Hi,

I have been searching this problem on the internet for about 3 months now. A habdful of my games (mostly new) seem to lock up with a loud sound humming. I have to force my PC to restart. here are the specs to my PC

PSU  Kingwin  ABT-1000MA1S
GFX  EVGA GTX 570
16gb memory
i5 2500k cpu

I have read every story availible and eveyone seems to point toward the PSU. I don't see that being the problem with the one I have. My newest game addition is Torchlight 2. Sometimes I make it to the loading screen and sometimes I can play for 45min. I am not running any overclocking software. It is installed straight out of the box. I thought it might be a faulty hard drive, so I purchased a SSD and completly reinstalled windows. If you can help in any way I would really appriciate it. There's nothing like trying to brag about a system to only have it lock up when trying to show it off.

Perform a clean installation of video drivers...

#1 Download & Install Driver Sweeper & CCleaner.
    http://www.techspot.com/d...66-driver-sweeper.html
    http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup322.exe
#2 Click the start button, type in "change device installation settings" without the quotation marks into where it says "search programs and files" and hit enter. Change settings to "No, let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from windows update", Save Changes and exit. (Sometimes your older driver will want to reinstall itself after rebooting, this fixes that issues.)
#3 Uninstall NVIDIA Graphics Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Controller Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, NVIDIA Update,  NVIDIA PhysX Driver from Add/Remove Programs.
#4 Run Driver Sweeper and Select NVIDIA - Display & NVIDIA - PhysX and click clean. Click No for Reboot.
#5 Run CCleaner and use the Registry Cleaner and Scan for Issues and then click Fix Selected Issues. (Backup the registry just in case something happens, CCleaner will ask you to do this after you click Fix Selected Issues.)
    #6 Reboot your system
    #7 Repeat Steps #4 & #5
#8 Download the lastest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/Dow.oad/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
#9 Run the downloaded driver and select Custom (Advanced) Install.
#10 Deselect the following if you are not using them... 3D Vision Controller Driver, 3D Vision Driver, HD Audio Driver, NVIDIA Update. (Only things you should have selected are the Graphics Driver & PhysX System Software)
#11 Check mark Perform a clean installation then click next to install the driver.
#12 Repeat step 2 but change the settings back to "Yes, do this automatically", Save Changes and exit.

If the clean installation of video drivers fail to correct your issue try performing a clean boot of windows. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135#method1

If the clean installation of video drivers and clean boot fail to correct the issue please download and install MSI Afterburner and report back with what the temp is for the video card. You could also download core temp to check the temps of your processor.

    MSI Afterburner: http://download1.msi.com/...fterburnerSetup224.zip
    Core Temp: http://dl.installiq.com/d...a=13307&f=CoreTemp

    Other things you could try:
Run Prime95 to check the CPU.
Run Memtest86+ to check the Memory.
Update Motherboard BIOS to the latest version.
    Update SSD to latest firmware.
Buy a multimeter to check your PSU rails.
Test the video card in another computer.

    Memtest86+: http://www.memtest.org/

Thank you for the helpful info. I will try this tonight. My only concern is that my PC only freezes on certain games. I play Dayz for hours never with one hickup. I also play Skyrim with no problems. The problems come from games like Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, Dead Island. I will keep you posted on changes. Thanks again.

I want to thank you for the well explained solution to my problem. I did everything last night, and was able to play without a hic-up all night. Anyone with a similar problem, try this out. Thanks again
