I've been asked by a few people to post my experiences as a first time water cooler. I've been around PCs since TRS-80 Model 1. So ya I'm an old guy and learning new things. Special thanks to sledgehammer70 for leading me into a spending frenzy. Please visit his thread as he has some excellent pictures and detailed information with links to specific hardware. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=247816 I will be updating this thread for all those curious on how my new build comes along. I'm going from an EVGA 790i Ultra SLI, E8400 @ 4ghz, 2xGTX 280, 8GB ram, Corsair HX1000W etc etc to this new build. Most of the parts list below, I am still undecided 100% on whether I will go with W3520/920 or just get the 980X. Here's the details and a pic so far, pic has just the new watercooling stuff that arrived today, cpu and MB is going to be tested on bench first before I assemble that beast. I haven't had buyer's remorse since I got my new car but it hit me only 20 min after clicking the confirm button. WC setup will be 1xQuad rad for CPU, 2xTriple for GPUs separate loops. 1 x EVGA X58 SLI (758) (survived my torturous install, beast of a board) 1 x EnzoTech EVX-58 Chipset Waterblock 1 x Intel W3520 Xeon (might change to 980X) 3 x Mushkin 4GB Blackline (12GB total) # 998798 (best stuff best support IMO of course) 3 x EVGA GTX 480 HC FTW (killer cards!) 1 x Antec Quattro 1200 RoHS 1200W TruePower Quattro - 80 PLUS (TPQ1200) 23 x Tygon 3603 1/2" ID (3/4" OD) Clear Tubing (TYGON-3603-1/2) 1 x Swiftech APOGEE XT Ultra Extreme Performance Water Block (APOGEE-XT) 2 x Swiftech MCP655 Series 12 VDC Water Pumps (MCP655) (never ever ever run it dry must have constant water intake!) 1 x XSPC Acrylic Dual 5.25 Split Bay Reservoir (XSPC-BR525DSPLT) 16 x Bitspower Premium G1/4" High Flow 1/2" Fitting (BP-WTP-C01) 2 x Bitspower Crystal T-Block - 180 Degree Water Cooling Accessory (BP-TB-CL) 2 x Bitspower Silver Shiny Sealing Plug - 1/2" (BP-WTP-C31) 1 x Akasa SSD Mounting Kit for (2) 2.5" SSD or HDD (AK-MX010) 1 x Danger Den Double Wide Tower - 21 Black Series Edition Phantom - All Clear (DD-DOUBLE-WIDE) 4 x Coolink SWiF 80 mm (802) - UV Blue - Sleeved (SWIF-802) 10 x SilverStone SP-FF121 Fan Filter for 120mm Fans (SST-FF121B) 10 x SCYTHE S-FLEX "F" 120mm 1600 rpm Quiet Fan - Sleeved (SFF21F) 1 x Corsair Airflow 2 GTL Cooling Fan Assembly - Blue (CMXAF2-BL) 1 x Lian Li P-FN04B Six Channel Fan Controller with 24 BLUE Fiber Optic Tubes (PT-FN04) 2 x Logisys 12"-18 LED Super Bright Sunlight Stick- Sleeved - UV (ML12UV) 2 x XSPC RX360 Extreme Performance Radiator (RX360) 1 x XSPC RX480 Extreme Performance Radiator (RX480) 2 x Feser One F1 Cooling Fluid - UV Blue - 1 Liter (FESER1-UVBL) 22 x Stainless Steel Shielded Hose Clamps for 3/4in.OD.Tubing (CLAMP-ST-L) | Updated: removed Lamptron CCFL as it seemed to run hot for some reason and replaced lighting with LED sticks which are very safe (no inverter needed just a male/female passthru molex connector. Added few other items like fan controller and T block with plugs so I can drain loop in future in case of hardware swap.

sledgehammer70 Can't wait to see how this turns out. Thanks to you I was able to distingish from junkie materials and go for the best stuff out there. I researched water cooling "kits" and found a lot of nightmare stories. You were absolutely right about the cost involved in going for high end materials. It took me a week or more to figure out and many times I had myself talked out of water cooling altogether. In fact I was not even going to upgrade at all from my 4Ghz E8400 Dual core but after reading a lot of reviews on X58 platform / Quad core vs Dual core seeing results of SLI with X58 I decided I was just going to deal with finding a way to pay the credit card off AFTER I got everything that would set me up for 2-3 yrs of 60 fps @ 2560x1600 in DX11. This stuff is like any hobby very expensive and depreciates quickly I had a 210G saltwater aquarium I invested $7-8K and sold it all for $2200... Hopefully paying off the CC won't be so painful and extra jobs come my way.

