Jacob - thanks and appreciate the continuous work on this - trying to get the bugs worked out.  I'll give it a go - but probably won't be for a couple more weeks (until the March Madness contest is over - don't want to shut down unnecessarily  ).

Yah I don't see any difference. Why did the option to disable and enable USB 3 come back? I would like XMP profiles or basically my RAM to run @ 1866 as specified (it did using A05).

    Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/03/13 16:08:47 (permalink)
I ran fptwin64.exe from Command Prompt (Admin). Flash was successful.

I went into the BIOS on restart, Restore Defaults and then set everything the same as R21.   For memory, I had to, first, set the Memory Frequency Limiter to 1867 and then switch on XMP Profile 1 for my RAM timing to show up correctly.

The BIOS flash blew away Windows Boot Manager, bootmgr.exe, information.
I had to fix my bootmgr again using the my Win8 install disk, repair mode, and command prompt.
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

It booting back into Windows just fine after that.

    Edit1:
EIST is still throwing Kernal-Processor-Power errors for every core on startup when the CPU is OCed.
Disabling EIST in BIOS will disable overclocking abilities.

    Edit2:
I have been able to lower CPU VCore from 1.4v to 1.375v and keep 4.5GHz stable.

This BIOS update works for me. I flashed from A05 to R22, and now I can set VCore, Voltage for DIMM, and I am able to hit 4.6GHz  at 1.38VCore. Previously I was stuck at 4.3GHz with VCore at Auto (got up to 1.3 I think). I do have to set my DIMM timing manually as well because both XMP Profiles do not set the timings correctly, but I am fine with that. I left just about everything at stock. I am glad I waited and didn't sell the board.
    i7-2600k, OC to 4.6GHz, 1.38 VCore, Idle Temp 30C, Load Temp 75C
    G.Skils Ares, 4x4GB = 16GB @2133MHz, 11-11-11-31-2T, 1.6V
    Seasonic X-1250
    Intel 330 180GB SSD
    EVGA Z68 FTW
Still trying to figure out how to configure Turbo Boost so it is not running @4.6GHz at all times.
Thank you EVGA! This is what I have come to expect from you.

Check your Event Manager, do you have any WHEA-Logger (EventID 19) warnings? If so, you may need to increase your CPU VCore.

Which version Linx and Prime are you using?

EIST or Enable Intel Speed step does not work for me. I can not boot with it enabled. Using an i7 2700k. In AO5, R21,R22 and the stock bios that came with my board. I could not enable EIST. It would not boot. In all honesty. I'd rather be refunded for my board. EVGA has amazing video cards and power supplies. The EVGA motherboards are making me very sad.

    Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/03/16 20:17:33 (permalink)
First of all, thanks for continuing to work on the BIOS for this board.  It's nice to see IVB support.  With that out of the way, what sort of voodoo is required to bring back my IBM M1015 SAS HBA (PCI-E 8x) with this release?  The BIOS for the card never even displays during boot, and as you'd assume windows can't see any of the drives connected to it.  I went into the BIOS and fiddled with all of the fancy new PCI-E settings, disabling almost all of the new stuff, manually setting the PCI-E gen, enabling the warn on incompatible device option, all to no avail.  I can see the card in the Z68 BIOS, it's there and listed at 8x speed.  But the BIOS for the HBA never loads (normally happens right after the Marvell one on the board).  I went back to A05 and all was well again.  SAS HBA BIOS loads, Windows sees all 8 drives attached to it, pools using the drives work, yadda yadda.  Any pointers for non-video PCI-E cards with this BIOS?

Has to do with Int19 capturing. Was it working before?

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately messing with the Int 19 Capture options doesn't fix the issue.  With the old A05 BIOS for this board, the Int 19 Capture options were "Disabled" (this is the default) and "Enabled".  Everything worked just fine with it set to "Disabled", the BIOS for the HBA SAS card loaded and all was well.  However, with this new R22 BIOS, the Int 19 Capture options have changed to "Immediate" (this is the default) and "Postponed".  Unfortunately neither one lets the BIOS of the SAS card load.  This new BIOS is a nonstarter for me if I can't use my SAS cards, and I imagine other people needing HBAs/RAID cards might be in the same boat.

