IMPORTANT: Please read through the WHOLE of this first post as (for now) the information is just bundled in until I think of a logical order to group it together

Hey all,

So i'm going to be at home most of this weekend so I thought it would be a good opportunity to help those that may be struggling / don't have time to read into how to setup v7 client from stanford for the new QRB (Quick Return Bonus) GPU work units.

If you want me to set it up for you:

  • Install FAHClient v7 from Stanford
  • Install/Run Teamviewer
  • PM me on here or Skype me: Sleinous

And i'll do it for you!

You can find the v2.22 FAH core here: http://fahwiki.net/index....AH_Core_files_manually

During installation:

TheWolf
May also want to note that in the v7 install it has a place checked to start v7 after the install is done, that should be unchecked before clicking finish or be sure to already have the NIC disabled before clicking finish.
That or you can pick the manual start on the 1st set of option you see in v7 install.
Then V7 can be open, but will not auto start until you manually start it.
This would give you the time needed to unplug or disable the NIC.
Then you can config as needed, enable the NIC, then manual start V7.

For those trying on their own, we are adding this info as well...

You may want to do this for a 1st time setup & a possibility of getting a 8057 right out of the gate.
Do this after you have download everything you need to start the install & setup.

http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1794196
krillind8z

So I just found a ghetto way of emulating -configonly or tracker setup before it starts folding in V7. Unplug the network cable or disable the NIC, open FAHClient and tweak away, then plug it back in or enable it and hit fold...

Otherwise you can follow this little video I made:

Next up: Preventing Work from starting before you've fully configured your clients using the video above.

Opolis's explanation:

You can also go to the location you chose to install the "data" folder for v7, open the config.xml and add

<pause-on-start v="true"/>

within the <config> section before you start FAHcontrol for the first time.

TheWolf's handy screenshots:

When using the above <pause-on-start v="true"/> in the config.xml when opening v7 you now see a screen that looks like this:
On this screen you will now click on Configure, top left, a screen like this will appear, see image #2
#1

Here you will click the start outlined in red then save, witch bring you to image #3
#2

At the 3rd stage you can click Fold at the top to start all slots or pick the one you wish to start in the
Folding Slot section, by right clicking to just start one at a time. See image #4
#3

or pick the one you wish to start in the Folding Slot section, by right clicking to just start the appropriate slot.

Just wanted to add this in here also if it might help. The guide I did earlier for GPU2 and Fermi. It should work fine for Kepler and GPU2 also.

http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1794797

Also put one of my 480s in with my 680 today for temp till I finished everything I was doing for the GPU2 and Fermi write up and realized that the Kepler core is located in the Fermi folder which means you can't replace the core with those 2 mixed in the same system since Kepler GPUs won't fold on core 2.22 and Fermi lose a lot using 2.25. Just something for everyone to keep in mind.

Also my 480 hated the 310 Nvidia driver (since it's normally my 680 only in that system).

Fold on all!

I will be your customer as I am still new to the folding world.

All I've done is downloaded GPU Tracker V2 and auto detected, put my passphrase in and the team im folding for and started folding.

Yup, we're going to need to get you hooked up with FAHClient v7 from Stanford instead of Jedi's Tracker as from what I gather it doesn't seem to be pulling any beta units.

You got Skype?

Very nice of you guys to help out!
Sleinous, if you have enough time, maybe you could make a video for GPU noobs like me and post it on YouTube.

That's not a bad idea actually! What should I use to capture my screen?

Also pleased to announce that we have one extra QRB enabled GTX 570 in the fold now! And another 1/2 I assume once Jaskarn has his RMA back for his PSU :)

Awesome, and BR worthy for sure!  A video is worth 1000 pictures, isn't that what they say?

Did you mention that the core replacement procedure is only needed for Fermi cards and not others?  If not, you might want to put that in the YouTube notes.

The name change is just should you need your v2.25 in the future, if you never intend on buying any kepler, you may as well just skip the name changing

If you're using Kepler then you don't need to replace any of the cores as you need 2.25 for it to work

Sleinous - First, awesome job on putting out the helping hand.    I just made the move to the V7 (been using Tracker since I started folding).  I followed your GPU video and have my 2 580 SC's up and running.  Currently running 8054 WU - so we'll see how it goes here in a couple of hours when I get the next set of WU's.  Here's hoping I did everything correctly (my PPD went from ~40,000 to ~71,000).  So, looks like I'm headed in the right direction (fingers crossed).  Thanks again.  Fold on!

So using the tracker V2 I am never going to get these QRB GPU units? I have been getting 7623s since I started folding on Thursday.

No problem :) I think you can get higher if u use 2.22 core as 85k seems a tad low for a 550 Ti :)
