I asked Illumishield about the delay and all they said was that their design for the Tegra Note 7 / HP Slate 7 Extreme has been delayed until the 27th. I'm calling shenanigans since HP's store is selling a screen protector.

HP has a screen protector listed but not available. I have also been looking for a screen protector and even looking at the Advent Vega and Xolo whatever there does not appear to be a specific one available or released yet. This entire launch is very weird.

Its very strange that 4 different manufacturers all decided to delay the the same product to the same day.

My guess if that is true, then they are all manufactured by the same people.   and they are just re-badged by the distributor.

Which would not be odd given the way Nvidia is marketing this tablet.

Perhaps, but I think one of the protectors is applied dry while the others are applied wet. Some have holes for the camera, while the Illumishield one uniquely extents around the speakers. So I partly doubt these companies are all rebranding the same product.

I think the more likely explanation is that they want to cash in on the high demand for Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung devices this holiday season. Why make stuff for the small fish in a sea full of iPads and Kindles?

Ya! Post ten...  Sorry.

Everyone is looking for screen protectors but I have a question..  Am I the only person that took a pair of nail clippers to the tab on factory screen protector?  I did this on my old droid 4 and it lasted a year before it fell off.

Well I made up my mind now. I am going with the Nexus 7 32GB. I was leaning toward the Tegra Note because the expandable memory slot but I decided to cough up a bit more money to purchase the 32GB Nexus 7. After watching this videos down below, they really helped me deiced on that factor of getting the Nexus 7 Especially the last video with the Nexus 7 gorgeous gameplay with that 1920x1200 res. Of course gaming will run much smoother on the Tegra note because of the lower resolution compared with the Nexus 7. By doing some long research on the two device I seen some benchmarks for both devices on CPU power and the Tegra Notes Tegra 4 CPU is only about 6% faster than the Nexus 7 Snapdragon CPU. That's not much of a difference and not worth it for me to sacrifice a high res screen in the nexus 7 for a CPU on the note 7 which is only 6% faster. Also I learned that the Nexus 7 has the ability to use a HDMI cable with an adapter such as this http://www.amazon.com/Skiva-Adapter-Supported-Samsung-Sensation/dp/B006FTKM12/ref=br_lf_m_1001334551_1_1_ttl/175-9132821-9959921?_encoding=UTF8&s=wireless&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1WYXJA71Y66ANJBYSMVX&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_p=1637216602&pf_rd_i=1001334551 .

As long as you enjoy your device it is a great tablet. A got one and the resolution is nice i just couldn't afford it.

I bought mine strictly for the stylus, so had I not wanted/needed that, I probably would have gone with the nexus too.  (if any)

That being said, I am happy with mine and so far the screen resolution has been a complete non factor for me.   I have not had a single time that I wished my screen was "better".   Games look great, movies look great, really unless they are side by side, I doubt anyone would complain about the quality of the screen if they didn't know it is lower.   The SD slot was very important to me too.   It really makes no sense to me to not have one.

I agree 100%. I have both and unless they are side by side one would have a hard time complaining about the TN7 compared to the N7.

Ok so forget what I said in my latest post on this thread. I think I changed my mind AGAIN! LOL!! Yes yes I know I keep flip flopping. But I think I want the tegra note 7 now instead of the nexus 7. The reason why I want the tegra note 7 despite all the pros/cons I listed from both tablets is because it is an EVGA product. After reading reviews on how ASUS treats their customers I am like the hell with ASUS and their retard service. It really pisses me off on how they want you to pay extra money for repair cost on something that was not your fault despite you having to also pay for shipping cost there and back. I bet it takes forever just to get a hold of a customer support representative especially one that speaks English correctly. Also I hate how they just treat you like a number unlike EVGA.  I think I will never ever buy an ASUS product(which I never have and its going to stay that way) based how horrible they are with their service to customers. So it looks like I will be going with my company that I love the most EVGA!! And yes I am a die hard EVGA fan boy no doubt about that. I love you EVGA, your the best and you better stay that way!!!

I finally got mine, and I can't believe that it crashed in one day.  Worked great until it decided to hang.

Hangs on the start screen, top-half gets really warm.  Power+Volume resets to the start screen and just hangs.

