Summer paralympics Challenge Sep 2 18:00:00 to Sep 7 18:00:00 (UTC)  This is number 6 in the 2016 series
From September 2nd 18:00:00 UTC until September 7th 18:00:00 UTC we will have a 5 day challenge running the Extended Sierpinski Problem LLR project.
http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=6958

These are LLR work units so it is better to have Hyper Thread off.
Systems with AVX (Sandy Bridge or later) run faster, but any and all WUs count. I will be running some x5660 with out AVX
For a better chance to be founder of a prime number, under options have your store at least WUs set to 0.01 and an additional 0.00
So you do finish WU, upload it and get another with out them sitting on your drive for a long time waiting to be completed.

We need all the help we can get if we want to come in 5th place.

Life is too short to carry a cheap pocket knife.

Correct.  Only tasks downloaded after the start of the contest will be counted.

Bill, does this assure us of no extra wu's in the cache?
At this point it looks like I'll have to start 6 hours early or 4 hours late so if I can keep my cache low or empty I'd opt for starting early.
Does anyone know how long they take on Sandy Br.?

It does keep the cashe to a minimum, one short WUs it will down load new WUs at around 85-90%
At least it does when I check up on it. Open it at 85 and it starts to DL on its own. What it would of done if I did not chk it I do not know for sure.

As far at time on the challenge WU, my xeon e5-1650 hexcore is around 15 hours, my i7-3939k pretty much the same chip, WUs taking a little longer.  42.5% 6.25 hours
I have it 100mhz slower and it is in dual channel memory, my xeon has quad channel memory. And only 5 WUs running out of six cores.

Have to RMA a couple sticks of ram is why. I do have two larger sticks, 8gb each, same make, speed and model number.
I may mix them and see what happens, if I can get quad channel for the first 16gb and have dual for the extra 8gb
I know my Asus x58 says it would work that way.

Okay, thanks for the info. I didn't realize they took that long so I'll probably be better off starting late. I can test them after Seti wow.

That is with HT off!! Long Wus for sure. On my e5-1650 ( i7-3930k) hexcore 15 hours HT off AVX really helps.
I did read over at the PG forum many are leaving a CPU idle 5 of 6 cores running, I guess it helps with speed.
Not sure if it is enough to make up for the lost WU or not.
I suppose on my dual socket systems I will leave a core free. Dual rank memory and memory speed are important to the run time too.
I know my servers all ahve dual rank memory. Not sure what Gskill Sniper is, single or dual rank.
I put in a question to their cust support, waiting for a reply.

Then my i7-3930K and i7-3970X should run well then.
Not sure yet whether or not I will run them on my i7-5960X.
I know I am not going to run my 4P or 2P anymore so time to give them a resting home.

I think I will run a cycle on one of my 4P it's in the basement so heat is not a problem.
Its nice to carpet bomb all those Wus at once when they are done.

ll be running them this Winter doing WCG for sure. They are just as good at WCG as my intel are.
Maybe a little slower wu to wu but the amount being done is so much more. 48 vs 6 or 12 with HT.
Not sure why the font changed either mmm oh well

I feel safe running 3 threads each on my 3 SB rigs for a total of 9 while I go away for the weekend. I can add more when  get back on Labor Day. I'll prolly start an hour or 2 late too.
Good luck to all and hope robby is riding out the storm and can join us, but be safe first bro.

I tried a couple of wus just to check if everything was all right on my rigs, the i5-6600k did a wu in 8h20m, the 3570k worked for more than 15 hours, the PII x3 720 said "no thanks" and crushed. Anyway, this will be hard, it's really hot here and I don't have A/C!

Reduce your CPU Overclock and do not Fold or Crunch on the GPU and you should run 3 Cores fine on Each CPU and with little heat.

Oh no no no no. Every single core counts.
I have more but I am not going to go all in, sorry, just to warm here still.
No AMD and a couple dual Intell have to sit this one out.

Plus you have nice shiny new CPUs that kick butt.

My i5 seems to be tracking at 17hrs per unit. Dedicating 2 cores to this one. Need the other 2 for folding and gaming.

You may crash and burn if you try gaming while running PG LLRs
And you are sure to crash if you are also Folding Full on your GPUs.

So, do I pause crunching while gaming? I usually Pause the Folding while gaming. Moat of my games aren't multithreaded anyway.