nateman_doo I have never heard of that case, looks like lots of fun!! Looks like you and your camera need to get busy! I read one of your threads, nice to meet you and you are quite extreme by the way! All that super cold stuff lol. Yep I have 8GB memory stick in that camera too bad I have to format the pics to 500kb which is pretty small and I'm still trying to figure out how to convert them to something other than 1280x1024 size. I'm not much of a picture taker / size convertor is there an easy way in Vista to choose a resolution? Right now I just tell it to attach to email to resize to 1280x1024 and save. Yep sounds lame I know. As for that case, I was very surprised not to find references on here or other water cooling / overclocking forums. I could only find a couple reviews on Danger Den's acrylic cases. Original I was going to go for the DD Tower 26 which is a single wide 26" tall that allows 1 Quad rad, but I figured 1 Quad rad was just not going to cut it and I wanted more space for my "stuff" I'll be pretty busy benching X58 + CPU this weekend meanwhile as I am waiting to see stability etc I'll be unpacking things and assembling my first acrylic case. Here's some pictures of that case stock and other's modded versions. http://dangerden.smugmug.com/gallery/9159011_cr89D#681997732_cKqQy

Pentium.. just use MS paint and use the re size option. its much faster than anything else. I just dropped my images to 15% of their size (12MP Camera) and they were perfect.

awesome x 10! I spotted those DD acrylic cases while researching their water blocks a while back. I really like em and they look sweeeeet all lit up. I can't wait to see some finished pics and how you deal with optical drives/hard drives. I think I may have to go with one of those cases, but it will likely be at least summer before I can swing it. Glad to see someone doing this build! Hardware selection speaks for itself...

Oh, my computer is in the laundry room, while its keyboard, mouse and projector are in the club part of the basement. So, I don't really have to consider noise / worrying about it crushing me. And yes, I have it elevated a bit in case of flooding.

damn that sounds like a crazy cool setup, when u think about it like that then all you have to worry about is good airflow, and lighting up whatever room it is in. So what do u do then sit in a chair with a small desk in the center of an empty room with a projector screen on the wall? lmao picturing that seems real lonely, haha

Thank you for pointing that out revised my OP, I forgot that this was an after addition as I hadn't planned to originally cool my chipset / vregs but due to the temps at overclock on the bench (80'C on vregs) I decided to cool them. I decided also to leave the chipset/vreg on the GPU side because GPU temps aren't as sensitive as CPU when you are pushing high CPU overclocks. EnzoTech EVX-58 Chipset Waterblock with review http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=288235&high=EVX-58 BTW I ended up using the "sponge" it is not too thick at all it is the same thickness as the stock cushions that are on the stock HSF assembly. I think the guy reviewing was too afraid to torque down the block. I did however use the original screws with the black feet for the chipset. I did a quickstart test after getting MB installed. It did POST and I checked BIOS but without water running through it got hot fairly quick CPU only got to 39C but NB chip was at 68C so I shutdown. Not 100% sure that my NB is seated perfectly yet but when water check is complete I'll know for certain.

This build looks awesome but why are you using a motherboard with no NF200 chips? That X58 SLI is going to be running the PCIE slots at x8 rather than x16 which will be bottle-necking the 480's. It seems like money isn't a problem for you, how come you didn't go with the X58 4 way classified?

I really like that case... I was never a fan of acrylic but i think it is growing on me... especially now that I see how much benefit a double wide case can really be.

Looking good! Tygon is the best imho but its just a tube in the end and its flexibility and not collapsing that make it really nice.

It seems like money isn't a problem for you, how come you didn't go with the X58 4 way classified? In the end I opted for 480 HC FTW SLI instead of 3 way after considering I'd need to get a 2200VA UPS (1980W) because my 1500VA (980W) wasn't enough for the 1220W that. Most importantly I'd have 2 big 1500VA batteries sitting around with the two other 1500VA older Backup Pros. I'm running out of room for all the used stuff laying around here and it is driving me crazy. So both cards will run 16x in SLI which should be good enough for 90%+ of games out there right now, had I gone for that 3rd card I'd have waited on upgrade next gen but instead I will just go with next gen SLI immediately when they come out. I am done with radiator installs, tubing will be done in a couple hours and then leak testing while I get some sleep, hopefully I won't wake up with any water leaks then I can fire her up and take some final pics of the build.

The 1/2" ID 3/4" OD is very thick so you really have to want to cut it or put a hole in it.
