Just started happening...

not sure why... I tried verifying cache, defrag, installed new video drivers, reinstalled game...

L4D2 works no problem

failed to lock vertex buffer in cmeshdx8:lockvertexbuffer

Greater explanation:

Well, I recently became intimately aware of the issues with certain Nvidia cards / drivers regarding the latest TF2 update. I'm not sure if my experience is totally unique, initially I suffered horrendous load times, and my screens (both of them, the focus display and the other) would go solid black, and some times lose signal, then come back, then blank out again, they would also turn completely off. It would literally turn them off, I'm not entirely sure how, I am running picture in picture in one of them and it totally goes blank, usually when I lose signal the picture in picture image would persist (it is via the monitors hardware and not a software solution). I would eventually get to the menu (after seeing it in various states, with and with out buttons between the black outs), some time after that started I was getting a bizarre graphical artifact. Once I got to the menu I had what was essentially "snow" all over the screen, it looks to be bits of text from the console - not entire characters, just bits of them. They would move jump on the screen. It would increase in intensity until it covered most of the screen, and would persist from the menu, to the loading screen and into a game. This would always happen the second time I launched the game on a particular boot, if I rebooted it was fine, until I closed the game and reopened it. Finally it caused a blue screen, the failure was an NV dll, though I can't recall which - by the time I found the file name in the message it was gone, though there should be a memory dump of that crash. From that point forward I would get "failed to lock vertex buffer in cmeshdx8:lockvertexbuffer" instantly after the menu would load. I was running 29X.XX and I updated to 304.48 beta (2 GTX280 in SLI), same results. When it would send me back to the desktop my main card would down clock to the failure mode speed. Defraged the game and verified cache, same results. Reinstalled the game and it ran once, perfectly. Loaded quick, played for a little bit, then on the 2nd load, it went right back to the vertexbuffer error. Left 4 Dead 2 runs fine... Anything in particular that was added in this update that I should be looking at? Maybe there is a solution in the driver INF file?

I can't see any pics at work, but there is a command line that I use for using a different version of Direct X which solved many of my multiple monitor gaming problems with TF2
