As I have been contacted in the past I was contacted again earlier this week from zodac at OCN below is the PM sent to me and instead of ignoring it I figured that those who want to step up should contact zodac or at least we nominate a Captain or 2 as it is too much of a job for just 1 person. Hi l337h4l. Been a while since we spoke. :P So, I'm sending out PMs to the rest of the captains, in the hope that we could all meet up again in the CC forum, and come to a decision on a format for the CC this year. I know I don't wanna have the same backlash we did last year, so having something to take back to the teams by March/April and adjusting from that would be pretty handy. :) Anyway, there's a fresh thread here (I know we were talking about it in an earlier thread, but I though it'd be better to start fresh with everyone again): zodac (overclock.net)

I feel where you are coming from Barbarossa but I could not ignore OCN reaching out and not let everyone else know. Besides I see the Horde is starting to produce a bit more now

Funny this should come up right now. The past few days I've taken an informal of 10-12 of folders that have been around these parts a long time (those people probably should repost their thoughts here). Obviously I couldn't include everyone and primarily decided based on whose I came across first (don't be offended if you weren't included and post your input here instead). Everyone I asked was in favor of participating, most regardless of the points system in place citing the good it does to build our team, unite our community and create bonds across folding teams. only one or two were very interested in a revised point system. Seeing that they have every intention to revise the extremely poorly designed point system they created, there is no reason we should not have intentions of participating at this time. Anyone that put any actual thought into the previous point system could see that it was bound to fail horribly. Please note, however, that the goal is to create a completely fair point system that does not favor any team, including ours. This is essential for the long run stability of the Chimp Challenge - another year or two of a fail point system and it will leave a sour taste in many mouths. Obviously the nature of folding makes this task extremely difficult to achieve, but it shouldn't be hard to do better than last year. If the revised point system is as poor as the previous one, then we can make a participation decision as a team. At this point, I believe we should be electing team captains and actively engaging in the discussion to create a fair point system for everyone involved.

troy8d No offense taken although I am not extremely active in the forums I do continue to support EVGA. What ever the decision of the community is I will follow along. Personally the last 2 years "rules" were specifically written to knock EVGA out of the competition. The original point to the chimp challenge is to push our machines as hard as possible with a point goal. Everyone knows with the exception of [H]. per the original concept of the CC no one can touch EVGAs folding power. So they handicap the contest so they have a shot. BUT EVGA is already handicapped trying to organize 1700+ folders. It is not who wins or loses but how much can we all fold and how much teamwork is involved to organize hundreds or thousands of folders for one goal.

As troy pointed out some members were already discussing this internally(privately). We we hoping to come up with ideas, and some ways on motivating the team (hmmm...maybe motivating wrong word)...getting the team excited enthused to start another year of the CC and bring back our little jade moniker. we know there is going to be discusssion on a new formula/rules between the captains.. lets give him some ideas before they get together what I would like to see is this team coalesce around the contest 100% (full participitation) get the word out...get as many members involved and see if we can persuade /wakeup old members(some that left ..some that still fold but don't care/don't know) to come back and fold for the team...every bit counts and helps I see recruitment and getting the team out in unison paramount to bringing back the chimp and sending a message... "this team will meet ANY challange" It may mean that we might have to all go out and try bringing in new members in a big recruitment drive as well PS: it's also nice to sling some brown material (poo hoo) at the other teams and have some fun if you don't care about the race or points ..do it to sling some mud and join in the live talk fun

Before we do anything else we need a team captain(s).

Also, we need to remember that the 'captain' isn't a 'leader' so much as a mouthpiece, lest we have another repeated powergrab where there is NOTHING to grab at. Internally, really, it should be the Team Representative (s), regardless of if the other teams choose to call them 'Captains'. Yes, it's a small detail, but one I think is quite important - We are a large team, and quite a lot of us are tied up by other activities as well, so while a single person may feel overwhelmed by the task of representing us to the combined Challenge teams/representing the teams to our forum - two or three could easily work as a team to keep information flowing properly. To the other teams, multiple 'captains' could imply that we're looking for greater influence - however, balancing the work load among Representatives is less imposing, in my mind. Just my $.02 on the Captain issue. Also, I'm quite proud of the fact that the other teams see us as such a threat, and am honored to be a part of the family. If we continue to be the team that steps up to face the challenges, no matter HOW steep the handicap, regardless of guaranteed loss, whatever, that's all the better. I couldn't be more proud to be a part of that culture/mind set.

I am interested in participating no matter what. My only experience was last year's CC and it got me hooked despite the rule argument and placing near last. Judging by the crunching movement, out community seems to have a large amount of people that just want to contribute regardless of rankings and points. Let's get organized and start it off going full steam ahead!

As I said before and as I agree with drougnor 2 or 3 captains is a good Idea. The captains make up a handicap unfortunately I think the last 2 years was more of a "here is an Idea" and everyone when with it and had no time to change it or rethink it before the event started. I had a handicap system 3 years ago which made the teams perform in the original spirit of the CC which was calculated based on the percentage of full team points vs CC points. Basically it was a matter of whom was more organized with the best team work. The original Idea would have let small teams compete as well.

The goals is to improve the awareness of science (folding for cures) get the message out and bring in new folders. That means as a team we do are best to bring in new folders (talk to neighbors, co-workers, anyone who will listen). It also means we do are best to bring most of the team out this year. No excuses...lets get this team geared up it's also about supporting your teams... no matter what When the chips are down... Im coming to help the crunching team I expect everyone else are willing to step up and do the same in return yes we are bruised and sore from Stanford changes and the past contests. I feel them too just dust off yourself, then get yourself ready to stand up and put up the good fight lets have some fun and some good smack talk at the CC chat.

My $0.02 on the bruising we took last year - It's a point of pride to me that people felt they had to stack the deck that severely against us, and if they feel the need to try again this year? It just means we're holding steady as the best, that's all!

chimp challange won't be around till after March madness last years chimp we switched our user name(folding name) to EVGApes and folded the duration under that name you have to re-prime your pass-key for it (or get one already primed) it's just a all out point race last year it was based on 6 months of performance ie - the handicap we are just establishing who is gonna represent us in the next discussion for this years contest there's plenty of time to see what the new formula will be and get the team ready this year. get the word out to stay in touch with the forum for updates

It just means we're holding steady as the best, that's all! Perhaps I am naive, but where many people see intention I see incompetence. In my mind most people thought they were creating a fair contest, they just weren't able to see how poorly it was designed. If I remember correctly, while a few of us strongly advocated against the obvious deficiencies of the system, a good portion of our team did not think the system to be extraordinarily unfair before the contest started.
