At this time, I do not have a way to test out the temperatures, as my case is too small to install everything.  The new case will be here soon, hopefully.

Second note, installing the EVGA back-plate does work, but the M3x6 screws that secure the back-plate to the waterblock on grab in for about a turn and a quarter. The head of the screw is also larger than the screw hole for the back-plate, so the head of the screw will not be flush.  Also, if you can only find silver screws, an issue I have, they will not blend in at all. Lastly, out of the 11 screw holes on the EVGA back-plate, only 5 are utilized with the EKWB waterblock.  It does feel very secure either way.

It only took me about 1/2 an hour to install everything, as I have never done this before.  I know a lot of suggestions come out for the way to apply the thermal paste, but I followed EK's method of the star pattern, as I seriously followed the instructions directly.

Attaching a few pictures.  I found a lot of thermal paste under the ACX cooler..  kind of Globbed on there like most others are reporting.

Interesting :) So what screws did u have to use to get it mounted together? Did u just use those who came with EK Waterblock?
Please post some more pictures :)

No,  they are M3x6 screws that you can order from Lowe's or anywhere like that.   I am going to see if I can find some with either a slightly smaller head,  or ever so slightly longer, just so it can grab a little more threading.

EK does supply plastic washers,  that are meant to help prevent scratching the PCB.   If the are between the backplate and the PCB, the screws won't reach the waterblock.  That is why I am hoping to find slightly longer screws.

5 per card total.   If you can order from Amazon,  they are all over it.   I am going to try a different screw head,
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037YC982/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I want to see if those can dig in a little deeper.

The EK Block takes 10 total screws.   5 do not attach to the backplate at all,  and they are installed prior to installing backplate.   The other 5 (listed above)  are the ones you need to secure the backplate to the block :-)

I will be updating this,  if I remember,  once the new screws arrive. I am hoping people with this question will look here.   I am tempted to order the EK backplate,  just because it has the matching 5 screw holes with a bunch of empty one left over.

I put the EVGA backplate on before I got the EK waterblocks, and longer screws were provided with the backplate. Are you saying those are not long enough once I put the EK waterblock on?

No,  they are long enough,  but they are too thin.   They are around an M2 size.

Between the two, the EVGA backplate looks MUCH nicer in my opinion.   Since the backplate is more for aesthetics anyway (I seriously doubt either provides any real cooling advantages over the other, I plan on sticking with EVGA's backplate.

    Here are mine:

Let us know how the Hex M3X6 screws work out.  The fact that the heads are tapered underneath (rather than pan heads) should help them dig a bit deeper and grab a bit more of the EK block's threads.

    4790K / 32GB G.Skill Trident X DDR3 / ASUS Z97-A / Titan X (Pascal) / Samsung 850 Pro / Corsair 800D / Rift + Touch / Vive / and just a wee bit of water cooling...

I definitely love the aesthetic of the EVGA backplate, and will update as soon as they get here.

The only reason I like the idea of the EK plate is that it doesn't have excess holes that aren't used. I may see if I can find a few of the plastic caps that block them, just to hide them, but I have no idea where to get them yet. Will keep looking.

I am heading back to my room, I will get pictures of the three current screws that I have. That would be stock screws, the backplate supplied screws and the necessary screws to install the backplate with the Waterblock.

Far left, M3x6 that I bought.  Mid Left the one from EK.  Mid right, EVGA Backplate screw.  Far right, EVGA Stock Screw.

Any more questions, left me know.  Sorry for the crappy picture, but I am tired and it is late.

    P.S.  New Pictures up top!

I think the EVGA backplate looks good when paired with the stock air cooler, but with the blocks the EK backplate just gives it a cleaner look.

*UPDATE*  just received the M3x6 screws the we're ordered.   They have a counter sunk style head...  They are a definite no go.   Their total length isn't long enough to even reach the threading on the waterblock.

FYI, I had the same issue with not being able to find the M3x6 screws in black from Lowes, so I tried Home Depot, and they had a MUCH bigger assortment, and found everything I needed. I actually ended up using the nylon washers between the screws and the backplate, not between the backplate and the pcb. Not sure which way is better. Screw length seemed a bit short, but worked just fine.

The M3x6 without a washer and a M3x8 with a thin washer would be perfect. :-) I tried the M3x8 without, and it seemed just slightly loose. Hope that helps.

First off, props to Scarlet-Tech for starting this thread!  His post and the info he provided was my first guide and inspiration to finding a solution that would work for me.

The M3X8 Flat Head Socket Cap Steel Screws (Item M10402 from Mr. Metric) that I posted here http://forums.evga.com/m/tm.aspx?m=2129450 work perfectly for mounting the EVGA backplate to the card, screwed into the attached EK waterblock - they are not loose at all.  (They may not work quite as well with the EK backplate though.)  For my application, I think the reason they work so well is due to the fact that the socket caps on these screws are ever so slightly larger then the mounting hole openings on the EVGA backplate itself.   Note that these screws do not mount perfectly flush with the surface of the EVGA backplate though - they stick up about a millimeter...  but to me they fit quite nicely.  (Way better then some of the non-flat socket cap screws I've tried, which will jut way above the backplate.  Judge for yourself in the pics that I posted in the link above.  The forth pic I provided shows this quite nicely.

I may see if I can find some flat head M3x8 that will sit completely flush, and plastic caps for the excess openings. Your cards looks good :-) i still love my Classies! They are tanks and have proven to be worth every penny I didn't have when I bought them :-D

Is it OK to install M3x6mm without washer?
And thermal pads used on pictures are 1mm thick?

i think they mean m3x6 without and m3x8 with washer :)
""The M3x6 without a washer and a M3x8 with a thin washer would be perfect. :-) I tried the M3x8 without, and it seemed just slightly loose. Hope that helps.""

Anyway is better without washers if manufacturer didn't plan washers on that place.

I do think that the EVGA Stock Screws can be (Much) better then what they now use.

Is it OK to install M3x6mm without washer?
And thermal pads used on pictures are 1mm thick?

Thermal Pads on the Memory is 1/2mm thick.

Thermal Pads on the VRM is 1 thick.

Link to EKWB install instructions for most accurate details: [Click Here]
