I can imagine there would have to be some kind of profit margin made but damn... that's SERIOUS price gouging :( I'm really disappointed in this. I can buy 2 5870s for the price of one 480! And even a fanboy should admit that would beat a single 480 easily.

Even with warranty worries, it's tempting to just order them from the US :-\ Especially considering the HydroCoppers probably won't come 'down under'.

We have here (Czech Rep.) GTX480 for cca 670 USD incl vat, but there is 3 year warranty so price is adequate with respect to predicted lifetime 2 years.
Do if you have warranty 3 - 4 years price is ok too.

difference in currencies does not account for this gouging, no way no how, i guess it must cost a couple hundred dollars per card  to ship to aussie land, lol

The Aussies amaze me. You guys get screwed in just about every aspect of pc culture and you keep plugging away. You get my respect. If I were ever forced into a situation like what you deal with, I'd probably have a melt down.

And they have only 10% vat, shops are making big money there.
Maybe that is because it is hard to transfer goods there, it must be pirates or so.

Dont quite understand why Duane should cop the flack for pricing RJ. I'm sure he has very little to say about it.

The Fact is that in the USA the OP's linked product 015-P3-1480-AR is $499.99. I have had a heap of stuff shipped (posted) out here and for that size you get insurance and change from $50 USD. So for $550USD you "should" get a delivered product, now my credit card company (bank) at worst for the last 14 days charged me .89CUS for A$1. There fore US$550/.89= A$618.00 now there is a strech to $829 from $618 (close to 1/3).
This is why I buy my stuff from the USA and import it myself. In the case of my 790i it was nothing like worth it with 3 RMA's chewing up my benefits but all the rest of my EVGA imports have saved me heaps....sorry Duane....when these cards settle down I may just get two localy....time will tell.

I've explained this many times but prices in common currency are affected by many factors. Import tariffs, taxes, transportation, and other fees vary from country to country.

Please note that any USA EVGA parts imported from the USA to Australia may not be covered by Australian warranty at this time. In addition if Australian customs should decide to examine an EVGA item imported from the USA they could levy an import and customs tariff against the item.

the customs over here are good personal imports upto the value of $1000.00 is free, i still reakon its just the amount of hands the gear passes throw that increases the cost

    Poor Duane hehe

Was discussing the Aussie pricing at http://i4memory.com/f18/f...enchmarks-fails-22994/ and while I'd like cheaper prices, you guys do need to understand the Australian situation.

It's easy for simple conversion if you individually buy from USA store, but retailers and folks than buy >AUD$1000 value of items will get hit with 10% GST tax for imports and retailers also have staff/store and operating cost overheads. Usually, when I do conversions it would be US$ dollar to AUD$ dollar + 10-15% (inclusive shipping costs + my credit card 2.35% foreign exchange fees) which would be ball park figure for comparing US and Australian costs - for items with higher failure rates I also add in cost to return/rma ship items back to USA.  This would be my criteria for deciding if I should buy locally or direct from USA retailer for items like pc hardware i.e. memory, DSLR photographic gear etc.

So US$499 item with say US$45 USPS EMS shipping costs = US$544 taking into account 2.35% CC fee and US$0.88 exchange rate = ~AUD$633 that's the comparative price in Australia for Nvidia GTX 480. If I need to rma back to USA tack on AUD$65 for USPS EMS postage back = AUD$698.  Still AUD$633 or AUD$698 is more reasonable than AUD$829 but that's for EVGA GTX 480 - while everyone knows EVGA in Australia has a much higher premium asking price than other brands so who knows.

But for larger quantities retailers have to deal with 10% GST is added so AUD$633 + 10% = ~AUD$696 then there's mark up costs for middlemen, distributors, shipping and distribution costs within Australia.

So unless there's an added price break reduction to Aussie disties from supplier, we'd probably need to live with higher prices for now. Not good though in comparison price terms though compared to ATI 58xx series.

For others reading here's Australia GST import policy for items over AUD$1000 in value and when 10% GST is applied When buying over the internet

I'll just throw this out there, being completely serious. If anyone orders one from US and pays for it and stuff, they can send it to me, and I'll send it to them. It'd be a pleasure to help fellow EVGA members escape the insane price gouging.

Of course you would have to test it out first to make sure you aren't shipping them a defective card.

I could if they asked, otherwise I'd left it in the box and not open it.

And here we are again EVGA UPSET customers again and still the promised new changes have yet to be implemented ....

"Yes that's absolutely true.  We are currently working on an EU shopping cart - same will eventually be true of the APAC region"
The above was quoted from Shane if your wondering http://forums.evga.com...p;high=australia  So im left wondering as I have so many months ago? Does EVGA care about Australian customers?? The answer so far is not even in the slightest does it worry you that your double the price and we are still at around 92 cents to the $US dollar.

Prices have dropped to ~750 from a few retailers. Still not ideal, but alot easier to swallow.

    Thank you Duane!

I would prefer the pricing to start at a reasonable price before  too many people buy one. Because internally they will start using the excuse of well "we would not like people who have already bought the product to feel had they have waited a few weeks they would have been charged a reasonable price".
This is also a bad situation you are correct thait "Still not ideal, but alot easier to swallow"
Far from what I would consider to be a fair price $750 but without some measure of understanding from EVGA in relation to this longstanding price descrimination (just because we are not american or european) will do nothing to further their less than stellar product sales or image in Australia. The key to this becoming a realisation is the introduction of an online store and Localised RMA centres located within Australia its very inefficient to have to send all RMA's back overseas Im amazed they think this is feasible in the longterm????
