use VT or sleep. I'm not sure if this is with the BIOS or the CPU Temp senors, but (for me) idle temps with the 980X's are still incorrect.

    Time for more testing.

These changes are targeted for 6-core CPU users.  I'd recommend BIOS S22D for your Quad-Core  i7-920

Why is it that a lot of people on here recommend BIOS S22D for the i7-920?  I have an i7-920 and I'm running BIOS E760_51 right now and overclocked stable @ 4.01 GHz with 12GB of Corsair Dominator RAM.  I haven't had any problems with the newer BIOS versions.

Is there some type of advantage that BIOS S22D has over the newer ones or is it better for overclocking or what?  I'm just curious.

Thanks in advance for any answers to this :)

As far as I can figure it is just that a lot of people experience the best stability S22D when using the quad cores. It isn't unanimous though, I get my best overclock with bios 44. I may try these in a week or so though.

Some of the later BIOS revisions after S61J started messing up RAM timings above DDR3 1600 when the "Turbo Performance" mode was used, CL timings after resume from S3, and a bunch of fixes/breaks for the "double-pump" problem with VT.  From what I've read a lot of these micro-code changes are for Gulftown, especially the "Turbo Performance" on top of the x1 Turbo multiplier, which basically allows for the x2 multi to kick in more often.

Anyways, I'll try this one out, BIOS 51 was the first usable BIOS for me after S61J as it fixed the S3 resume CL issue, I'm still hoping this BIOS or a future one fixes the x16/x1 to x8/x1 switching problem on the 760.

Has anyone else noticed that your Display Controller and Multimedia Devices are now been given IRQs at boot? Look at the device screen just before Windows boots. Use to not see any irqs assigned to the display controller and multimedia device in any bios. But now this one shows irqs for boot.

Just got the scare of my life.I flashed to this new bios and set everything up and got blue screen after blue screen. After raising my voltages in bios everything was good.I checked some things and it turns out my thermaltake 1200 was showing very low 3.3 and low +5 volts.Put my ultra psu in and everything is fine. This bios seems to be working great now.

I would say it's the microcode updates to apply a critical fix as recommended by intel, being described here:

ShockTheMonkey, "Display Controller and Multimedia Devices are now been given IRQs" I see it, but I don't remember if it was there before. I have to flash some more boards later. I check it.

rwoodburn1, With the new BIOS 56, my +3.3V dropped from 3.20V to 3.10V, my +5V dropped from 5.10V to 5.00V and my +12V dropped from 12.10V to 12.04V. That's all at idle with a PCP&C 1200W and using ELeet to montior. It really doesn't bother me right now, but I'm sure it will eat at me late .

I wish evga would give a little more details on new BIOS.

I have had issues with that power supply in the past I think. My volts were more than .5 lower than minimum on each. Its hard to keep track of all the junk I have. I hate to throw any computer parts away. This time I did though.

I'm still showing problems when comparing Vantage benchmarks with these recent BIOSes that support the 980-X when compared to the S61J BIOS.

My dual 5970s, with everything at stock, net me about a 22500 GPU score with the Extreme preset in Vantage using S61J.  This is consistant and repeatable; the score fluctuates around 100 points.

Using any BIOS since 41, all of which seem to be primarily designed for the new six-core processors, my GPU score using the same BIOS settings and everything at stock drops to between 18900-20500 - again, using the Extreme preset.  This reduced score is inconsistant and fluctuates, but is repeatable and never really approaches the performance I see under the S61J.  So I'm seeing a 10-15% GPU score loss.

I tried playing around with a few settings that might be related - increasing IOH Vcore a bit, resetting ESCD, changing PCIE Payload, but nothing changes the Vantage results.

I'll wait til next weekend, that way I get a good consensus

I'm with you on this one. I'm using 49, and everything is working great, so unless there is some kind of improvement with 56, I'll be staying right here.

Here is the iso link. I had to go back to it since this new bios does not support XMP memory profiles

S22D is for the E759 board, for the E760 board that you list in your signature, you should use S61J  link : http://cdn.evga.com/bios/E760S61J.bin   same BIOS features, just designed for the E760.

Looks like the issue of missing 1.5x uncore multiplier for 6 core CPUs still presists....

Do you have a retail or engineering sample of the CPU?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 1.5 ratio was only available with the engineering samples of the CPU, and they changed it back to 2x ratio on production CPUs
