http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X87O70OChDg If you recall from my previous video, in the last part I showed what my BIOS settings were for a 4.5GHz overclock using my i7-980X Gulftown and EVGA Classified 760. Never settling for the status quo, I decided to do some mucking around and have found providence in a low VCore 4.1GHz overclock which I use primarily now. I'll go step-by-step into my settings and voltages, and also show you what gadgets I have on my Windows 7 desktop. So please enjoy! SirJamesDDJ

Cool deal, bro. Thanks for posting that. I'm going to give it a try even though I'm sitting really pretty at 4.5GHz right now. Idle temps are 32-26-31-22-26-26, so I don't know how much cooler they can get, lol. This 980X just never stops impressing me! EDIT: Okay, so I guess the temps *could* get lower. I just applied your settings, and with an ambient temp of 23C right now, my cores are: 28-22-28-19-23-23 That's pretty amazing at 4.1GHz, good job james!!

I have a very large external cooler with all 1/2" lines and the new Koolance CPU-360 block, which is supposed to outperform the HK 3.0. I don't even have my Shin Etsu TIM applied yet. I went the easy route and used AS5. The Shin Etsu actually shaves of yet another couple degrees, especially load temps. This is the cooler I have, and it rocks: http://www.koolance.com/w...nfo.php?product_id=779

Oh that's right, the TJ Harlow build. In my opinion, this could be a good overclock for everybody's Internet/anything except gaming and video encoding. Keeps the baby cool, and low voltages for a nice long life. Great for possible resale value someday, as well.

sirjamesddj Oh that's right, the TJ Harlow build. Yep, but I have since replaced just about every component in the case, at least twice, lol. Actually, the one item that's still untouched since TJ installed it is the psu. I've had to re-route all the cables though, especially when I added all those SSD's.

I think you would better be better off finding a 6 core HT off template. Just my opinion.

Precisely why I wanted to put something out with a low VCore. BTW, special thanks to iride4u and flamingaxe for their template ideas, and also Governator for pushing me a bit.

sirjames, Using your template as a base, I was able to reduce Vcore to 1.25v and Vtt to +150 and still pass an hour of OCCT Linpack with no problem. I actually got Vcore down to 1.24375, but then 1.2375 produced errors, so I went up to 1.25 to avoid any undervolt issues.

Scratch the lower Vtt. It resulted in a 4 GFlop decrease with IntelBurn, so +175 seems to be the sweet spot, just like you had it.

frujaro I have alittle question, why don´t you active with Vdroop? i see you have without Vdroop, what ´s it better? That's a personal preference, and always comes up once a week or so. VDroop reduces your Vcore as a load is applied to your cpu, so your Vcore setting becomes the max. value that the Vcore can possibly be. Disabling VDroop is just the opposite. Your Vcore setting is the *lowest* value it can possibly be, and when a load is applied to the cpu, Vcore is increased by a little bit. Some people say their system is more stable one way or the other. It really doesn't matter either way, just as long as you compensate for whichever one you choose. In this case, sirjames has his Vcore set to 1.25625 without VDroop. If you decide to keep VDroop enabled, you would need to use a higher Vcore setting to compensate for the "Droop".
