yea so i tried doing this on win 7 64 bit and the autoexe file does not work, it doesnt show up on the usb when you put it on it or copy it. i had to enter like a short line of code i forget that it was it updated and then when it loaded back up the board kept turning on and off over and over again. i just unplugged the power and all is good again, just had to reset the board. but this guide can be tricky is not all of your data is on the disk and if u dont provide like any failsafe code for nabs who dont know what they are doing so fix this b4 we have an issue like mine where a kid cant start up his comp because he used ur bad guide. it started when you said we just press "Y", but u can't just press Y, you need to enter a line of code.

I came to a dead end when it came to entering a line of code when I was trying to flash the Marvell controller (I don't know DOS) Any idea what code can be used?

Alucard666 Nice guide bud, I vote BR! I agree but saying it's 100% safe is a misnomer. I have flashed hundreds of boards without error but I have had failed and totally fubared a rom chip from a flashing too. Bottom line there is a risk involved. The tutorial is good but any time you flash your bios you have to ask yourself, do I really need it?, first. Secondly If you are having trouble with your board always call Tech support and make sure you have there blessing to flash your bios. It just may well be something else causing your troubles. Start here in the forums by starting a thread with your specific trouble and if what ever needs fixed cannot be without a bios flash contact Tech support and point to your thread which will expedite matters with your support agent. If a bios flash fails, which it can happen, Tech support will be your best friend at that point. It's not uncommon in a situation like that for them to send you a new bios chip (if replaceable) if the flashing fails. Otherwise you risk your warranty and may not be covered if things go wrong.

It is an excellent tutorial the only thing I would ad is in this picture you show an overclock will attempting a bios flash, that is a real bad idea or picture to show in a tutorial for flashing and as was said above check with evga support before flashing if you are having issues with your board and need advice before flash is done. Good tutorial though very well put to gether BR for this man.

This was linked in another current thread and it's not hard to see it has been visited frequently which is why I added my 2 cents worth. Maybe someone could clean it up and do it over but considering the time and effort it takes for little appreciation (no BR) I doubt that will happen maybe I'll give it a whirl unless someone beats me to it. We really should have a decent tutorial for this process it would be nice to see EVGA do it with proper disclaimers of course. Then again maybe they have one drawn up to give (email etc) folks that call tech support. Those of us that have done it many times don't think twice about performing the task and tend, when offering advice, to over simplify leaving to much to read between the lines for the novice. Hence the need for a comprehensive tutorial such as this that we who offer advise can point to with confidence to help others. The easiest way would be to have RaffieKol moderate and clean this one up a bit, He/she still host the files and hasn't pulled them down so maybe there's a chance we can see that happen but it's definitely BR worthy IMO.

I agree but his method will work instead of resetting the 1st boot device and explaining all that so on one hand this is good but I would add that CMOS can be cleared and reset with the proper command line switch "/cc" which points to another couple changes I would make to the AUTOEXEC.BAT #1 the batch file should backup the current bios "/sy" then it should Clear CMOS data when programing is complete with "/cc" switch. I also use "/cd" switch to clear DMI data when programing is complete followed by the optional "/wb" switch to flash the bios boot block. So the batch file would look like this " awdflash bios.bin /sy /cc /cd /wb" without the quotes. In any case all thoughts on the subject is appreciated.

Yeah but I just flashed my BIOS Sunday using the default autoexec.bat commandline switches (/sy only) and it worked fine, so what's your point there? Why do you need the /cd and /wb switches (specifically)? Prove it. I submit to you that since a reboot is necessary and automatic right after the flash, and instructions include resetting CMOS W/the button, there is no point in using those switches.

The "/sy" switch does not backup the current bios. The others are not needed the flash will occur but it every tutorial or thread post I've read everyone suggest to clear CMOS 1st before you flash. In the event you do not do so, the the switches I'm recommend do it for you. Furthermore even if you did so prior to the flash there is no harm done by doing it with the switches again. Many who give advice also suggest to backup the current but give no method of doing so. I submit the recommended batch file eliminates commonly forgotten steps that inevitably end up being reported as a failed flashing. I don't need to tell you how often that happens. Redundant.... ? maybe ..... thorough definitely.

Probably the best method so far. Most of the work is done for you in regards to the software other than the reformating the USB, downloading the bios, renaming and saving it to the USB.

Here is the original method with complete instructions on how to flash your bios by "3oh6". http://forums.evga.comarchive/tm.asp?m=671353&mpage=1&key= It is a tried and true method I have been using for a few years. I have even dedicated a thumb drive for this method as all that needs to be changed is the .bin file. Every flash I have done has been done per "3oh6"s instructions and every single one has completed successfully. On page four, post # 110 "3oh6" even goes so far as to make it an automatic flash after the code is typed in with nothing being required after the code is typed in other than shutting down the pc, clearing the cmos and rebooting to the new bios then adding your settings. Here is the instruction set to type in when you get to that point-" what you want to make sure you do is to not touch anything until it gets to the point where it asks you whether you want to flash it or not. some have been having trouble with that but i think they say it just exits out if they do. you could also just add /PY to the command you type which tells AWDFLASH to say "yes" for you. it would make it automatic and not require any input from you. your command line would look like... awdflash <bios filename> /sn /cc /cd /wb /py " If you follow his instructions, download the 2? programs he has set up and type the above command line in, your flash will start immediately without you even having to answer the "yes" to do you want to continue. At the prompt you will type awdflash then a space then the .bin file name then a space, then a forward slash then sn, then a space, the a forward slash and so on until you finish with the py and hit enter. After you hit enter it's off to the races until you are told to remove the thumb drive, shut down, clear cmos and reboot then add your settings to the new bios. I hope this helps you folks as it did me when I didn't have a clue as to how to flash a bios. Since then I must have done at least 10-15 flashes, all successful on my several machines. Good luck to you all. :)

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

EVGA has tried contacting 3oh6, because it now seems like the website he has been hosting the downloads and picture walkthroughs is down. So this walkthough should work fine.

Oh look, it made sticky status! Yay! Sucess! EVGA has recognized it, and even gave him a BR! What's more, they have indexed it in the BIOS 82 release thread, as opposed to the old instruction thread referenced above. Yay, way to go EVGA! And thnx HazMatt.

The easiest method by far is to download the iso and burn it to a CD ba-da-bing done. The only thing that makes this better is all you have to do is change the .bin when another update is available and you can augment the auto execute bat in the event you want to save the current bios. Once you have made the USB stick it can be dedicated for the task an is way more versatile making this the method of choice for elevating yourself to true geekdom

Does anyone know if a similar method could be used to flash other components, like the Marvell SATA 3 6.0 GBs controller? I'm thinking that it can, but I'd need to extract the Marvell flash utility from the CD, and then rewrite the Autoexec so that it would call the right function. Of course, even better would be to put them all together and write hte Autoexec so thath te user has a choice to pick which file to flash....
