Hey guys, Finally got to order the Classified on monday night from evga, and running some tests, i'm wondering if this gpu is eithier 'low tier' in quality (asic) or possibly a lemon? (or is it norm for a classified 780?) It's asic rating is 74.8. OOTB it boosts up to 1137Mhz, which seems low. (Crysis 3 and other major benchmarks/heavy load games) Using prec/x for light oc'ing, while i could get over 1300MHz(200Mhz offset), it was unstable. It seems it's max stable at an offset of 109Mhz, were it's boost is at 1241. (I'm talking Crysis 3 for 10+ min's stable. Max for Crysis 3 is 1254..but it's not 100% stable) That's the only oc'ing i'm using, is that offset of the clock. So is this a low tier binned gpu, or a lemon? Or is it normal? Thanks guys. FWIW Pc specs: --------- POS Alienware Auroda case..motherbd, 16GB Ram..ect, 3820 oc'ed @ 4.2Ghz, Samsung 840pro 512GB SSD and 1TB HDD.

Hey Philip, I would say that's not bad at all. On my 2 cards I only get 63% and 64.3%, not classified though. The max stable overclock I can get is +50 core (1150Mhz) and +400 Mem (3400Mhz). I don't know how accurate those asci scores really are to be honest.

Thanks for the reply. Those asic are confusing as many at say overclocked, have said they mean nothing..yet some(in other forums) swear by them. For you, max stable oc, is by what standards? For me(very limited time, so far) it's heavy benchmarks and playing Crysis 3 for 10+ min or more. Thanks again. dave6479 Hey Philip, I would say that's not bad at all. I just got 2 in today and tested them out. Got ASIC of 76.8 and 79.9. I can OC to 1306Mhz Core and 6800MHz Memory before it becomes unstable. Thats at stock Voltage. Raising the voltage from the 1.16v to 1.2v doesnt seem to change anything but heat. Top card hits 80C and card starts to fail I assume since bottom card is at a nice 56C at full load. Need to wait on the waterblocks to really get SLI overclocked.

You got you're to run stable at 1306Mhz without the added memory increase? And what did you test the gpu's on to make sure they ran stable? For me I was running over 1300Mhz for a few benchmarks, until I ran Crysis 3, which after a min or so, frooze up on me. If you got a stable 1306Mhz in top games, that's impressive stuff. What are you're temps before raising the voltage? It seems the temps are a 'real' measure of how these oc, rather then the quick rating from a simple program as GPU-Z is. At first I was believing the asic rating from gpu-z, but after reading a lot of replies at overclocked.net, it seems that gpu-z is all over the place in it's asic rating. What is really key to oc'ing, is keeping case-->gpu temps very cool. At least that's what a lot have replied about in other forums..and from my own experience, as well. crezno I just got 2 in today and tested them out. Got ASIC of 76.8 and 79.9. It runs stable with memory increase. I tested with heaven benches valley benchmark at 7680x1440 max setting and with 3d mark firestrike.
Played skyrim with ultra hd textures last night for 3 hours.
Temps didnt really go up. Maybe about 5c on the top card. At stock my fans never really went above 30%. With oc fans are at 100%

It seems around 1250 is the average. Mine can't even hit a +100 gpu offet at 79% asic without showing instability in games, so I have left it on stock, quite disappointing. Oc stability could be caused by driver issues though as it seems the 700 is still lacking a solid driver. I don't think heat is an issue as the card won't go above 70c (fan is about 75%) on stock voltage and around 75c (fan around 75%) at 1.2v.

From a lot of forum replies(be it the overclocked or other forums), it seems the higher the asic the worse a gpu overclocks..or some have said this. Also, they were saying if the user just does not oc it at all(stock or use the temp/power and set both to max), it's better to have the higher asic rating. For me, with a 74.8(for what that's worth?) asic, I got kinda low OTBB boost at 1137max, but with adding the gpu offset, I got a stable +109. So it's 1137 OOTB boost, and I believe 1241 with that offset. Personally, i'm not even comfortable oc'ing any gpu(as I use air only..big case but not great/larger fans-->POS..Alienware Auroda..lol) as i'm not rich to where I want the gpu rma'ed or (at this time) want any more pc down time. Also, before going back to pc gaming(had to console only it with a newborn 9yrs back) I had little time for tweaking cpu/gpu settings/oc'ing..ect. And I focused in on gaming only. Problem was, once I got back into pc gaming, then it became about 'numbers', as far as fps and then oc'ing. For me, I game only at 1080p(since I cannot afford a 30" 2560*1600 display) and with a 23" 3D 1080p monitor and 42" 3D Plasma, 1080p is where i'll be at for a yr..maybe more. Iv'e come to this conclusion: I want low noise from my pc, as well as low temps and possibly both the cpu and gpu not oc'ed, as I don't like to risk problems. Heck, the only game(I play) that needs any extra fps's in 1080p is Crysis 3. If games like Far Cry 3, Bioshock Inf, BF3..ect, run at a lock 60fps with even 2X MSAA or 4X(8X is overkill..imho), then i'm in no way messing with oc'ing. Maybe once BF4 and others are released this winter I will need to oc to get a lock 60fps, but as of now, I think i'm going back to OOTB settings, and just enjoy gaming with oc'ing hassles. Heck, you mentioned it your'self, as there is still no stable driver for the 700 series as well, so unless you games need more fps, why the heck oc? But that's just my take on things..lol. [but I'm not happy my Classified 780 hit's only 1137 OOTB, as I expected a bit better. But even so, i'd probably never notice an increase in fps's at 1080p, anyway] Sorry about the rant..lol. btw: How much does your OOTB boost clock reach? With 79%, i'd gather it should be 1150MHz or a bit higher. You have a nice binned gpu it seems..heck, enjoy it!. smitherific

Same as yours, 1137 boost at stock volts and 1176 if I set the voltage to 1.2v. This is my 2nd card, I had to rma my first one (82.1 asic). It would get stuck at 324mhz after a single load and require a comp reboot to fix it on two computers, green/blue dot artifacts at stock clocks on two computers in both oc scanner and kombuster, and produce lots of screen tearing at stock clocks in metro ll on a computer that I game with. However, it did boost to 1150 at stock voltage straight out of the box and hit 1180+ if I recall. I think I may have posted that info in an earlier thread. I do relish the card, but the extra month or so I had to endure for the classified release while passing on the acx sc is not a pain I would wish on anyone. I am slightly miffed mine doesn't seem to be able to oc, but that's just how the lottery goes.

We all know that if the GPU run at the advertised clock speeds, then the GPU is 100% fine and it cannot be returned. BUT, When you pay $50 extra for a classified GPU, you do expect it to run clock speeds higher than any other "SC" or "reference" GPU. The whole point of the Classified GPUs is to overclock it to the max. Not to run clock speeds similar to the reference GTX 780s... I think you should return it and exchange it with the SC version.

Rei86 Can't believe we have threads like this still popping up. Lol agree, everyone seems to be unhappy if their card doesn't say, overclock past 1200Mhz or something. Even at stock compared to a decent overclock you'll hardly notice the difference in gaming, ESPECIALLY if you don't have fraps or something running. Just enjoy your gaming I've been trying to get a overclock anyway just out of curiosity and something that is stable in one game is unstable in another
