So I will be doing my new build next week,
wondering if I should go ahead and create a bootable usb,
put the bios on it and flash it as soon as I have the board posting,
or just wait until I get windows 8.1 installed and flash from windows...

Personally I go for the bootable USB. Just a personal preference as you don't have Windows to mess things up.
I have used the windows flash a couple of times when trying to sort out issues (already booted into windows) and needed to do a bios flash back. It worked perfectly both times.

I'm so hoping that this bios update will sort out the two weeks of waiting that I have to endure whilst booting into windows 7 ;)

Out of interest, what was the issue with the sata optical drive?

Looking forward to giving it a go tonight. Fingers crossed.

    Chris_Waddle,

From what you said above, are you having the slow boot issue with the cursor that blinks for 40 seconds then finally loads WIN 7? I am having the same issue.  I second a response on what the issue was with the sata optical drive.

Will be giving this a try later today.  Looking forward to comparing it to v2.07 which has been solid for me since release.

Thanks that is kind of what I was thinking.
I think if the board posts ok with the bios switch in position three and all looks well, I will go ahead and get Windows installed and running, then do a bios flash to 2.08 using the usb boot disc method.

    Thanks,

I only tried it for a bit at stock setting. I am finally able to run my memory at 2400 XMP (although my memory is rated at 2600, I think the board only has 2400 option). Only could run it at 2133 before though so that's a big improvement IMO. It still needs more testing and trying to overclock it. Thanks EVGA!

So far so good with Rev 2.08.  Even though I set mem timings manually, I tested with an XMP profile.  Ran a stress with a mild OC of 4.20GHz, and all tested well. I still recommend setting the DIMM voltages manually though as they are being reported on the low side in Aida64.  When on Auto using an XMP with 1.50v, they report being at 1.470 & 1.480v.

With revisions 2.07 and previous, I always had to manually set VCCIO and VSA voltages manually.  Now with leaving them on "Auto" settings, they are working properly & running where they should be.  So far at least with default settings and with an OC of 4.20GHz (42x100).

I plan on doing some more testing over the next several days to verify how my previous BIOS settings work with this new revision.  But so far so good...

Ok, so I just noticed my PCI-Express lane indicator LED's are all flashing green. Is this normal? With 2.07, whichever slot I had my GPU installed in would stay with a solid red LED, the others would be off.

    Looking good with v2.08!

No more long beep on boot with an external hard drive plugged in.

XMP Profile on my Corsair Dominator GT's seems to be working perfectly too, no random crashes (yet)! Awesome work.

Is the voltage spiking fixed with this bios?

That is an overclocking "feature" per Jacob,  - however, they did add the option to disable that feature I believe in 2.07...

Compared to UEFI 2.07, this new 2.08 broke the XMP profiles for my memory. Broke, as in my system enters a reboot loop if I use either of the XMP profiles. G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-32GTXD.

I hate to ask here, I am used to creating a cd to boot and install bios updates - been a while...
Creating a bootable usb disc to install a bios update from:
Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I did a search and am pretty sure my brain is scrambled, saw some supposed utilities I can download to accomplish it - can I just do it myself from inside Windows?

Thanks for any tips, want to get ready for the new build next week.
