Using evga precision. My fan speed cannot go past 77%. As a matter of fact. It does not even show up to 100%. Any ideas? Does Nvidia have the card locked to 77% or something?

Using the latest version of Precision?
Open "user controlled fan settings", where do you see the dotted line on the highend?

Dotted lines are right at 77%. Looks like fan speed is locked with in the bios from Nvidia?

That does not seem correct, I thought the BIOS was set to 80%

What driver version are you using, and what version of Precision/Afterburner?
Its always best to run a version of Precision/Afterburner that was released -after- your Nvidia driver was, to avoid issues.

Running latest drivers and Precision X. Manual only lets me go up to 77%.

I have a newer 550Ti FPB and it went to 100% since day one.

I can answer this easily. The older FPB's and OEM cards use Nvidia's stock bios fan lock of 77%. Later, EVGA released an unlocker bios for their cards to apply to the older cards, and may have been pre-applied to the newer ones.

i5-2500K Currently @ 3.3Ghz (soon to be water cooled and pushed to 4.x GHz range)

Ah I see now. So, it looks like I am screwed ever getting the fan unlocked to 100%? I would need updated bios from Nvidia directly correct? I am sure they do not provide them to customers and only to oem pc makers?

Yah, you'll have some trouble finding a way to get it too 100% without voiding your warranty. Fortunately the 550 Ti runs fairly cool, so 77% is more than enough IMO. After that you're just adding unneccessary noise. If you're running out of spec temps with 77% and decent caee airflow, that's a RMA sign anyway.

there is an unlocker for the cards. link below. unlocked both my cards, both run fine now. :D

    http://cdn.evga.com/BIOS/VGA_BIOS/1556_fanunlock_1.0.zip

Make sure no programs are running in the background, and double click update.exe.
Press "Y" to begin the update.
DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS!
After update, restart PC. Reinstall the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers after bootup.
