Re: My new car! (First 0 mile car) 2014 Kia Optima SXL Turbo 2014/01/08 20:29:42 (permalink)
I just wanted to bust your balls and troll on the other members (I get bored at work sometimes). Im cheap when it comes to cars since I really only ever use mine for driving to work. Sure I drive my M3s occasionally on the weekend but I also want to keep the mileage down since they are old. I only pay around 400bucks for insurance and thats for 6months on all 4 of my bmws and my 1998 Ford Windstar van.

I wasnt trying to come off a a-hole and just thought that 700 a month is crazy for any car that is driven as a daily driver plus the full coverage insurance you are forced to pay. Since I own my old cars I just get liaiblity which runs me like 15 bucks a month for each car.

Then again I have a perfect driving record so that helps. I personally will never own a new car or atleast dont think I could ever bring myself around to doing it, Simply because of the depreciation value once you drive it off that lot.

Sure If you need a 100% reliable car to get you from Point A to B without any hickups then by all means get a car that will do that for you. But if you bought it without sensibly thinking about the long term then you might want to reconsider. You could buy a beater and take the extra money you would have been spending for a car payment and put it into an investing account or even savings and allow your money to make money for you.

So yes end of rant/troll for the day.

I don't get that payment.  I mean I bought a 2011 Dodge Caravan Stow'n Go minivan brand new with 3 km's on the odometer, with seating for 7, navigation, SAT radio, DVD player/with monitor and headphones for passengers in the back, 6-speed auto trans, 6 power windows, Air/Cruise, power drivers seat, it has a V6 with 283hp....it really moves!  It is a really smoking awesome vehicle and my payments are only $162 every 2 weeks......and I purchased it with only $2500 down.  I just couldn't see the value in a small car with that payment.  HOWEVER.....it is YOUR car and it is for YOU.  All that matters is that YOU like it and YOU find that it is worth it to YOU.  What we all think is moot.  Most are probably laughing that I own a minivan.....and even more so that I think it is cool.  Let me tell you, when you travel all day for 2 days with your 2 kids, your girlfriend and her 2 kids, in comfort, room, and economy.......and you don't get one "are we there yet?".....that there is priceless my friend.  As for being a domestic, she just passed 80,000km's and the only thing to go wrong is a nail took out a tire.  Best cruise range was on the I5 to California from Vancouver where we hit 823km's to one tank.....not bad with 6 passengers and full of luggage.

So, uhh... AAA quoted $4,400 for 12 months full coverage (At the highest deductible and lowest coverage) and Progressive quoted $2,000 for 6 months.

LOL... I'm going to keep looking, But dang.. That's intense. I can only imagine what It'd be like if I had gotten another sports cars/convertible.

Edit: I also got a quote from the temporary insurance I was given at Kia Motors (Insurance Express) it's quoted at $695 monthly or $4,395.90 for 6 months, LOL!

I think its more to do with his age as far as insurance goes 22 your still considered reckless that won't change till you turn 25, as far as the car payment, yea it seems high, but we don't know his interest rate unless I missed it

It seems you need to either get a bit older, get married, stop speeding, or stop getting into accidents. $4,000 a year for insurance, whoa. I have two Infiniti's and I pay $1,200 a year, for both. When I was 20, I paid that much but the car was worth $5,000 not $40,000. I had 5 tickets and 7 accidents in my record. I think I funded the Safe Auto business venture.
I love cars too, but they are a constant expense. Finance them in a way that works for you. I just paid mine off and now I have $1,600 a month to invest in my rig. Boom!

I use to pay $1080/ year for full coverage on my 2007 Hyundai Sonata. When I paid it off in September, my insurance dropped $30/month so now I only pay $720/year for full coverage.

Re: My new car! (First 0 mile car) 2014 Kia Optima SXL Turbo 2014/01/11 21:54:16 (permalink)
Well thats what I was stating. I started out in a old ford tempo my parents let me use for work and school. I then joined the military at 18 and didn't have a car. My wife went out and bought a new but used Honda Accord but the car payment was around 500 a month plus 500 a month for insurance. I told her No that was just way to much for a car at the time since I was a young PFC in the military at the time.
She was able to return it with little hassel and I ended up with a 1996 Ford windstar with around 200k miles that lasted me around 3 good years until it got totaled.  Moral of the story is I cared more about saving money then appearance. Sure the van was old had miles but it worked and it worked flawless because I kept the maintenance up on it.

So I dont your personal situation, but if you got this car to show off or impress your peers then Id advise you to take a step back and reevaluate the reason behind getting a new car.

It gets me to work and back without wasting much gas... Sure, I could have had a 4 banger without the turbo, But I want to have fun once in a while. I use cruise control to drive most of the time now, Unless it's high traffic and I've noticed the gas lasts way longer like that. The appearance is just a bonus... Yes, I like the looks you get when you're driving a new car or the compliments from people, But that wasn't my priority. I saw what the car had to offer, Could I afford it? Yes. Am I able to save money while paying this car? No.

