My reference 670 died last week. I am currently waiting for my warranty replacement. I found a really good deal for an FTW and picked it up. I really need to go SLi as the latest games at 2560x1440 have started bringing the single 670 to its knees. I realize that the reference 670 will hold the FTW back. Is it worth selling the reference and trying to find another FTW or should I just SLi the two I have?

I would (providing both have the same amount of memory) just overclock the stock card to the FTW and sli them

they are both 2gb cards. the only thing i worry about is overclock ability of the replacement 670. the previous 670 was horrible. it was never stable at anything over a +30mhz bump. the FTW i got is running at 1300mhz and never goes over 65c.

well if anything, it wont hurt ur cards to sli a ref 670 with a 670 ftw, if it's a good deal then grab it.

it's just that the ftw wont see 99% utilization if the sli scales perfectly, because a "perfectly" sli scaled game will only run both cards as fast as the lower clocked card can handle. no real difference between that and sli'ing 2 ref 670s.

one thing i would do is put the FTW as primary card, that way for anything not-sli, you'll get the faster card to run things :)

finally got my reference 670 warranty replacement today. i overclocked it to the FTW speeds and i am impressed! my Heaven 4.0 benchmark went from a 492 (19.5fps) to a 1047 (41.5fps) on Ultra with 8xAA @ 2560x1440. the FTW is running at stock speeds and easily overclocks to 1300mhz. i'll play around with these some more, but i seriously doubt the reference card will hit 1300.

just had similar results in the Valley benchmark.

    single 670 - 990 (23.7fps)
    SLi - 2052 (49.0fps)

    Ultra settings, 8xAA, 2560x1440
