This BIOS is ONLY for the EVGA X58 SLI Classified Motherboard (part number 141-BL-E759- )

S22A Updates:

  • Use a CD Burning software to burn the .iso image onto a blank CD (Nero, Alochol 120%, MagicISO etc.)
  • After it has burned, insert CD and restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Now set the CD Drive as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select CD as the bootable device.
  • After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

USB FLOPPY Installation - Recommended installation method
  • Download the following executable:  E759_S22A.exe
  • Insert blank floppy disk into drive and run executable
  • After the floppy has written fully, restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Now set the USB Floppy as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select USB Floppy as the bootable device
  • After flash remove the floppy, power off PC Completely
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

Um, dumbest reason to release a BIOS update ever?

Is the change-log really it?  Really?

I wonder if this was the only change.
Someone said their profile didn't work after applying the update, while you should never use old saved profiles it leads me to think other things were also changed.

Wow, tested it yesterday and wow...terrible update

It breaks S3 completely, stock or not.

This update needs to be taken down, and fast.  I'm back on S227 for now.

What is the best way to clear the cmos before updating bios? I want to clear my saved profiles from previos bios but I don't know how to do it. Can someone help me out?

Also, what is the best way to flash the board? I like doing the CD way but I am running out of CDs. I have flash my board with USB method but I have read that sometimes there are problems flashing it with USB flash drives.

    Thanks.

Try prolonged S3 sleep time. 12 hours at least.

Peter, please think what you guys changed besides the 2TB partition support...there must be something else that changed.  It cannot be that adding support for 2TB partitions broke S3, which is most definitely broken now.  I have not had S3 problems for a very, very long time, since the very earliest BIOS revisions.

I can tell you I am testing with S1&S3 option selected in the BIOS, plus most other options such as Keyboard Wake-up, etc., enabled and can either not enter S3 properly or cannot wake up from it.  As I am typing this now I am back on S227 and I have not had any problems with S3.  Computer was already in S3 several times, and over night it was in S3 for quite a few hours (8+) with no issues after some pretty heavy workload the night before at overclocked settings specified in my signature.

the change is sequence , previous is 1. poll clockgen 2. poll qpi ratio, now is 1. poll qpi ratio 2. poll clockgen - that made my test setups able to cold boot high bclk + s3 resume higher bclk than previous way. so u sleep then u press power button and it didnt wake up, or it does wake but if u sleep or 12 hours then it doesnt wake?

this is always bizarre many times i see that it becomes what people see is a reverse of what we see, so maybe next time we should test reverse, when we find things get worse maybe users will then see an improvement :D

Short term wake up from S3 is OK (1-2 hours). Long term wake up from S3 is no good (8-12 hours).

So I am assuming this change is a new change for S22A BIOS?  Is this the same change as it is found in S230 version on k|ngp|n's forums?  I had no problems with S230, but S22A completely breaks my S3 sleep.  About 99% of the time I cannot even enter S3 successfully (the system appears to enter S1 partially and cannot recover out of it) and if I enter S3 I cannot resume from it.  For me it is pretty much immediate that I cannot wake up.

My EVGA X58 LE motherboard is rev 1.0.

Any overclock over 3.9 GHz affects wake up from the sleep mode.
Upon wake up it is cycles through the Windows resuming process rather than going straight to the Windows.
Will EVGA consider fixing it in next BIOS releases or it is hardware thing? Does it have to do with rev 1.0?

Peter, I just decided to give this BIOS another shot vs. older BIOS, S227, S225, and older and in every case S3 works fine but in S22A it is broken.  If the other changes are the only difference going from S227 to S22A than that must be it...the sequence you guys changed completely breaks S3 and/or causes it to malfunction/not function correctly.  I will gladly volunteer to test your changes in the future in cases like this if you need somebody outside to try things out and report back.  As it stands, S22A is unusable for me.

Non of the biosses is usable for me, i cant use VT (for vmware x64)
The bios shuts down the pc before it starts up again, but that wont go before i pull the powercord first.
Even a 40$ board i have can do this. it even can S3.

Yeah, that's a long outstanding and very annoying problem.  That one and shutdowns with VTT over +350mV which happen on a lot of boards.

seriously if this increases coldboot bclk screw s3. Is this not the flagship overclocking board? Why prioritizing making it sleepable. Just shut your pc off, takes 2 seconds ;)

#1 This BIOS did not increase bootable BCLK for me.  I can cold-boot the same BCLK as in S227.
#2 This BIOS definitely did break my S3 which means it broke core features of the board and is therefore not good.  I don't know to to phrase this more simply for you.  This board is not just for LN2 benching.  If it was then why put anything on it...why have network, sound, anything.  They should have just released a bare-bones board for benching and market as such.  That is not the idea behind the Classified and you need to get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

    Re:EVGA X58 Classified (E759) - S22A BIOS Released 2009/11/17 11:11:04 (permalink)
After this bios update my motherboard takes forever to turn on compare to past bios updates. I have vitualization on and I know with that on takes a bit longer to turn on cause it completely shuts off. Now after it turns back on it take a long time to post.

Also, today after a cold boot my computer did not want to post at all! My screen was black and it showed FF. Nothing was showing or posting at all and I could hear my computer trying to start up. I had to hold the reset button to make it start up again.

Also, why in the world does the Classified have to turn completely off when you set virtualization on? I have not seen other motherboards do that for example ASUS.

Getting a bit disappointed in my Classified board lately. I think I am going to RMA my board.

It's not your board man, it's the BIOS updates that need to get up to snuff.  The VT stuff should have been fixed a long time ago, and regressive updates like this one that break S3, cause slow startups, no posts, etc., should never make it out the door.  I realize that they cannot test every possible change, but changing the boot sequence like in this case can have serious implications which clearly it is for at least some of us.  I am pretty sure there are more of us too that would affected, but people (a) don't post here or (b) don't update their BIOS.

Please restore the normal boot sequence in the next BIOS, and if at all possible fix the VT enabling so that it does not power cycle the board every time on every boot.  Finally, if that whole shutdown issue with VTT over +350mV can be addressed that would be just stellar.

I know I'm not going to update my bios anytime soon due to these issues. Mine works just fine, and no need to muck it up!
