I currently have a asus p8p67 revolution motherboard and my pcie slots are failing so I need to swap out motherboards , that mobo is no longer available so I purchased an asus p8p67 pro to replace it. Can i do a swap (keeping everything else the same ) and not need a fresh windows install? Can i save all my current harddrive files and info?

You should be able to plug in the drives, set your BIOS to AHCI unless it was running in IDE mode on the old motherboard and boot right up. You will have to re-activate Windows which isn't a big ordeal if you use the phone method. I have been running this same install since my P67 board and then two different Z77 boards.

Grab another Intel chipset and you should be fine.

Grab another Intel chipset and you should be fine.
I would recommend a Z77 but he already purchased another P67. IDK.

You will be fine as long as your going from an intel board to an intel board nine times out of ten you will be fine, only time I have seen issues is when board to board have like the via chip vs whatever else your switching from or to. But have not ran into that issue in a long time. Also if your hard drives are setup for IDE or ACHI when you formatted them and installed windows make sure the new board is set to the same settings. as the previous board or you will probably run into some issues...

i went for that board because I got it for like 55.00.....I dont want to put any more money into this configuration ...waiting for the next intriguing intel board/chipset combo and 8 series videocards

Me too. I'm waiting to see what the Z97 motherboards have to offer. The P67 was, and still is, a capable board. I really liked my Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 but I dropped the socket cover and bent some pins. Now it sits in a box collecting dust. Not worth fixing. Your new motherboard should boot right up with the same drives. You'll just need to re-activate Windows.

It is *always* a good idea to back up your data before doing anything like that. Should it work? Sure. Is it 100% guaranteed? Nothing is 100% guaranteed when it comes to computers.

I always like doing a clean install when changing either the Motherboard, or Hard Drive. Gives me peace of mind that it will have less issues, if any at all.
