I got myself the Gtx 770 with acx Cooler 02G-P4-2773-KR. The first one was acting really weird, it would crash randomly out of the blue, my screens would turn different colour every time and I had to restart. So after speaking with support got an rma. This one works good for a week then problems again! This time it's different,it crashes to black screen but on restart I get . Now with this one tho "most" of the time it crashes while playing BF4, altho it happened while browsing too. The screens go black and the fans start spinning like crazy and making lots of noise, first time I literally thought its gonna explode. So now I'm out of ideas, I mean its the second one and the crash is different....Before I had a GTX 570 and it worked perfectly never a single issue. I double cheked my ram the timing are correct 1600, psu shows up at 12.4v, did a clean driver install with driver cleaner and all that, tried in a different slot and still the same. What pisses me the most is that I can't even pin point it. It always crashes out of the blue, could be in 10 min could be in 2 hours so I can't really see what is causing it.
Any ideas if it's the drivers, something to be done with the GPU or any compatibility issues?

I get the exact same issue as the OP, and have seen a lot of other threads just from google searching of people getting the same thing, with no clear fix for it - only just installed the card yesterday, got up to date drivers, and it crashes when playing games randomly, usually depending on how much load I put on the card - when using Furmark, it will always "random-colour screen" when the card hits 80 degrees.

To answer the above, at idle my GPU averages 30/35, "under load" varies fairly massively. Most games take it up to 40/50, some take it up to 60/70 - as previously mentioned, Furmark only gets as far as 80 degrees before crashing. On the plus, this at least gives me a constant way to force a crash. Anyone have any suggestions?

In the first post please uninstall any video card monitoring software such as EVGA Precision and/or MSI Afterburner (if installed). When prompted if you wish to remove all settings choose to do so.

Then uninstall the drivers again and reinstall the drivers again using the clean install method.

If my steps in post 5 do not work go into the X58 BIOs settings and make sure the memory timings are set manually and not XMS.

Ensure your motherboard BIOs is up to date. If your motherboard has any type of legacy mode try that and see if the crashes continue. Ensure your chipset drivers are up to date (reinstall if you are not sure).

Did you make sure you completely removed the ATI drivers prior to installing the Nvidia drivers?  If not, uninstall both ATI and Nvidia drivers, reboot and reinstall Nvidia.  Do a custom install and only install graphics & PhysX.  Nothing else.  Make sure to put a check mark in "clean" install.  Then do some testing to see how that works out.

Uninstalled all drivers, rebooted, reinstalled the Nvidia drivers as you said, rebooted, just ran FurMark for 10 minutes and it capped at 80 degrees the whole time, no crashes. Will play some games to make sure this has fixed the issue and update, but its looking promising - thanks.

Furmark is not the best benchmark to be using for GPU testing in my personal opinion. Better to use Futuremark or another similar benchmark.

Ok so before I did another clean install and double chek my bios I decided to get 3D mark as advised. So I ran the cloud gate test, everything went smooth, got my results, apparently my build is pretty good, so no problems here. Well then I go to write this post here after the stress test and guess what...well my pc crashes, actually both screens go into power saving mode, while all the rest keep working, so obviously I had to force restart. So I will go on with another driver sweep and install chek again my bios. Two things tho, there hasn't been any update available for my bios since 2011, I don't know if that good also for my memory speed, I noticed that 3D mark results shows each stick at 667mhz while in E-leet it says Dram 796mhz, Im kinda confused here, I know my I got in bios at 133mhz with a 24 multiplier and a turbo boost..

    Thanks!

If you have any CPU overclocking active bring this back down to default and test again. Also reload your motherboard chipset drivers if you haven't already done so so.

