All right, my base is doing this wonderful upgrade to a lot of our hardware... As such, there are some servers that are going to go to DRMS/gonna get auctioned off. The issue with this is that I do NOT want to pay for an entire PALLET of servers. I was told there was some AF Form out there that can be filled out and once filled out, you can practically take the server from the base free and clear once it has been sanitized. Do any of you Air Force guys know the form that I need to do this? These servers have Dual quad core Xeons with 8-16GB of memory and GTX 460s i believe sooo it'd be quite the waste for them to just get purchased by some noobs.

Any help would be appreciated!

I use to know the form number but I'm sure it has changed over the many years since I've retired. However the Air Force needs to recoup any money in this day and age. I recommend you contact DRMS directly and see if they can provide purchase directly and thereby save transport fees. If there is no such paperwork anymore or DRMS doesn't want to do that annotate this on an Air Force suggestion form and submit it. The basis of your submittal would be that a local purchase/local auction would save the government money for transportation costs of very heavy old PC equipment.

When I was in the AF, they would have open auctions on certain days of the month where they would allow the general public to come in and purchase what they wanted including individual items.  You may ask about that.

No need to thank! I do it because I want to, not for the recognition per se... as do many other members! :)

I talked to the local office and for lack of a better term, she was being very "difficult" she said that I can't do that and that they get shipped to Minot AFB, ND and then probably destroyed. I know this is a lie because we have a few people first hand that have acquired things for free or cheap solely based on hardware upgrades.

I'm still looking into this to see what I can find. Also posted a thread on www.commguys.net (it's a website for Air Force Comm guys) and seeing if anyone can directly link me to a publication. If anyone finds anything let me know, otherwise I will post back if/when I can find something. There's like 39 of these things going out the door.

THESE are the specs of the workstations. Precision R5400.

*Edit* I misspoke in my original posts. These are dual core Xeons. I had been looking at a different enclave that we have in racks right next to these. I believe these workstations have beefed up memory still and definitely do have the GTX 460s in them.
