Very blue, very nice. Better then having them put away colleting dust, now they can collect dust inside your case! :D

Very nice!! I did a few builds like that on the old forums as well... Makes a big difference for the case airflow for sure!

i had an extra 120mm fan laying around, 3 empty 5.25" bays, and some styrofoam. i cut the styrofoam to match the exact shape of the fan, and cut the outside to fit right in the open drive bays. worked pretty well. no pics of it tho sorry.

You got a benchmark showing any temperatur difference with and without the fans? It looks like a good idea..

A suggestion: Use RTV Silicon to mount them, or at least put a bead in between them and where they're being mounted. It's basically a tube of liquid silicone that's used for making gaskets for cars. Buy a tube for cheap at any car parts store. Put a narrow bead down like super glue, and either use it to mount them directly (let it set a couple of hours) or use it as a layer between the fans and the surface. (Do NOT let it come in contact with electronics themselves, the acids in it aren't nice to them.) This will let you reduce the vibration you're prone to getting if you just zip-tie the fans in place. You can also use it between fans and a case in general when you use screws or any other mounting method. Cheaper than the silicone mounts (by a lot), easy to use, and very effective for cutting out vibration noise. Oh, it's also incredibly heat resistant, that whole automotive gasket thing. It's entirely capable of surviving in contact with a heatsink.

JingleHell A suggestion: Use RTV Silicon to mount them Will the RTV actually hold them in place? Ive used rtv on fittings for a dishwasher and etc. but only on something that is hard fastened in as well. I would like to give this a try on my case but am a bit hesitant because of the possible mess. Does it bond with the fan plastic at all, or is it still easy to clean to up? Ive used it on different applications that have caused a bit of a mess. Also, any idea if it eats away at acrylic?

Ive used it on different applications that have caused a bit of a mess. Also, any idea if it eats away at acrylic? I've used RTV to put fans in spots in my Lanboy Air that don't have fan mounts. If you're familiar with the layout of the case, I've stuck fans to the plastic on the bottom third of the side panel with it to cool my second GPU. It can be a tad messy if you aren't careful, but you can use a modelling knife to clean it up, I did that when a bit of excess was hitting a fan blade. Basically, you just have to keep it horizontal for ~2hours to let the RTV set, and it will hold the weight of a fan fine. Best way I've found is a bit between the 2 surfaces, attach them, then use the nozzle to squirt a bit more into the fan screw holes, then flatten the RTV across the other side of the screw holes. Essentially makes a silicone rivet. As for eating acrylic, I'm not entirely sure what happens if you remove it after using it on it, but I've got it dampening vibration on a replacement fan on my wife's PC's window, and it didn't melt a hole through it or anything. I'd expect some scuffing of the surface though, if you cleaned it off later. Mind you, I'm only 100% sure it works for mounting them flat. If you wanted to mount perpindicular, the weight might be too much for the silicon alone.

Nice, simple, and innovative. I have a few spare ones lying around, maybe I need to find my zip ties now...