Any ideas?

If you can repeat it. . . And document how you did it then we could help.  I haven't had mine hang and I have used it constantly every day for weeks.  There are other weird things going on but hanging isn't one of them.

Sounds like you may need to send that back in sadly. The part about the top of the tablet getting hot, on other devices hardware/software wise something is using the battery improperly making it overheat. I would recommend re-flashing the factory image  BUT! Since we have none of that you are stuck as far as what the user can do at home. Send it in. Its times like this that baffle me why companies are holding this back, especially for people who have issues.

I am sorry to here this; However it sounds like a battery issue.  My old phone would start up and get really hot then it would hang on the start screen as well.  I think this is another instance of the OS.  I believe it is shutting itself down because of the heat so you don't wreck any of the hardware within.  I would call wherever you ordered your tablet from and get an RMA.  Unfortunately no matter how amazing a product is some units do get past QC...

Dang looks like I wont be getting the tegra note. I had a little birdy tell me that I am getting a nexus 7 for Christmas. So it would be stupid of me to go right ahead and buy the tegra note and have two tablets. Well at least I did not buy it so I cant complain. I still hate the fact that its ASUS. What sucks is the person bought an extended warranty on it. So I am like great what a waste of extra money for ASUS's crappy service.

If it has the receipt return it or just sell it.  My family knows I hate surprises and usually just gives me cash or whatever I ask for.  So yeah that's what I would do...

But its a Christmas present from my sister. I would feel so guilty selling something she took so much time and money to spend on my happy self. Its not the gift that matters its the thought and I feel so humbled about that. But I was thinking about giving it to my money since she is always on a mobile device but I think my sister bought her one too lol.

Re: Tegra 7 Note Owners Thread! 2013/12/20 11:23:15 (permalink)
I recently have been putting my TN7 through its paces. Definitely wanted a tablet with an SD card slot for expansion since it has a measly 16 GB (and hoping for JB 4.3 for installing apps to the SD card).  Wish the resolution was 1080p, had dual band 802.11 n, a 8 MP rear cam, 2 GB OS / App memory, but it's very serviceable with nice speakers and the stylus for note taking (great during business meetings since that's faster and more natural than "swyping").  Enjoying playing with bluetooth gamepads and remote keyboards as a wanna-be netbook and android game machine and TV Box with Plex, SlingPlayer, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, etc. etc.  Waiting for a decent plastic screen protector and the micro HDMI cable so I can test it on the HDTV.  Having an AirPlay server app is nice for beaming my friend's iPhone / iPad over (for vacation pix, home vids, and their song lists for parties), but sadly I cannot find any AirPlay mirroring server app (I bought AirServer for Win7/8 to use on my laptop w/Karaoke extend to HDTV) on the G-Play store.  If anyone has suggestions for apps that make beaming photos & movies from a Sammy SGIV to the TN7 easy, that would be appreciated (in other words: Who needs Chromecast??? Not me =^] )
Not sure how a TN7 (A15 quad / GeForce ULP) with offscreen 1080 GFXBench score of 20.2 vs. a Nexus 7 (2013 - APQ8064 / Adreno 320) score of 15.4 (23% faster) ... and ... TN7 Antutu CPU scores of 34965 / 3404 int / 4219 fp vs. Nexus 7 (2013) CPU scores of 20438 / 2270 int / 1897 fp (41% / 33% / 55%) is only 6% faster, but to each their own (Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics!).  Not to mention the eMMc I/O is 49% faster on the TN7 vs. the N7 (2013); and the O/S RAM is 33% faster on the TN7, so enjoy once again to quoting 6% from whatever sources (I highly doubt it was Anandtech or Tom's Hardware). Lack of a SD card is an abhor-able business practice in my book.  I suppose nVidia did not want to cannibalize the Shield sales with the TN7, but it's already down to $250 in order to move inventory, meanwhile the TN7 sales numbers are probably twice the Shield.  Just looking at the form factor and the intended market for the Shield, a lot of silicon is going to waste imho. Time to junk the Shield completely, retread the TN7 for an extreme model with 1080p, dual band wifi (or maybe even include ac), a better cam, and 2 GB / 32 GB, and sell that for 250$ for June 2014 Grads & Dads.
With the lack of Gamestream for the TN7, not sure that Shield has the advantage when you can just connect the TN7 via HDMI out to the HDTV and hook up a nice BT gamepad or 4 ;-] . As far as replacing SmartTVs & the whole android HDMI stick & Roku box, figure that we need 1.5 Gbps for 1080p viewing.  For lost in thought, let's spell things out a bit -- max speed for Wifi G is 54 Mbps, single band N is 120 / 300 Mbps max (where the TN7 sits), dual band is 450 / 600 / 900 Mbps maybe push 1.3 Gbps (2011 laptops), ac is 1.75 Gbps (2013 USB wifi dongles) (1.9 Gbps for the latest ac routers), so you can see where this is going.