I do wish my dad paid it off like he did with my first car, But I like the fact that I worked my credit to my liking and was able to get this without anyones help. It does seem like a waste of money, But I love this car and to me it's worth every penny.

That's not being able to afford it if you can't save money up.
That's barely skimming by. Ask anyone that lives paycheck to paycheck that they can't afford it, and just skim by - while that works great in theory, if an unexpected expense shows up you are screwed and that's how you incur debt.

When you're a kid and you have 100 bucks, and you buy 100$ dollar item, you can afford it as you don't have any expenses that having a $0 balance would matter. But as an adult tying up your cash flow and recurring income without any left over will leave you in a bad situation. I think you are getting too caught up in the whole building credit thing versus affordability of an item to understand what living within your own means.

Most folks I know that have a monthly payment of 7-800 a month make upwards 8-90k a year. Heck most people that rent pay that monthly in rent and not in car payments.

So you paid 41k for a Kia? Wow!! could of bought a C class for that much......either way grats! I remember my first new car purchase, it was a 1995 Honda Civic Si. I remember paying $14,500 out the door, and had it paid off in 36 months. Turned it into a low-rider, and sold it for 10,000 to a dealer with 80k miles on it in 2001.
I'm going to hold on to this Benz another 2 years at least, she just hit 49k(2006)she is fully loaded with a Harmon-Kardon 12 speaker system complete with sub-woofer and center channel.

My turbo would suck both those leaf blowers(rush's and mbp's) in and spit them out with out even noticing the hickup... to each their own, i could have bought any car i wanted an bought a 36k Sti and put another 25k into it so who am i to judge.

Your car is nice, but if you have to brag about it over a stock Kia, you've got some self esteem problems to work out. But not everybody cares about speed and power.

@Srtie4k why do you always have some stupid comment to add to everyone's thread??
I think Srtie4k is the one with self-esteem issues.....and by the looks of your budget build in Modsrig, you couldn't afford a 41k Kia even if you wanted one!!!

As other people stated, I don't have to justify anything. I can do what I like with my money.

Edit: @Sean I like your benzo, I would have gotten either one of those or a BMW, But too be honest, I haven't even test driven those car.. It was an impulse buy. At first I did want a car that would make me feel rich (even a 20k benz/bmw) lol, But I looked over that and got what I liked.

When you look at this car, It doesn't look like a 41k car, Just like how when most people look at BMW's, Lexus, Cadillac, Mercedez... They think the drive is wealthy, Which is often BS. I'm fine driving a $41,000 car that looks like a $20,000 basic model... =P!

The only thing that stands out on this car to let people know of its price, Is the "Turbo" signs on either side, the dual soon roof and the SXL logo. Again, I drove it, Liked it, Bought it. :)!!! Happy with my purchase!! I was worried about my credit card payments and all that, But then I realized that with my first paycheck, I can pay $700 monthly payment + $400 insurance (If I had to, But I'll look for a cheaper one, Before sticking to one) and on my 2nd payment, I'll do whatever the hell I want with it! =D

Anyways, It seemed like a tight budget until I actually ran the #'s and it all adds up. I'll be fine, I can save if I want to.... But you know I don't want to, LOL! Screw saving, For all I know I'm going to die tomorrow. (I'm sure this will change once I purchase my house late 2014 or early 2015).

Don't worry about what others with issues say.  Buy what you can afford and what you like.  They are not the ones behind the wheel nor are they ones writing the checks.  It is a nice car and one that should last a while.  Take care of it and there could be significant time where you do not have to make a payment.  Some folks will always throw out hate, they have the issues.  if the car makes you feel better, great.  The price of all cars today is getting ridiculous, as it is not just Kia.  I priced out a Ford Fusion that was over $45,000.  Whoa.  Value is a personal choice.  Enjoy the ride.

$1200/month for car and you are buying a house towards the end of the year? Did you win the lotto or are you making money 'under the table'?

@Srtie4k why do you always have some stupid comment to add to everyone's thread??
I think Srtie4k is the one with self-esteem issues.....and by the looks of your budget build in Modsrig, you couldn't afford a 41k Kia even if you wanted one!!!

You're the one who got banned for flaming people, hypocrite. And there you go again.

Rush its a nice car, but I'd caution you to over extend yourself, trust me on that one.

By over extending myself, Do you mean like my financial capability?

$1200/month for car and you are buying a house towards the end of the year? Did you win the lotto or are you making money 'under the table'?

What are you talking about?

@Candle_86 I'm trying very hard to stay in my budget. Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it! :)

Arguing a point is one thing. Being a jackass is another, and spamming someone's modrigs is a whole new level of being a jerk. Seriously..if you can't argue your point of view nicely in a forum leave. So far we've had a conversation flame free here well people agree to disagree on certain subjects.
