Hi everyone, is it normal for my 1070FTW, that GPU clock goes up, over boost clock of 1797, even up to 2012MHz? I didn't touch anything, just installed Precision XOC and activated OSD. Any tips? I'm quite worried that this too-high clock can ruin my GPU. I attached a screen-caputered image during The Witcher3.

Oh ok, nevermind :) thx for help ;) Anyway, why does the clock go so high? Standard clocks are 1607/1797MHz, it's quite strange

The reason it goes so high is because gpu boost 3.0 is dynamically controlling the clocks.

Ah ok, i didn't know that boost 3.0 can overclock the GPU over the standard clocks :) Thank you very much for your help ;)

the speced clocks like from here are the guaranteed min you can expect if your card does better then great its nothing but a plus ftw gaming - 1607MHz Base Clock
- 1797MHz Boost Clock
= the min evga guarantees this card will do anything you get stock out of the box over that is nothing but gravy [best I understand that ] enjoy

It seems to be a lucky card but what could i do if i want to play without any overclock and just stay in the range 1607/1797? Because i understand that boost3.0 dinamically adjusts my clock, but i don't want an overclock on my card for now. Also, i watched some gameplay videos with the same card and the clock doesn't change. It's very strange for me and it seems like the card just do it by itself.

If you don't want a dynamically clocking card then I suggest going out and purchasing an AMD card or a GTX 400 series card. Or you can always return the FTW and get a base model (non-factory overclocked card), which you can then select Debug mode from the nvidia control panel which will keep the card from boosting the GPU clock past "stock" speeds. I don't think that factory overclocked cards have that option, as it is grayed out. But why would you do that? There is no point as GPU boost (automatic dynamic overclocking) has been a thing with nvidia cards for a long time now. It does not reduce GPU lifespan, and you went with EVGA (I assume) to get the best warranty and customer service possible from a GPU vendor in case there are any issues.

I guess you one of the few that don't want the best there card can offer ? with nvida gpu boost /boost 2 and boost 3 [that's used on your pascal] is normal operation. just some cards can do better then others under the ''luck of the draw'' scheme of things . weather it does the min speced clock or well above your card should lead a normal happy life all its doing is auto adjusting the card to needed performance with in a tolerance ,bios set [voltage/ temps/ load] . just hard to understand to complain about getting a better card then expected out of the box ?? run it , enjoy it try to find and read articles on gpu boost 3 http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/05/17/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1080_founders_edition_review/5#.WDWd3bfnaHs good luck

Ok, the auto-overclock is not that bad, the thing is that the overclock push the card over the limit of 1797, even 2012MHz and also the voltage goes up. I like the boost3.0 that gives the best clock possible, but it shouldn't go over my boost clock. Why I can't control the overclock? Is just my card?
Anyway thanks for help :) now I'm quite more relaxed :P

That is how the cards works. EVGA guarantees you 1797MHz. GPU Boost 3.0 WILL make it go above your MINIMUM boost clock which is 1797Mhz. You are not able to control the boost clock.

dude , its fine luck of the draw was on your side just think how many guys got that same card and don't even get close to what yours can do stock out of the box .. like said you well above the min spec of that line of card that's nothing but a plus and what we hope for in any card we buy . not the lowest of the bunch you did well on a card it works as it should normal [well better] , you sure don't look to get a ftw and only at best get that min or it runs only at say a lesser models specs like a plain jane 1070 gaming ??? your cards fine you got better then average or at least better then spec. that's what we want and hope for in any card ''the thing is that the overclock push the card over the limit of 1797, even 2012MHz and also the voltage goes up'' who don't want that ??? and then it takes power to make power that's physics and life with any card ypu got to have the voltage to maintain the clocks stable as possible. all card have a thermal and power/voltage limit then throttling sets in '' Since the introduction of Kepler, NVIDIA has introduced fine-grained voltage points, which defines a series of GPU voltages and their respective clockspeeds. The GPU in turn operates at points along the resulting curve, shifting clockspeeds based on which voltage it’s at and what the environmental conditions are.'' http://www.anandtech.com/show/10325/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-and-1070-founders-edition-review/15

Since you own a factory overclocked card you should be able to enable debug mode inside the nvidia control panel which will help get it closer to reference speeds. If the card is still running over 1607/1797 while in debug mode you can then use msi afterburner to underclock the card to your desired speeds.