** Warning -- ASIDE **
But honestly, why should we all keep paying for a newer IPS screen when what consumers really want is a pocket sized headless android computer that we can upgrade that has WiFi-Direct display to our touch-screen-pads or to our Miracast HDTVs?  The China based android TV boxes (those HDMI sticks from TomTop - Measly, Minix Neo 7), Ouya, Roku boxes, Chromecast, Nuvola, SmartTV competitors etc. would be dead in the water when one company gets it, and produces a "tablet" that can serve as a headless box to any "detachable" screen.
Asus almost gets it with the PadFone but telecomm carriers won't allow this multi-purpose device to be sold like this when most smart-phones are basically tablets with a SOC that has 4G/LTE integration with a 150$ surcharge. Imagine if Apple (or Samsung) sold iPhones as headless devices via carriers and then sold WiFi-Direct (or something really smart:: snap-in HDMI male to male converter with lining up the micro HDMI ports) 4.3" or 5" or 7" or 8" or 9" or  10.1" touchscreens (including a mic and modular camera option - from cheap to expensive depending on your taste for 5MP to 12MP and beyond); there would be no need for iPads ever again -- or the whole smartphone vs. tablet vs phablet vs. tv box form factor.  Apple loves the iMac form factor to integrate the machine with the screen, but the PC industry started with the hardware separated from the monitor and that needs to be brought back.  Say I want to lug around my "smartphone" so I plug in the box into a 4.3" touchscreen (WiFi direct connect or that nifty Asus-style HDMI plugging), but when I get home I want to have a more magazine style device so I re-connect to the 9 / 10" touchscreen.  Want to game - WiFi-Direct cast to your HDTV and connect your BT gamepad.  Want to watch movies - WiFi-Direct cast to your HDTV.  Get a phone call - answer it and pause the game or movie instantly.  Want to Skype on the big screen like Back to the Future - go right ahead and position the touchscreen in a dock or hold it and video chat away.  Why do we need AppleTV, Roku, Chromecast, Samsung SmartTV, or some android TV box in the middle of our personal smart-"phone" and the TV?  Hint nVidia & eVGA - major Hint.

This was done to an extent with the Atrix phone. The Tegra 2 wasn't fast enough for the functionality though, and the carrier wanted to charge for tethering.  The Tegra 4 is fast enough.  I think a phone form factor will be the more common form factor, and dongles being 2nd.  As far as web browsing speed this is quite close to an average desktop or laptop (i.e. ~2-3 year old).  Console mode on Shield is the closest thing, so maybe it will come to phones (being able to turn any compatible display into an Android computer ).

Just got my micro HDMI cable and works like a charm.  Plex on the TN7 outputs to full 1080p (no black borders on any side) to my Sammy HDTV so if anyone is getting 720p signal out, check with the app. I've got plenty of 720p and 1080p content so I can eyeball the granularity / blocky difference.

Whats the size for Wallpaper? I tried different size & it seems to blow up the pic & not in sync with screen? unless I'm doing something wrong.

Why is it that my PC does not detect my Tegra Note 7?...I believe I tried everything!?...It says on the Tegra USB computer connection Media device (MTP) or Camera (PTP)
but on my PC I see nothing at all no actions???

Sorry this is my fist time dealing with a Android Tablet, I thought this was a thread to help each other that own this EVGA Tegra Note 7,
It seems as no one here really know anything about this EVGA Tegra Note 7?

I research & find nothing on this, this lacks info & lacks settings...
