Hi,

I am new to pc gaming and I have just built my pc. It is based around a i7 6700 and evga 1080 founders edition.

I have been reading loads of forums and I cant seem to get a direct answer. Should I be running Direct X 11 or 12?

Many thanks in advance.

My personal opinion, stick with DX11. I would personally avoid DX12 all together. Ignore the hype - DX12 is broke (since day 1). DX11 is where it's still at.

If your game supports DX12 mode and you are getting fps drops in that game (also known as stuttering) then DX12 might help smooth out gameplay. However, DX12 is still a new API and tends to have lower average FPS than the same game running in DX11. So, DX11 is still a very safe bet since it is a much more mature (and well known by game developers) API.
