I have a core 2 quad Q8400. I'm going to swap it with a core i5 processor for free. Can anyone tell me which is better , and whether this is a good idea?

    Yes, it was a great idea... i5's are much quicker than the older C2Q's.

    Yes, it was a great idea... i5's are much quicker than the older C2Q's.

    I agree, had a Q6600 and moved to an i5-2500k and it was a huge update

    i5 >>>> your Q8400. Be sure that you're also snagging a P55/H55 chipset board, because the i5 is incompatible with the LGA 775 socket that your current motherboard sports.
