Hello everyone.

My power supply from enermax 700 watt is currently damaged and i cant use it anymore. i can still use warranty service.
Until i get a new power supply i still want to use my computer to play a few games (Counterstrike - Go, Dota2 , Trials Fusion)

I still have another power supply with only 500 watts - which isnt enough to run my setup (i7 2600k, EVGA GTX 580 SC, 7200RPM HDD, Mouse+Keyboard).
Is it save to reduce Voltage and MHZ to be able to run my system and is it even possible?
I think i need to reduce the watt usage by around 50Watt (maybe even more) but how can i do this? just lower voltage and MHZ?

I dont care if i lose 10/15/20 maybe 25% performance - because i only need to play those games i already mentioned and those would even run perfectly on an old gtx 460

I hope someone can help me.

Edit: My power supply only has 2 6pin cables for the gpu (at the momment im using a selfmade modified cable which supplys it with the needed 6+2pin cable)
Would it be usefull to reduce RAM to 4gig?

Edit3: Sry for bad english, its not my native language - but i try to be understandable

Welcome to the EVGA forums

This is all a -VERY- bad idea
Your just asking to lose your videocard, or CPU or MB.... ect
Really, a self made modded cable?

If you dont have the funds to get a replacement and have to wait for your RMA... YOU HAVE TO WAIT.
*what good is a new powersupply going to do for you, if you have blown up everything and have nothing to power?

Unplug and go see a movie, mow your moms lawn, go see some friends... do something else, until you have the correct powersupply.

Your risking--> having no videocard, no CPU, no MB
Thats NOT a risk worth taking

What is the model of the 500 watt PSU you intend to use? If it is a quality unit, you might be able to use it short term with your CPU at stock clocks. You can use EVGA Precision (or MSI Afterburner) to lower the core clocks on the GPU. I'd also suggest using vsync as that will lower power consumption by limiting the frame rates. This isn't really a good idea but since you seem intent on doing it, someone should at least tell you how to somewhat mitigate the risk.

it is an old enermax 80+

when i lower core clocks can i also dump down the voltage?
vsync sounds nice - didnt think of it before ty

I gave this a try, apparently you can lower your voltage down to the idle voltage of your card, at least my 580 will allow 0.963V.  But that might depend on what BIOS you have.  I can adjust my clocks all the way down to 405/810 as well.  (Use afterburner or precision).  But I'd just do what Heavy said; vsync will lower the average power.

If your computer powers off even once, I'd limit your computer use to just emails and web surfing at that point.  Hopefully your 500W power supply really is 500W; you should be just under the limit.

You can also downclock on your cpu to save power
