From TJ Lane on the Folding Forum: Projects 762x Testing Core v2.25 on Adv Folding Forum, Please be aware that we are rolling out a new version of GPU Core15, v2.25. This core includes support for the new generation of nVidia boards, the Kepler series. While this core has been extensively beta-tested and not shown issues, we are doing a controlled release to the general FAH community. Over the next few days, the p762x series will run on advmethods and require core15 v2.25. Your client should upgrade automatically to the new core. Please let us know by posting here what your experience with the new core is -- if all goes well, we will release to the entire FAH community shortly, so we can support Kepler boards. Thanks! TJ I have one of my GTX560 Ti's on -advmethods and I got an P7624 WU which downloaded the new core and the results are much lower than the old Core v2.22 My results, GTX560 TI SC at 900MHz and driver 285.62: Core v2.22: TPF = 5:35 - 13.4K PPD Core v2.25: TPF = 7:25 - 10.0K PPD The temps are the same (80*C) for both Cores... So I'm not happy with the new core.

So I'm not happy with the new core. I tested this a couple days back & reported it about 14 hours ago here. Your times looked a lot like what I was seeing on my GTX480. From my short testing of the new core vs the old core on older video cards "GTX260 GTX480 8800GTS" the new core make these older cards take well over a minute longer to do a frame. So, so much for any extra points from QRB on older hardware. Its like throwing us a bone with a string attached and pulling it back before you ever got it. I'm hope I'm wrong on how this is all going to work out but doesn't look good for us older GPU owners. Edit: sorry should have said GTX480 only, the others was something else I tested.

wrinvert just tried to grab 1 of these twice and got both 8018 on 2 different cards. Backup your old cores!!! Use the -advmethods flag to get the new core, but 1st be sure to backup the old core by renaming it to something like FahCore_15.ex1 just in case you need to go back. If renamed 1st it should auto download a new core auto since it will think there is not one in the folder once FaH is started. Edit: To check what version you are running. It should show the core version in the 1st part of the log when folding was last started.

hmmm. So very early on it seems to be slowing down the Fermi cards It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement in the Kepler performance.

It will require it to reacquire a core and without the -advmethods flag should default to the previous version.

8018 tpf 4m6s on 670FTW using v2.25
So on P8018 your GTX670 PPD = ~20.2K It's almost the same PPD as my GTX560 Ti using Core v2.22 and lower PPD than my GTX580 using Core v2.22: GTX560 Ti (Core v2.22): TPF = 04:10 - 19.9K PPD GTX580 (Core v2.22): TPF = 03:09 - 26.3K PPD Yodap, you can find that in the beginning of the FAHlog.txt, just before a new WU is started. It should look like this for Core v2.25: [22:15:14] *------------------------------* [22:15:14] Folding@Home GPU Core [22:15:14] Version 2.25 (Wed May 9 17:03:01 EDT 2012) [22:15:14] Build host AmoebaRemote [22:15:14] Board Type NVIDIA/CUDA [22:15:14] Core 15

Looks to me like the QRB will just offset the TPF and subsequent points nerf from the new core..... maybe.... time will tell. One thing about folding, you never get something for nothing

Thanks... I did one test on my GTX580 (at 830MHz) and also an ~25% increased TPF: Core v2.22: TPF = 1:27 - 23.7K PPD Core v2.25: TPF = 1:55 - 17.9K PPD I just noticed that there was a good discussion in the Keplers and F@H... A point of view as of 10/12/2012 thread, so I think it's best to discuss it further there.
