Ok so i'm tring to get the avx-llp app working on my 2600k sandy bridge. I understand that it will help a little or a lot on the primegrid challenge so i wanted to get it working. I have the WCG version of Bionic on that machine and have downloaded and renamed the files accordinly <i belive> The instructions tell me to place them in the approiate bionic folder but don't specify the folder haha. anyone hashed this out before and can give me some pointers? Does it have to be run in a terminal window or under a different virsion of bionic. Or is it even worth the effort i'm putting in to it. I'm going fishin down at BigShell this weekend so i likely will only have another day to mess with it before i blast of to go get sunburnt. ty for any suggestions.

The location depends on the particular OS you are using and on where you installed BOINC if you overrode the defaults.  On Windows 7, the data files by default go to c:\ProgramData\BOINC.  Then, under that directory, there is a folder named "projects" which holds the project-specific stuff.  Under that, in the directory www.primegrid.com, will be the executables, like primegrid_cllr64_3.8.13_windows_x86_64.exe.
So, the full path on my system is C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.primegrid.com

Odds are you may have to change one of the config files (probably app_info.xml) to point to the new executable, but I haven't gone searching for the instructions you are working from.  Then you would just need to shut down BOINC manager and restart for the new version to be used.  If you are using app_info, any WU that is in progress will be lost, so you need to make sure everything is completed before switching.

Edit: looks like you will need to create the file app_info.xml in your ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.primegrid.com directory.
The contents of the file can be found here or copied from below (this one is for Windows).  Then make sure the executable file name matches the one you are replacing.  You will lose all WU's that are in progress when making this change.

You should not be seeing anything GFN or genefer. That's the wrong project. Go to your PrimeGrid account page and double check your PrimeGrid preferences. Let us know if you need help.

When the project is running it should be "PPS (LLR) v6.24" in the application column. You don't need to do anything special for Sandy Bridge.

I think (this is a moderately wild guess) that if a custom app_info refers to an executable that isn't in the project's local directory, it will try to download it whether it needs it or not.  Clayton, did you successfully connect to PrimeGrid and run any work before you tried to change to the newer LLR binary?

yeah, i have run some work for the pps before, i think i was close to having it working just ran outta time to mess with it anymore. i reset it to work like normal outta the box. I had read on primegrids website that the sandybridge running the latest avx app would yeild the fastest times so i was hoping i could figure it out before i left. thank you all very much for ya time. I'm maybe not understanding everything right. At one point today i had it downloading wus that had the aplication name avx2 llp but maybe i was forcing it to do something that was not intended :)

i'm sorry for ya time if its something thats built in already and wasting ya time

Hey my time is your time, so ask anything if you think it needs asking.

Originally, this is where I was coming from:

    PG Forums:
    "Just to be clear...

If I see "PPS (LLR) v6.24" as the version, I'm running the latest AVX build?

    thanks."

    Yes.  <<<<<<<<<<<

Then I saw this from PG Notices:

So I guess what I've been testing is not the right thing. If he's going to release them on the morning of the contest, so be it. We'll be all right.