Small update here, I went into bios to make sure everything is fine so:
    No XMP profile,turbo mode enabled,speedstep enabled,Memory frequency at 1600mhz/2:12 @ 8,8,8,24, 1.65v,cpu host frequency at 133mhz, 24x multiplier (plus the turbo mode)
So that's about right I guess

So I did a clean install of drivers and disabled the turbo boost. Ran 3D Mark and half way it crashed again. It actually gets worse now...It crashes 3 times in a row before I can get into windows, each time screens going into power saver mode while everything else seems to be working just fine. Any other ideas on this?

Go into the BIOS and check that your ACPI suspend type is set to "S1 & S3".  Then boot to Windows.  Go into the power options and turn off all forms of sleep and hibernate etc...Whatever power option you're using, you'll have to go into the advanced options also to make sure nothing is set to turn off.  Make sure the monitors are set to never sleep.  Makes sure in the advanced settings > PCI Express > Link State Power Management > setting is off.

Let us know if this helps out...

@bdary that still didn't help..Meanwhile I did some RAM testing and here what I got so far.

1.Tested each ram stick separately with 3D Mark, out of 6, 4 failed at the physx part, the other two passed.
2.Tested the 2 "good" sticks twice and passed again
3.Tested both of them together, first time it was good second time I switched the slot of one of them out of curiosity and it failed.
4.Did a full CMOS clear (battery out, then used the reset button)
5.Left the BIOS untouched except for ACHI mode enabled for my SSD. The rest default so I didn't adjust the memory settings like they should be (8,8,8,24 @ 1600) instead left everything on auto (8,8,8,20 @ 1067)
6.Tested each stick again separately, only one of them gave me "video display driver stopped responding and has recovered.." error, but no actual crash with black screen, so that's kinda better..
7.Tested all of the 6 sticks together and it passed.

For now it doesn't really crash in 3D Mark, but I will see with the rest
Now I don't really know what to make of all this. Is there an actual correlation between the GPU and RAM sticks or the crash just happens randomly/on off?

BTW Thanks for the support guys, much appreciated!

Wow, that all seems pretty strange.  I'm not seeing any kind of pattern that would tell us what we might try next.  Running the ram slots all populated on the X58 usually requires extra VTT voltage.  But you say it passed with all 6 sticks...hmmm

Also, the PhysX test on 3D mark is done with the CPU, so at stock settings, that's odd that you didn't pass.

There really isn't any correlation between the GPU & Ram as far as what you tested for that I can think of...

Just for the heck of it, try setting your CPU VTT voltage to +100mV and run some more tests and let's see what happens.

Did a +100mV on the cpu VTT, ran 3D Mark twice, within 30min interval, both times passed,so it's still holding.Fingers crossed lol...Ill keep monitoring with daily usage and play some BF4 see how it's gonna hold up

Great...  If this continues to work and once you're confident it's working properly, you can begin to decrease the VTT voltage in +25mV increments until you experience the issue again.  Then set it back up to the last good voltage you had.  Or you could just leave it there, up to you.
    Keep us posted...

    Back again..
So I was pretty excited, for two weeks everything ran so good, now guess what back to zero...:(. I have to say this is really annoying.
So my screens started to crash again, same thing, they just shut off, while the whole computer keeps working. Today I actually had a hard time opening the computer at all, it crashed even before windows log on,and after that it crashed 3 times in a row right after powering the computer..jesus..
    Anyways 2 questions here:

1: I am definitely going to do a new win install, to clear out all software issues that might be involved. I've also stumbled upon people that were affected with this "bitcoin minig" malware thing, I don't know why but I have a feeling I might have that, altho I have norton 360 and did a malwarebytes scan. Does thins thing actually exists, any way of finding it out?

2: If a new win install doesn't help either, then it means It has to be hardware right. My monitors seem ok,my memory shouldn't be the issue since that was tested,I don't think it's the mobo. So it leaves me with the PSU. Before I go and buy a new one, any way of testing it, to see if it fluctuates or is defective, as far as it goes for me it always shows 12.4v for the gpu output so i don't know of any other way to find out it has problems or no (its been around 4 years since I have it). Also my UPS, is old and I do know that it fails, I need to replace it or get new batteries,(i didn't get a new one cuz I don't really have power problems where I live, but everything is still connected thru the ups) can that in any way affect the psu or gpu and providing the right voltages?

