No, you cannot quad SLI GTX 780's. The only card of the current generation that allows you to run 4 cards in SLI is the GTX Titan. GTX 780 are limited to 3-way SLI.

Both of the boxes for my 780s say 4-way SLI on them.
Since I don't have four I obviously can't vouch for that, but the box does claim 4-way SLI support.

As Jacob said, it's a misprint on the boxes. EVGA sent out the first lot of cards in mistakenly labelled 4-way SLI boxes, they've since been changed for future shipments.

Guys put this at youtube search: "#317 [tutorial] - Chutando a Bunda da Nvidia - Ativando 4-way SLI GTX 780" ( without quotes).

A Brazilian guy with some tweaks and some files ( that you can download in the video description), could enabled 4-way SLI GTX 780.
This is not official so, you only try this if you want.

Why in the world would EVGA disable 4-Way SLI on a 780 card? I am running 4-Way SLI with 670 cards and the machine rocks! Is it because they want you to spend 4 grand on Titans for the privilege? I don't understand...

It wasn't EVGA's decision. NVIDIA made that decision.

That's absolutely what nVidia wants, and precisely why they have taken official 4-way support away from everything but Titans.

And as Sajin said, EVGA has nothing to do with the decision.

Not entirely true. It is a driver limit and there are several modified drivers that allow for 4 way sli on the 780s

It's the same reason nvidia block 4-way 660s or don't allow 2 monitor spanning... they like removing features instead of adding them :-\

If the the AMD drivers weren't so bad I'd swap to them ASAP.

You wouldn't want to quad sli ACX cooling to begin with if on air. You would do much better with reference cooling in a quad config as ACX is not conducive to stacking on top of each other. You should have a minimum empty slot between cards with ACX

    Seriously. +1

Someone tried 4-way acx coolers on his titans to horrific results. Check out the thread here if you are interested.

2-way acx is surprisingly amazing with really good case airflow, but anything more than that seems impossible.

    Re:quad sli GTX 780 2013/09/28 11:17:03 (permalink)
im running 4 780's atm and while I would appreciate NVidia firing the moron who thought it would be a good idea to remove a feature that has been present and is still present in every card except the 780's (as if people are going to spend 4000 on cards just based on that privelage as opposed to spending 3500 whats the damn diff)  I was hoping that there HAD to be a reason they did it (such as driver issues) that wasn't as shallow and ridiculous as the crap they seemed to have pulled.  ANyhow back on topic - as to be expected scaling isn't anything like 1-2 or 2-3 even, but there is improvement (atleast in benchmarks, I haven't had a chance to game yet)

Whats odd is that every benchmark I have ran see's improvement vs tri sli except ffxiv arr.  This benchmark sees a drastic decrease in performance.  We are talking like by 50%.  I get the same performance with quad sli as I do with 1 card.  Its boggling the mind.

As far as newer drivers, im hoping someone comes up with something.  This is unacceptable and im s urprised there isn't a bigger stink about it than there is.  They made a bad choice and now we have to suffer with the consequences?  I couldn't afford 4 titans so I have to be screwed out of a feature that has been present for years?  No one is asking for it to even scale well, but the option should be there. period.  Do they realize how pathetic it makes them look by removing it? actually, im going to email them now.   I'm livid.  I spent a lot of money and now I cant use my pc to its full potential.  And yes, my boxes all 4 of them say 4 way sli.   Wasn't a misprint or accident.  They were assumed and supposed to have 4 way support like anything else.  It was just removed last minute cause theyre scrubs.

any luck w/ this?  There HAS to be a way around it. perhaps not by modifying the INI, but the driver itself?  People are doing much more amazing things these days.  its a shame its not my area of expertise persay.  If I or any of the others with quad gpu's can help in any way.......

and why dont you use some common sense and realize newer drivers fix game issues and help performance especially with SLI which is the very thing trying to be used.

No, you cannot quad SLI GTX 780's. The only card of the current generation that allows you to run 4 cards in SLI is the GTX Titan. GTX 780 are limited to 3-way SLI.

Not entirely true. It is a driver limit and there are several modified drivers that allow for 4 way sli on the 780s

It doesn't work anymore, drivers 320.00 and above quad sli is locked in software by nvidia and can no longer be unlocked with a modded .inf file.

So use an older driver? Common sense much?

and why dont you use some common sense and realize newer drivers fix game issues and help performance especially with SLI which is the very thing trying to be used.

So you are saying that if you don't use the absolute most up to date driver always you can not possibly enjoy any of your games anymore? That's want you just said in my eyes.

we are talking about sli here where newer drivers can add profiles and have much bigger impacts on performance. sometimes sli can be almost broken until driver addresses it. its completely stupid to stick with an outdated driver just to use 4 way sli when you will miss out on the very improvements to make sli work best in the fist place.

Clearly you missed the fact that the newer drivers break the ability to use 4 way SLI.... so i'm kinda unsure what improvements you speak of.

are you really that out of the loop or is this some abbott and costello routine for you? I have not missed anything but is you that has no clue what you are talking about nor the comprehension to understand anything being explained.  let me break it down to elementary level for you...

you have to use an old driver for 4 way sli
newer drivers have newer game profiles and improve sli performance in newer games
if you use an older driver you wont get those improvements thus some games will not work properly or performance their best
you accomplish little to nothing for many newer games by using an older driver to have 4 way sli when sli just in general is not going to be running as well as it could in newer games with the newer drivers

if you still have trouble then these forums are not the place for you. lol

im running 4 780's atm and while I would appreciate NVidia firing the moron who thought it would be a good idea to remove a feature that has been present and is still present in every card except the 780's (as if people are going to spend 4000 on cards just based on that privelage as opposed to spending 3500 whats the damn diff)  I was hoping that there HAD to be a reason they did it (such as driver issues) that wasn't as shallow and ridiculous as the crap they seemed to have pulled.  ANyhow back on topic - as to be expected scaling isn't anything like 1-2 or 2-3 even, but there is improvement (atleast in benchmarks, I haven't had a chance to game yet) Whats odd is that every benchmark I have ran see's improvement vs tri sli except ffxiv arr.

Well, nVidia had to do something to differentiate and keep the Titan the flagship card. The 4 way listed on the box was an EVGA mistake, nVidia went and changed its mind apparently. Think the price gap is more than $500. If you wanted full potential of your PC, should have gotten Titans.

So I'm back, and if no one has noticed.. due to NVidia being greedy I dropped the 780's and went with 4 titans.  I had an extra card I couldn't use and I have always wanted to go surround so I used that as my excuse to live broke for half a year and got the titans.

Yay I got quad SLI!! Of course fast forward a few months and the 780ti came out and the feature that was locked out of the 780's and caused me to buy a titan was given to the 780ti's.  Go figure.

Its a wonder more people don't use AMD.  Between the obvious greed that almost leaks out of all they touch, software support has been actually getting worse not better.  Complacency and a new generation coming up = we're old news now I guess.

Naturally bad surround and sli support on 4000 worth of gpu's has me irritated :P
