but the MOBO looks ok. I'm still not gonna risk anything and i'm RMAing the PSU and motherboard... Right now i'm using this.....

My netbook minus a screen or keyboard. Suprisingly it works without all those parts, which is a good thing considering after I make some kind of protective shell (maybe just what used to be on it) it's going to be a carputer. But man, I miss my PC already lol.... this is rediculous.

Also if anyone has a spare 1366 socket protector i could use one asap. I have to dig to find mine but if I can't hook a brother up :P
Found it

One more thing, and this is to EVGA, if you could send me a pre paid label that would be awesome! I have no cash to spare at all but am going to ask a few ppl in the mean time. School is starting up in a week and i'll be screwed without my PC.....

If it was me I'd go for the E758 SLI in B-stock which is 129.99.  I know myself and others will agree that this may not look the best but the performance and stability is spot on.

Interesting. The 4-Way classified B-stock is only $180. That's like a fire sale on that price.

yeah well this is the first time I've had any real issues like this, not upset or anything, just hope the rest of the stuff is ok. If I could buy something else trust me I would lol, at least as a back up. i did find my CPU socket cover though, so that parts safe. Tested the PSU and all the voltages are coming through fine, but, who knows. Still better safe than sorry, and hopefully Coolermaster is fairly easy to RMA through,

Not the first time I seen this happen, High overclocks will fry the 24 pin connectors since it pulls too much power, Some boards have dual 8 pin CPU plugs for this reason.

No overclock was on it. Not even what's in my mods rigs, not since I went back to air months ago, so that wasn't the issue :P Either way I just want to know if the board itself is OK. I'm hoping it is though, i don't want some refurb replacement that has new issues, can't afford issues no more. In the mean time, i guess it's a good time to sell all my GFX cards and hope to get enough for sli 3gb 580's. So who wants to buy 3 570's and a Duke Package for as close to the price as 2 3gb 580's lol

Thats not for this reason. The CPU's power draw does not affect the 24 Pin... Thats why they have a dedicated power connection in the first place.

Its the PCI-E that draws power from the 24 pin. Thats why some add a extra 6 pin or molex power near the PCI-E ports. This really was not much of a issue until around the time the 480's come out.

So when you get to around 3 or more high end video cards than your 24 pin is at risk. The plug was just not made for that much power draw. They never though card makers would even try to draw that much power.

And thats why EVGA released the power boost. to provide more power to the PCI-E slots to prevent this.

Short anwser. Video cards darw power from the PIC-E slot. The 24 Pin powers the slots. More slots used = more power draw from the 24pin = more heat and leads to melting.

Yeah but at which point is it that the second is needed?  It's one of those completely random things that happen.  I've had my 930 OC'd to 4.21 w/ 1.38v and yet to notice any issues.  I've bigadv folded it and now running WCG and I keep a eye on that part in question all the time without any issues so far ( knock on wood).

So this is the question then for us all that we need to find a clear answer too.

The second 8-pin CPU connector isn't needed unless you are extreme overclocking with extremely high voltages and cooling with ln2 or something.  The CPU doesn't draw it's power through the 24-pin connector however.

don't feel bad...mine blew up with two 580s at stock...luckily, asus replaced my mobo with a BRAND NEW one...and also paid shipping both ways with advanced rma (ship to me first)...XFX my power supply, replaced me with a brand new one as well...no advanced rma however, had to ship to them first...I just went out and bought another power supply and flipped the XFX one

now i'm running an evga power boost and hopefully no problems....good luck OP!

Ugh. I feel for u guys. Now if evga would replace me with a new one that would rock. Things not even a year old yet...still waiting on coolermaster to even respond, don't know what's taking them so long. That psu is barely 6 months old.

They take forever... At least the few times I've dealt with them. I finally had to complain on their forums to get things moving along....
