Matrox Parhelia AGP 256MB & 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB Closeup:

For this system I also have an old CRT, which I do plan using for it, a Compaq S710 which does 1024 x 768 x32 @ 85 Herz, which is better for them older games :

I used the TFT to test it, even @ 1440 x 900 the Parhelia AGP 256MB still does a fine job at playing games like Descent 1 & 2 with DXX-Rebirth and UT 2004 without any issues @ min max 75 fps, as 75 herz is the locked herz rate of the TFT I used.

Thanks Drerex CryptonNite is an old 3dfx mate of mine he also has repaired many 3dfx, Matrox, ATI, NVIDIA and S3 VGA cards :)

He is one of our best contacts when it comes to Retro VGA card repairs

The age of this system is 12 years and 8 months, I built her on January 28, 2000, it's mobo and it's CPU's have never been replaced  nor RMA'ed.

this system was sold to a friend of mine in 2003 for 550 EUR that was for it's ram CPUs and mobo only and in 2008 I was able to reobtain it for 100 eur with this awesome steel case from Addtronics!

From 2003 to 2008 it served as a File & game server for 5 years 24/7 nonstop, it was backed up by a 72 hour UPS system, it never crashed nor rebooted during this long run time and still it's going on strong, this is the utmost reliable system I ever worked with.

It was cleaned every 4 weeks, so I guess that was it's savior heh

heh thanks James_L :)  Yeah all them i7's and Xeons these days or Phemom II's, FX's or Dual Opterons xDDD This used to be the best 12 years and 8 months ago, the Parhelia AGP 256MB is a design from 2003 btw :) even that I have quite a late build, mine is from week 01 of 2005, it seems they are still being used as VGA cards for terminals and such.

The Voodoo5 is handy for them good old 3dfx Glide games the Parhelia is great for internet and DX8.1 & OpenGL 1.3 games, all in all it has all types of API support this way too

The sound card needs power for it's external I/O Box, which that white power connector is for, just in case people ask this

Next I will post some screen shots of it's drivers you can also select the OpenGL version which is needed for a certain applications I can choose between OpenGL 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, I never seen such an option on any VGA card before, quite interesting

Such a shame Matrox bailed the gaming market. Would have been nice to have a third wheel to keep NV and AMD on their toes :)

As for Matrox not around for the gaming market I agree there, they have the know how but I think they are lacking the man the money to invest on this segment.

I also made a Mods Rigs page of this beauty

It's always awesome to see something like that get repaired. Even more so when 99% of people these days would throw it in the trash without even giving it a second thought.

    Thanks Zophar

And yeaps that is indeedly what mostly happens, but not with my oldies To me they can still be useful and they are fun to play with, even that I am a retro gamer, they really fit in well, they can play music well, so this one I hooked up on my Kenwood stereo system and I use it as a jukebox and I also play old games on it, Emperor Battle for Dune is fun on it and Descent 1, 2 and 3

    Looks great!

Hay thanks mate! hehe yeah these oldies need a good life now so renovating them and giving them my love is what I like doing most nowadays and just running them even the bootup i;s so awesome, it gives me lots of flashbacks on how it was 12 years and 8 months ago, I kinda miss those days, you just could buy Celerons or Pentium3's slap them in a 2CPU motherboard and hey there you go man a nice Duallie, etthe Pentium 3's even supported 4-way and 8 way CPU also, since there are systems made by Compaq that supported 8-Way SLot2 which was Pentium II/!!! Xeon and alongside the slot 2 slots there were SLo1 slots too, 8 of them, here a picture of this awesome motherboard, which a friend of mine @ 2CPU.com has with 8 Pentium!!!/EB 900Mhz 2MB L2 Xeons:
    here the mobo:

The gray slots are for Slot 2 P2/P3 Xeons the brown slots are for P2/P3's

Here the system and it's eight 900Mhz 2MB L2 P3 Xeons , after you open it's mobo tray rofl
