Interesting - how did MSI get greenlit to make a product for another product that is not allowed nor warrantied ??
That isn't how it works. A third party can do what they like to get sales as long as they support and warranty their products. For instance, nVidia doesn't support overclocking (evident by their OEM versions), but EVGA does (evident only in retail). Intel also doesn't support overclocking, again in OEM, but retail mobo's have the capability and they cover their own boards. But of course, Intel doesn't cover delidding in their warranty or performance tuning plan.
Note: The purpose of Intel's unlocked models is
marketing, it has nothing to do with actually supporting overclocking. It only means they can charge a premium for those that want unlocked since they can't promise how far it can go. Sadly, the use of the crappy TIM is blatant evidence that we shouldn't have to delid if Intel truly binned them for overclocking by putting proper TIM in place. Apply Occam's Razor: Intel doesn't bin mainstream. Those that feel the need to delid, MSI is filling the niche.
Although, since we're talking abut Devil's Canyon and Intel's claim of better TIM, one has to wonder what MSI already knows to put delid support on Z97, that perhaps the better TIM is going by Intel's standards and not ours-- and again, they are offering to fill the niche.
