With the new promotion out some of our team members are falling short of their goal...100,000/250,000 points in a month.

One decent GPU could mean the difference between making it or not.
So maybe we can come up with a contest for those that can't make the monthy goal.

Right now I have 4 9600gso's sitting doing nothing (I fried the PSU and am too lazy to change it out). I might be willing to donate some of them if we get enough people interested in the contest.

I need your ideas on how to run the contest.
I'm a too much of a noob to actually run it but would be willing to chip in for the prizes. Any takers on helping out??

If we are looking to help out our smaller folders and get them folding more points it seems like we should limit the contest to folks who have less than 8300 PPD. That is the amount of folding needed to make the 250000 points a month.

I have been thinking about thas as well. It should not be based on points accumulation since these are our smaller folders. I thought that if they signed up and folded for a month there could be random awards for the folks who have committed to the contest at the end of the month.

You would also need to limit it to people who had shown a committment to folding already by a minimum number of points they have already accumulated for the team. Say 500,000 or something like that.

It should definitely not be based on "why do you fold". Way too subjective and it's been already done.

I agree with you RC, the contest should be about helping the folder that has been with EVGA and wants to increase his/her contribution to the team.

I think 500k is a little too much for us little guys, I know I have been folding since Christmas eve and I still only have 263k points, maybe something more like 250k is more reasonable to show commitment

If you do, there's one big problem that needs to be addressed.  People have a ton of folding power that they just don't use and then they use it when a contest comes around and it's way more than what they had to be under  to go into the contest.  Bottom line, if they get too high PPD during the contest, they should be kicked out.

I'm down for a contest, sounds fun but it wouldn't be fair for somebody like me to be competing for a prize when it's for the more little guys.  That would be fun if there was a larger tier for people who want to compete but don't want to win a prize.

I think it is a great idea, but aren't we getting close to Chimp Challenge time? We'll want people to fold under EVGApes and not their own names. I don't know what the date will be and if we can pull off the contest before then. Just something to think about.

The Chimp Challenge is a competition between different folding teams each year. There's a topic in the forum about it. Last year was the first year we competed as a team. We came in second.

I don't want to derail Tank's excellent idea. I am merely wondering if there is time enough prior to the CC to do this well.

Tank, whatever you decide, go with it. I'll see if I can assist somehow. Thanks for your leadership here.

Agreed. That is why I said to not base it on points, but on showing an interest signing up and committing to fold for a month regardless of points. If we aim this at our smaller points folders, we would be defeating the purpose bt making at a points contest. I also agree with tha concern that it is close to the CC and that might be a factor.
The 500,000 point base is just a starting suggestion, we could use any number the group agrees on.

Well it would be nice if you could open it to those around 5k ppd, have them fold for a week or 2, then have a random drawing for those in the top 20. I think that would be pretty fair.

just my .02 since i know you know, i hosted many contest here at evga before myself i will be glad to help out best i can and for advice i think you have seen plenty of variations with the contests i did in the past. would reach out towards the people who have been here folding less then 8500 ppd and having a track record of folding for atleast 2 moths here. and fr those that enter do a random drawing because of many ways i have found over other contests that the stats can be swayed one way or another.

shoot me a pm if you need more info as to what i am talking about but it should be to help the low ppd folder who will also use the card to fold here at evga and already haveing proved thatby folding hereover say the past 2 months just my .02 on that

well tank i think it is a great idea and i know those are great folding cards first hand ;)

    good man!

I forgot about the CC coming so quick, There are alot of good ideas out there. I agree that a PPD contest isn't really the way to go since we are trying to help out our teamates boost their output.
It could be as simple as: you must be an active folder for EVGA for two months and are willing to use these cards for folding. Then do a random drawing. I have 4 cards so we could do two winners of two cards each. That should bump up their daily average.

@pgmoney...yeah these were good cards but when I rebuild my folding rig I'm prob going to do a I7 with my 260 that I have sitting around. I'd rather see them go to a teamate then get a few bucks for them.

be a nice idea tank but you have to consider the user that wins those cards needs systems to use them on. I for example can't, cause my i7 has 3 PCI-E slot (2 of them being used) and my old system only has 1 PCI-E slot (which is used)

still a generous offer though :)

you "could" hold a contest that if you fold for EVGA post in the thread and have it be verififyable through EOC for so long ... and have then fold for say 2 weeks after the CC and then hold a drawing for those that have entered for the Cards ... just a thought

I was would say lets hold a contest.
I still have a ton of swag from PAX east
    I don't like that I can't fold.
My computer is not on because of all the flooding in the basement.
    ahh everything is in boxes.
Once they fix all the 470/480 issues the ppd will spike up and also when the CC starys.

Sounds like a great idea :)
Actually, this sounds like a contest that I fit into, I am a "small" folder but I contribute as much as I can. The more points I can fold-> the more bucks I can get -> more bucks= more video cards -> more video cards= more PPD :P

This sounds pretty good.  Out of curiosity, are these the 48SP or 96 SP models?  If they are the 96 then they could do 100K on their own.

I think the contest is a great idea. I believe there should be categories intentionally selected to include the most people. and we can base those categories on stats that are readily available to us like most improved weekly average based on the persons average over the last 4-8 weeks(or whatever time frame whoever make the rules feels comfy with,) then you can roll in to the most improved monthly average contest, based on the average of the past 3-6 months prior to the contest. And you have to decide if once a person wins a prize, can they win again? Basically look at rules from, some type of, similar contest. Maybe EVGA wont mind if some of the EVGA Buck rules serve as a model to help tailor rules for this contest. You can tell who the new folders are by looking at the monthly average, my stats from Dec. '09 back are all "0." I'm for anything that might ramp up WU production and team PPD. A contest implies there will be competition and we have to understand people will do things for contest they normally wouldn't do. Some people may not have the resources to fold all the time, but are able to ramp up efforts for a short time. On another note, this contest should in no way(IMO) run concurrent with the CC, as in the CC we all fold under one user, if I'm correct, I am a noob to folding myself
