I kind of took the whole "Freezer trick" and took it up a notch, unfortunately, the connections came loose somewhere along the way and it wasnt getting power when I tried it. Im not sure if I wanted it to get power though, it was pretty wet when I took it out, not sure how much the hot water bath I gave it to thaw factored in to this though. http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1368.jpg I used 5 ziploc bags, so the water wasnt contacting the HDD directly. http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1370.jpg http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1372.jpg Yeah, its soldid as an Ice cube, I left it in the freezer for over 12 hours... Yep, the HDD is still in there, not sure why the pic got flipped though. http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1373.jpg The problem http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1375.jpg http://i175.photobucket.c...udster816/IMG_1376.jpg Yeah, its still pretty wet. Gonna let it dry over the weekend before sending it in to Seagate for an RMA!

What exactly is the rationale behind putting the HDD in WATER and then freezing it?

It was a 7200.11 and I got the "Click....Click....Click...." when it first got power, than it would spin down. After awhile it would be detected in Windows, but since the platters wernt spinning, I couldnt read anything off of it. I just plugged it in, and its acting like its not getting power at all....guess I broke it even more. Even if Seagate doesn do the RMA....not like I have any data to store on it anymore......thats all gone.....

If you value your data, you can have it sent out to a data recovery center. I've seen price ranges from $150 to Several Thousand. Samething happend to me. No recovery. =\ Though I can't afford that. I learned my lesson the hard way. I have one storage drive, a backup for the storage drive, and a backup for the backup. Though I don't know if it's true but for a good laugh, somebody at work mentioned mineral water. (who knows... )

you could freeze it in mineral oil non conductive also try using disk commander to recover the data it could be that windows thinks there is something wrong with it but there are other programs that can fix it. http://www.hirensbootcd.net/

on big diffrence between what you did and the guy ont he webisght did..... There was no ice or water in the bag. my take is he did that to help prevent condisation forming on the hdd.
Signature Images.. What are those.. and can I eat it?

condensation didn't start forming until he started thawing out the bag.... best bet would have been to crack the ice while solid. then get the drive out and let it warm up..... i already made this mistake with a dice pot.

NovaKitFox on big diffrence between what you did and the guy ont he webisght did..... There was no ice or water in the bag. my take is he did that to help prevent condisation forming on the hdd. Obviously, but had it worked, I had about ~600GB of room on my 1TB drive that I could have backed stuff up on to, and that would have taken awhile, so the ice was meant to keep it cold longer had it worked. John, one guy on youtube cracked open the drive, and when the platters stopped moving, he gave them a "nudge" and the spun up, the drive worked for ~90min there after before dying, he should have replaced the cover afterwards to keep it clean though, I dont think he did. I would have done this, but im not willing to void my warranty.
