Depends on what they will use it for. It's good for almost everything, just as long as they are careful plugging in the USB cable, which is where it's weak. The front facing speakers make it great for watching videos, the streaming music playing (when the screen is off) seems somewhat buggy.

It's cheaply made and buggier than an ant hill.
You'd be better off giving the kids a fork and an electric socket to play with.

Young kids- no, older kids that aren't techno savy-no, techno savy older kids-maybe.
My 15yr old with Alienware equipment and more knowledge about current state of pc gaming than I was due to get mine but the usb port is so suspect I'm afraid he might make the unit unusable just by plugging it in to charge.

Definitely not for young kids to play with. Its just not built sturdily enough. If you're going to just let them watch movies/play games on it under supervision, that would be fine. But as others have said, there are many issues with the device, particularly the flimsy USB port, which make it unsuitable as a kid-friendly tablet.

The Tegra (4) Note 7 LTE and Tegra (K1) Note 7 prototype shown at Mobile World Congress 2014 both had a sturdier, but heavier case. I haven't heard anything about a stronger USB port though.

Interestingly enough, there is a version for kids. The new Nabi DreamTab.  It is 8 inches and the interesting thing is the specs.  Tegra 4, 2gb RAM, 1920 x1200 display with stylus. $270 at Target, Walmart, etc.  DreamWorks animated characters are in the theme.