Set XMP profile 1 in the Bios (didn't touch anything else in the memory options) and it recognizes my Ram perfectly.

Wow really I don't know what to say. After turning on overclock mode I was able to set the XMP profile to 1. Strange bug I guess not too critical at the moment.

Out of curiosity, have you tried disabling the onboard intel raid rom? It might be fighting your HBA for that same address space.

I have the Intel SATA controller in AHCI so the RAID BIOS doesn't load.  I'm back on A05 at the moment, but when I have some more time this weekend I'll put R22 back on and throw in some more SAS cards and other add-ins just to see if the BIOS loads for any of them, but I'm doubtful at this point.  It would be interesting to know from anyone reading this thread if R22 actually lets the BIOS load for any of their add-in cards.

one more time.... 2013/03/20 13:24:02 (permalink)
I'm anxious to flash this one in place to see if I can finally overclock this MB without freezing at boot.

I've just about given up and relegated this machine to a WMC role and planning on _another_ build for the monster pc I've been waiting for.

I cannot _really_ complain ( but I am)..at $60 it was a fine deal given the assorted issues with overclocking, OK..so I paid a couple of bucks more for an overclocking CPU..it's still a good deal at $60. Now had I paid $260 like a lot of folks did, I assure you my post would be needing a pretty big bottle of tums to stomach.

I'll give this bios a go, but frankly speaking, I ain't expecting much. When engineers are handcuffed..there isn't much they can really accomplish on a cost/benefit ratio, especially on what is an end of life product.

I'll be paying a whole lot more attention to end of life these days as it turns out my 550ti video was also an end of life product. No issues with the card..finding another one is a bit of a pain ( it's a 2gb model)

I did enjoy most of the winter playing fallout new vegas and Falcon BMS at max settings, so If I replaced the MB on this build with something I could overclock, I'm not going to lose a whole lot of sleep over it. A processor upgrade would cost me far far more.

I've got stacks of old scsi disk drives and tape drives that cost me THOUSANDS over the years in my server closet..so to put the $60 ftw board on top of that stack isn't going to make me lose any sleep...might be suitable for framing in my QA hall of shame, net to a couple of iomega products and of course my $500 10MB jasmine "MegaDrive" and my 60GB Supermac scsi drive ( yeah..I've been around since before paper was made out of wood)

I hope this lesson was not overlooked by management, it would be a real shame if my next EVGA purchase had similar problems.

Oh yeah..got all my rebates last month..so that took a little of the sting out of this deal.

Has anyone got this working without any or minimal problems, the reason I'm asking is because I'm really hesitant on flashing to R22 because after flashing to R21 I've been having a lot of problems: Bootmgr, Crash Reboots( no bluescreen), Bootup Bluescreens and Overclocking seems unstable. <These things only occur with mild overclock settings i7 @4.2ghz and Memory @1600Mhz> As a result of the above problems, I have everything at stock settings. Which works fine but this is not the reason why I spent over $1,500 to build this Rig.

Just some friendly advice for people using sandy-bridge on this board (z68 sli). stick with A05, my i5 2500k runs 14 degrees hotter with r22. (from 30* up to 44*)
And A05 doesn't have that stupid xmp profile glitch.

So pretty much what davevt31 said :)

I am using the R22 BIOS and it is a major improvement but that is obvious. It is even an improvement in the way storage devices are enumerated. My external USB 3.0 HDD is available to Windows most of the time, and the big thing is that my phone does disrupt POST anymore as a boot device. A bug I made a big deal about with A05 only to be told by forum posters that it was impossible to fix, I didn't let it bother me. Well congratulations on the great BIOS to a great motherboard. I am glad it is way better than it was but I know EVGA wouldn't be happy with better I am sure they want perfect. In explanation to improve USB storage device enumeration the external HDD is not always available to Windows I can not really pinpoint the cause because roughly 8/10 it works whereas probably 0/10 with A05 anyways. It has worked when the USB phone is plugged in and I was surprised they did not conflict. Something is going on still though likely a conflict when another USB storage device is plugged in.
