To Keep this all together, I thought I'd create a thread specifically for the purpose of discussing the implications of Stanfords introduction of the QRB on GPU workunits.

Looks like this is going to get heated.
Early reports in are showing up to 10x more ppd with the QRB on GPU units .

Discussion at [H]

How to setup V7 for QRB on GPU  (Thanks David12857)

It is early days, but if the results are any indication, this will be a quantum shift in Folding priorities from Stanford, which is something that Vijay has alluded to before.

We'll have to see how things pan out; whether the QRB will be adjusted, and if SMP receives a points boost to compensate.

My take is that if GPU Folding is that much more efficient than SMP folding (as the points may indicate) then the future is exciting for us at EVGA.

On that note, there are going to be a lot of people who have invested many thousands of $$$ on multi-proc rigs who are going to be feeling very angry and hurt by this, and that is not something to gloat about.

Lets remain calm and see how the situation develops, and remember that we all Fold for a cure.

Im still hurtin from the last changes...and what did I get ?  people saying take your lumps bud- lots from [H]

it's not like 4P users are losing points production like I did
all that happened is there is another avenue to select for big points now
and their team can opt to move that way too

sure another team that passed us might get mad...for the short term
I remember we did the same when bigadv was changed and i7 users were dropped to SMP
and a significant loss of points for the team... which in part led to the loss of our position.
we also did not adapt as well to stanford changes and run to 4P  like  [H] did when we had the opportunity to do so as well

as for the WU...it's luck of the draw... there are beta testers that haven't got any yet

Id still invest in a 4P... think of power draw against 4 580's
still cheaper to fold a 4P (if you have better chips)

Still too early to figure on final point values either
this is a benchmark test unit - remember that

This also doesn't stop any 4P users from adding a GPU you would probably gain more than you lose

big winners are SR-X and SR-2 systems - you get to run both bigadv and the new GPU units

Other big winners: NVidia ,The electric companies and research

I commented about this over in AB's "Keplers and F@H" thread, but will simply say "great" and it's time for GPUs to get some well deserved love.  I have a 4P and am perfectly OK with GPUs getting a significant amount of points love/recognition.  It is way past time for this to happen IMO and I'm encouraged to see PG providing that love (whether the initial points structure holds).  I hope it does hold.  2Ps and 4Ps have had all the points love for far too long and it is time to recognize the other Folders out there (GPU and standard SMP) with much better recognition for what they are doing, spending, etc.

Maybe getting the Supermicro 4P with the (2) PCIe slots wasn't a bad call after all?

I've got to keep popcorn at the ready for this latest entertaining event.

from a ppd/watt point of view, 4P is still miles ahead, it just costs a lot more for the initial set-up.

<edit> Now I think about it, not miles ahead, but still less than what a 3 GPU system will consume .

The most important thing more me is equal points for equal work.  If a GPU is that much more efficient than SMP, then it should reflect that in the points.  I don't want to see artificial points just to keep a certain set of donors happy, rather a system that reflects the relative Folding efficiency of the technology.

As well as research, given the amount of electricity donors use, Stanford have a duty to promote the most electrically efficient way to doing their research.

I know...that is what I did before deciding to build a 4P!    But if a decent portion of the current GPU QRB excitement holds, we may see people populating those extra PCIe lanes on 4P and 2P rigs.  Way too early to say, but speculation is so much more fun!

I wish the pic would show the actual WU from one of the 670's
instead it shows the 7020 SMP WU the 3770k is doing

all you're seeing is the total output for 2 670's and a 3770k

Grandpa over at [h] is reporting about 250k ppd on a 580.  After kepler optimization, I can't imagine what a 680 would produce.

How do you set the beta flag in Tracker?

Intel i7 3770K @ 4.5 Ghz. / Asus P67 Pro / 2 x EVGA GTX 980 SC / 16gb Corsair Vengeance RAM  / 2 x Crucial 64 gb. SSD / 1 Tb. Seagate / Corsair AX 850  / Corsair H100

Intel i7 3930k @ 4.3 Ghz / Asus Rampage IV Extreme / 2 x EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC  /  32 gb Gskill Ripjaws RAM / 256 gb Vertex 4 SSD / Corsair AX1200i / Corsair H110i GT

I think all you need to do is tick the adv-methods box in the 'Configure' screen.

v7
it won't change the core unless you select advanced and then pick up an advanced WU
8057 is not on advanced...you need beta flag set

for tracker follow the kepler instructions in the guide section of the forum

the new wu's take about 2-3hrs
tpf on a 580 is 1m23s..
which works out to close to 10k per hr or 240-250k PPD

Like others said these are in beta.

These work units hardly tax my GTX 660ti at all.
P8057
2 min 11 sec tpf
69% power
57 c
117k ppd

p8018
91% power
64 c
19.5 k ppd

P.S. These are @ FTW stock speeds.

Nice!
I, on the other hand, just picked up another 8018... sigh.
At least I picked up a 7015 SMP unit.  28k ppd is a lot better than the 13-16k ppd I've been getting with those 101xx WU's for most of October.
I did switch to the beta driver again really quick, just in case, since Kepler owners were recommended to install it.  Nothing adverse, but again, still on the 8018's.
Most likely picking up a 660ti or 670 in the next day or so, in anticipation.  660ti's seem to have steadied in price whereas 670's have dropped.  Decisions decisions...
Anyone else getting these 8057's?

If these numbers hold true, we're looking at hundreds of million points per day for the team.