    Thanks guys!

A fresh OS install would get rid of anything that's possibly on your system like you mentioned.
Try bypassing the UPS for awhile to rule that out as a potential problem.
Do you monitor your +12v voltage with a load on the GPU?  Like while benching or gaming?  Sometimes if the PSU is getting weaker from degradation, when under a heavy load, it can drop below the needed power to your hardware.  If you find that you're getting as low as 11.4v or below, it's quite possible it's your PSU.

I'm having the same stuff happen to me its starting to look like the 770's are just lemons and they need to be fixed, its way to many people having problems with them. I get a grey/red/yellowish grey screen after logging off FFXIV 3 out of 5 times and I've done just about everything under the sun to fix it, Hell I just got a new msi g45 gaming mobo,i5 4670k, sniper 1866ram and a new PSU and it still ****s up. this is after doing the same thing on my old i7 920 asus p6t deluxe v2 rig.

Hey Bdary, srry dindn't have much time to respond...
Well turns out the fresh OS install helped "in a way"...screens don't turn off and for a week everything went smooth, I kept the OS to a minimum, installed drivers,VLC and BF4, to make sure it's not a software conflict. YET again it didn't really help. It's been two days I got two crashes and again its a totally different crash. One screen goes blue the other black and I have to force restart.I must note that it's completely RANDOM...I worked on the PC for a day and at night it crashed while browsing, so I really don't know how to pinpoint the problem. Now if you could suggest me a way to monitor my PSU 12v the way you said, I would really appreciate it!
Im kinda on the verge of either throwing my PC or that GPU into the wall..

You can use EVGA E-leet to monitor your +12v reading.  I'm not convinced that's your issue though since it's so random and happens even with light loads.  It sounds more like maybe a loose connection somewhere, or some software you have running that's not playing nice with the graphics driver or something.

When you do your graphics driver install, are you doing a custom, clean install with only the graphics & PhysX check marked to install and nothing else??  If not, give that a try.  Make sure to put a check in the "clean" install box and uncheck the audio, all 3D stuff and the Geforce experience.

    Ill give E-leet a try!
For the rest I always install just the drivers and phys-x with a clean install. I have no idea how it would conflict, after the OS install the only thing I installed was (windows updates, gpu drivers,VLC,BF4 for in game testing, chrome, chipset drivers) all the  rest I kept at default without installing anything extra. One thing tho for the audio. In device manager under audio I have 4 audio devices (1 from my webcam, one from my creative audio card, and two other HD audio device that should be from the mobo) I didn't install any driver for these yet, is it possible they might conflict in a way, any way of completely disabling the gpu audio,I've seen with other driver installs that even if I unchek the audio driver option it would sometime appear in my devices.

Read through this >> http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=586183  The 1st post.  It was written for Fermi cards, but applies just the same for any cards with HDMI ports.  Once you do this, you won't see the audio portion anymore in the graphics installer.

As far as the blue & black screens, the only other thing I can think of is, possibly at setting in Chrome (ie; hardware acceleration), or the VLC software, maybe even your Creative sound card driver.  You'd have to take each thing out of the scenario one by one with some time & testing in between to verify none of these items are causing the issue.

"I think" i might have found the problem. You mentioned the loose connection so just for the hell of it I played around and noticed that everytime I would ever slightly move the 12 pin connector of the GPU, it would crash right away and I would get the same error report as usually. So I went and replaced the 12pin with a new one, moved it around and it seemed to hold better then the other and the crashes stopped. I reallly hope that its that, and it somehow makes sense, because my gtx570 that I had no problem before only used two 6 pin...I won't rush it, ill wait awhile to get a final verdict lol. If in fact it was that cable the issue then damn stupid me for not cheking that before..
