Seti.Germany is holding another competition, they're the ones who brought us the Boinc Pentathlon.  There aren't alot of details out about it yet, and it's still a ways away.  It doesn't seem like its a team-based challenge.

http://www.seti-germany.de/Wow_2012/44_de_Willkommen.html  Link for all those interested.  I might just check it out, it's been awhile since I've done any Seti work....

It looks like participants sign up in groups as opposed to being with your team, and they track those groups and individual efforts.  So it's almost like the Folding Madness challenge in a way, but I could be missing something or reading too much into it since it just posted and the email said the site wasn't completely finished.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal  and some background info concerning Seti and the reason for this challenge.

Very cool.  I had no idea about the wow! signal, I always thought of SETI as just a fun side project (listening for aliens).  I am in for that challenge if we want to form a group or groups.

I am down for the challenge also. I just got a new server well a Cisco UCS C200 M2 with an INtel Xeon e5506 @ 2.13ghz. I am running big adv on there. I am still looking around to see if I can put it to better use.

There aren't alot of details yet, not sure if it would look "bad" if everyone from one team all went for the same group, especially since it doesn't appear to be an "established" team competition.

I plan to join the Capricorn group....

Easiest thing is to just attach Seti to Boinc like any other project.  There are optimized applications that require extra work to set up, I haven't played around with them so I can't help with that....

GASP! That was sooooo easy to add to the BOINC... However in seconds it says I am failing SETI.

So we can sign up for any group?  It looks like members from other teams are spread out amongst different groups.

SIgn up for whatever group you want.  This isn't about what team everyone is with, it's more of a fun challenge....

For those who are interested, it starts in 25 minutes.  Seti is down right now, it seems.  Not sure if they did it in advance or they had issues from their Tuesday maintenance....

Yeah... had problems with SETI this morning... Berkely website was offline too.  No problems... I'm sure they'll fix it.

Has anyone had success with SETI?  The website is still down for me and I haven't pulled any work units since the contest "start".

As of this morning I'm still clueless with SETI, everything is down and not getting any work in or able to send work out.

As I've posted before, I started with Seti back in 1999. When they had a decent budget, it was fun and the screensaver actually worked and looked cool! I stopped when I got into folding. Last year I tried it out again and the same thing that I had started experiencing before I got fed up was still a problem; Lack of consistent server activity and available work units. I see it's still the case, and that's unfortunate...

Thank you for your long term efforts man. Pretty cool to read and I look up to you for it.

In other news... I stopped doing SETI because I have done 200+ units, only to see 170+ of them still pending after 45+ days. I have no issue getting small amounts of credit, but I do have a big issue with seeing 75%+ of my efforts remaining "Pending Validation" for so long. It makes me wonder if they will ever be validated and caused me to stop...

Seti isn't the only one with long validation times.  I keep seeing points for projects that haven't been crunched in awhile....

Seti's site is back up, they had some issues with the database and are still monitoring it.  I'm able to upload and return work, so it seems like it's working....
