Hi,

I've got a Zotac 980ti with an EVGA Hybrid cooler added to it. I know. Try getting a Hybrid 980ti on release month in the UK..

The set up works fine 99.9% of the time and decent temps etc and I've got a fairly tasty overclock going on.

The problem, as the title suggests, is that randomly, when I am AFK and the system is idle, lock screen or not logged in/sitting on the desktop the fans randomly speed up and down in 5/10 second intervals and when I look inside of Precision X and Corsair Link both read 92c.
If I restart the system the issue persists, but a shut down and boot from cold seems to banish it, returning nice idle temps of 29c.
This has happened maybe 5 times in the last several months, over various builds of Windows 10 and multiple GPU drivers from Nvidia..

SO, potential causes? I think it's a software bug. I don't want to think that it's a faulty hardware issue as it's so intermittent and is easily resolved by cold booting. I am flapping however, warranty concerns and what not.

Some other info that might be useful.
5820k @ 4.4 on water

MSI x99 Krait Edition
Corsair Hx850 Psu.

Background/launch apps; McAfee, Corsair Link, Precision X, Steam, Origin, Curse, Skype, Adobe CC, Autodesk Application Manager and Google Drive.
None of which will likely be the cause If the system hasn't been logged in, I assume.

My current machine.

Since the temperature sensor is on the GPU and not the Hybrid cooler, it very well might be the GPU flaking out.

I ran my 980 Ti Classified (stepped up to 1080 ACX) as well as my 980 Ti G1 Gaming card with a two different AIO coolers (H55 and X41) and never had that issue.

Depending on what driver you are using, it might also be a driver issue. The last truly bug free driver (for me) that Nvidia released was the 373.06 driver. You might want to try using DDU in safe mode and then installing them to see. You can find them in the Beta and Older driver list - http://www.nvidia.com/Dow.oad/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Was the hybrid pump still running when this was occurring?
