One of my AMD rigs is encountering BSOD's in BF4 (and occasionally random).  Rig seems to operate just fine under idle conditions.  Have tested the computer with Heaven and Vally benchmarks...no crash, no BSOD.  I know that BF4 is essentially a broken product.  But, this seems to lean towards some sort of hardware issue(s).

AMD P2 940 (3.0 GHz)
Asus Crosshair II Formula
Corsair TX 750 watt PSU
4 gigs of OCZ Reaper Ram @ 800 MHz
50 gig OCZ Vertex SSD (OS)
500 gig WD Blue (storage)
2x EVGA GTX 560 SC 1024 meg
X-FI Xtreme Music
Zalman CPNS9500A
Cooler Master CM 690 ( 5 -120mm fans)

I have been racking my brain here to try and figure out what the source of this rigs BSOD's are.  I'm not convinced that it is the cards causing them.  But, they are part of the system and I'm looking at them as a suspect.  I'm at the end of my rope as far as a solution.  I have read elsewhere that the 560's may of had a bios update, but cannot find any evidence of that this on EVGA's website.  Or elsewhere...Read on some of MS forums that BSOD were common place until a bios flash was done.

I'm leaning towards some sort of a overheating issue.  Northbridge or the Vregs.  The Vregs heatsink is hot to the touch.  The CPU isn't OC'd and no voltage changes where made.

So, I'm what I'm wondering here (and looking for some sort input from the EVGA community), could it be some sort of setting that I have missed in bios as relating to PCI-e voltages?  What are the required voltages for the GTX 560 SC?  It is running on stock settings now (1.2v is lowest it will go).  The Crosshair II Formula is the tweakers dream/nightmare.   So, I'm wondering if I could of over looked something.  Or if the mobo is just a bad design and in need of upgrade.

Any insight or opinions are welcome.

Thanks in advance for looking!

    What error number(s) are showing?
    ---------------------

For BF4 that CPU and only 1gig of vram...
-->requires a very detailed setup in the in-game video options AND a very clean browser

Please post your OS version, monitor setup details and what browser you are using

Ok, just need to know what Browser you are using AND that you only have one monitor attached....

No wonder your BSOD in BF4
    -------------

What Nvidia driver version do you currently have installed?
Is this a manual install (custom/clean) or do you have the GFE (Geforce Experience) installed?
    -----------------

You BSOD is being caused by the lack of VRAM -and- using only 4gigs of system ram
Your cards are attempting to extend into system ram and as soon as it runs out or conflicts... BSOD

    The fix is easy
-->trim everything possible in the startup to get more system RAM available
-->choose the correct in-game settings for your Vram in BF4
-->setup your browser to use the very least of Vram possible

    No more BSOD

It varies.  Some atikmpag.sys errors.  I don't have the BSOD crash reports here in front of me (at work).

For BF4... x2 560's exceed min. spec.  everything set to med settings (50+ fps) and clean browser (if by clean you mean cookies removed and blah, blah, blah).  As far as CPU goes...I know plenty of players who are running a lesser CPU than the 940 and they aren't experiencing BSOD's.  My second rig in my sig runs BF4 @ high settings with acceptable framerates.  The system in question isn't that dissimilar.

Win7 x64 SP1 (all updates), Viewsonic VX2235WM, Firefox latest version ( I believe...I will have to check), Nvidia Beta drivers (337.50).

I am the expert around here for BF4

At 1680x1050 your CPU bound and 4gigs system ram could be a issue depending on what you have loading at boot.

As for using Firefox and your desktop Vram loading, normal for that setup at defauts is appox 150-200mb of Vram used
That leaves you with about 800mb of Vram for the game....

Your x58 is nothing like a 780a MB... not even close
    ----------------------------------

BF4 is not broken, users reporting problems are always facing config/drivers/settings based problems not the game itself.
    ---------------------------------

If you want BF4 to run without issue, you will need to address your config/driver/settings problems and most likely use another browser to launch Battlelog.

Only one monitor is attached now.  He had two at one time and started to encounter BSOD's.  Told him to get rid of it.  He was already dangerously close to the edge of vRAM limits.  He did.  But, the BSOD's are continuing.

Yes, I was figuring more system RAM was at the core of it.  It isn't my system anymore (sold to brother who is on a budget).  But, it makes sense.  Most likely explains why the NB is getting hot with the lack of VRAM.  But, my second rig in sig has only 1280 vRAM and has zero issues.

    No Geforce experience is running.

I suggested picking up another 4 gigs when this first started.  Now, you have confirmed my suspicions.
I think the real fix is adding more RAM.  Needs to have 8 gigs here.

Thanks for the suggestions.  We will give them a shot.

atikmpag.sys should NOT be on the system as that is a ATI video driver component
*While more system RAM would be nice, its doubtful that it will stop the BSOD

I would work on cleaning out the ATI leftovers and then get in-game settings and browser tuned up for Vram and the OS launch condition tight.
You really should get it working correctly first, as just putting in RAM is unlikely to stop the problems just by itself.

My LOLOL comment was based on seeing the monitor/OS details right above where I was asking about them

Expert huh? Great  I need one ;)  Do you have a thread or site or something I can direct him too?  For proper settings?  He's not really listening to me.  He is convinced his rig is overheating.  But, I think if he could see something it might help out tremendously.

BF4 was broken.  It's not anymore.  I never experienced any real issues with the game.  Other than the occasional crash to desk top.  I do know plenty of others who have.  I would however completely agree with you that now 99.9% of issues surrounding BF4 are config issues.  It's just easier to blame the game.

Trust me I know my x58 is nothing like the 780a.  I was referring to my 980a AMD rig in my signature.

I really appreciate your insight here maniacvvv.  Your expertise in this matter is very helpful.

Yea, that's alright.  I missed a ton of info in the time I was typing out a response.

    No worries...

That atikmpag.sys was one of the ones I remembered seeing in crash reports.  There were so many differing reports I had trouble remembering them all.  There are no ATI components in the system.  Might of been an error in the reporting tool.  I don't know.  I will get with him and he can relay the info on the BSOD's and you can take a look at them.

I agree with your input though.  vRAM and RAM issues are most likely the culprits.
