Here is my rig made for sim racing. Right now its almost done, with triple screens coming at the end of 2014, along with a beefier GPU. I will keep it a single GPU given that the current sim that I use Iracing does not deal well with SLI. Mot of the wooden parts have been covered with carbon fiber, with the base for the seat left to be covered (should be done at the beginning of 2014). The whole cockpit chassis is made out of 2" PVC pipe. Here are the links to my rig and to my blog regarding the construction of the cockpit:

Update 9/26/14 - The GPU just arrived and the rig is complete still have the triple monitors to order and install.

Awesome! I with I had enough space to do something like that.

The footprint of the cockpit is around 54" x 34". I taught it was going to end up smaller, but when I assembled everything I was surprised by the footprint, which ended up being larger. I tried to do my best to make it into a workstation too.

For the viewing pleasure of everyone on the thread, I have uploaded a video of me doing a couple of laps around Virginia International Raceway during a practice session.

You need 3 Bigger screens for that and definitely some Bose companion 3 speakers Then it will be awesome!  

The current monitor is 23". I will go with 3 x 24" as that should be enough. I will build a monitor stand that goes over the cockpit so I can place it as close as possible to me. As for sound I use a 5.1 headset. When I install the Buttkicker I will venture into getting sound from two different sources as the headset is USB.

The tough part for me was wiring the wheelplate on the steering wheel, as I had to detach the wheel from the base and disconnect cables to then re-route them through the wheelplate, and wiring the buttons to the display was another tough thing for me. Building the cockpit was relatively easy, as long as you have the measurements and the right tools.

Well I only play SC2, maybe GW2 when I get my new comp and possibly the MMORPG Skyrim?  Its just computer chairs always hurt my back and I go between leaning forward to leaning back.  I think the way you setup your chair would allow me to lean back, did you just take a chair out of a car and bolt it in?

Hmm and everythign else is welded/bolted together?

So it seems like your cockpit is easy enough, do you have any ideas on making it recline?  Not just the seat itself but to also elevate your legs?

If it was my setup, I would get a much bigger Monitor, if it would fit. Also, if I'm not sitting too close to it.

Just want to keep you guys updated about what is happening with my rig. Yesterday I was able to finally put the last piece of carbon fiber upholstery on the seat base, so now it looks awesome. Recently got a quick release system for the wheel base and got to install it on the stock wheel. Now if I want to do work on my computer I can remove the steering wheel and have a clear view of my monitor. I also got a formula wheel, but during the shipping two of the switches popped out. Fortunately they are being replaced and the wheel is in the hands of its original creator to include a set of paddle shifters, knobs for the switches, and to attach a quick release to it. Finally, decided to disassemble the original wheel and cover the paddle shifters in carbon fiber (there is no such thing as too much carbon fiber eh?). Pictures of everything is attached.

That's a great project, turned out pretty nice. It was cool even before you added the carbon fiber, but it does make it look better. I'm very interested in the QD coupler, wondering if there is a US supplier? Want it for my G27. Very cool, thanks for posting it and sharing!!

Thanks for your words. I always got some amazing looks from friends when they came home and saw it before I painted it or added any carbon fiber. I don't want to imagine what could happen now that I have added all the carbon fiber to it, perhaps they won't leave my house. 
 
As for the QR, I think any QR out there could be used to fit, but some adjustments should be made to the wheel base and steering wheels. I like this one because no additional modifications must be made, plus, if you noticed on one of the pictures, there is a 15-pin connector that lets me connect the buttons on the wheel plus one USB connector, making it a true QR. I bought the QR system second-hand and the male 4-pin connectors did not came with it, so I have to order the connectors plus the crimps to make it work, plus I have to open the wheel base to route a USB cable through the center of the wheel.
 
One thing I like about this QR system is that I could make it fit into any wheel base out there. Maybe creating a mounting plate should do the trick.

Most of it is upholstery that I had in my parents' house. My best friend gave me a roll of it for me to do some stuff and then I left home (I was born and raised in Puerto Rico).Two years later I got married back home and I asked my mom if she didn't throw away the carbon fiber, and to my surprise it was there!!! I had the measurements of everything so I made all the cuts there. Fortunately there was just enough to cover all the wood sections.

As for the paddle shifters, thats a separate roll of carbon fiber, vinyl this time.

What else can I cover?
