I think EVGA's promotion for folders is great, I just fear that other teams or EOC will recognize us as a "sponsored team". Is there a clear-cut definition or rule for that?

I think this just falls into the realm of incentives. Personally, I have no problem with them incentivizing others to fold. If, however, they were to give graduated rewards for higher and higher points it could be considered sponsorship. The fact that EVGA's had a cutoff, I feel, differentiates us from a sponsored team.
The short is, I would not worry about it.

Also, I think the reason we aren't considered to be sponsored is because we aren't actually getting anything in return that holds dollar value. I think it's included in the EVGA bucks guidelines or Terms of Service that EVGA bucks are worth 0 dollars, so by explicitly saying that EVGA bucks have no cash value (they can't be sold, they can't be exchanged for cash, etc), they can them as incentives. This also takes care of the secondary market for "EVGA bucks"
Now, if EVGA gave away cards to folders, then it could be considered sponsorship since GPUs hold a well-defined value and can be openly bought and sold on the secondary market.
