Man........ That is a lot of good teams we passed. F@H gave us a huuuuuge head-start! Can't wait to see what we can do as we grow.

This is an awful lot of fun starting on the ground floor of something that means so much to humanity...

This is getting exciting!! Love to see the momentum we are starting to create... We have five different projects listed now

Placing # 265 in the world on their list and point scale is one seriously exciting measurement to look at....

I just went over to that website shared above to see what we had accomplished.  Man, that was quite the deal for a Team that is basically in it's infancy!!  I'm gonna say it even if it is an overused statement...We Rock!

So I see

And for a general comment to this thread....

Just to keep things in perspective... I am not bringing this up so we can run to be #1 in everything. I think it is best to be number one in a place or two. But not overall. We simply do not have the man power or reach to do that any time soon.

Add that to us being so new to DC Vault I would hate to create focus on their way of measuring to become how we decide to measure ourselves. Personally I see a few flaws and unbalanced ways they do it. That does not mean we cannot use it a one of the measuring tools available to us as we grow.

Many teams have at least ten years on us. That is to much ground to make up in any short goal time period. But keeping our focus on comrade, teamwork and getting work units completed is a fine way to maintain course.

And then once we are big enough we can talk smack and have good hearted fun times as we chase each other to the top... As long as we never lose touch with why we are doing and who we are doing it for, I will support it with everything I can...

Always keeping it perspective.  My thought is much like when I began folding... there is low hanging fruit.  Climbing like others have into the top 100 of the folders for EVGA is just not going to be possible for me.

Same goes with crunching.  I won't be one of the top producers but I think it's great we are moving up.  Perhaps one day we'll be number one.  Regardless of our standing in the future or in the present, so far it has been a remarkable climb for a two week old team.

I tell ya, my focus has been so far removed from "points" with this new "crunching team", I could go for a very long time and not know if we're number 10000 or 1.  I'm finally focused on the cures again and spend more time reading about what our efforts are doing than ever before.  I'm happy to say that I don't care about my standing on this team, just that I'm helping to solve these world issues.  That is enough for me.  I love the way this thing is designed and that it removes me from competing with hardware, points and every other form of distraction as a donor.  This feels like "home" for me.

I got caught up in the numbers race also. I made it to 133 in F @ H for team EVGA. in the process of doing so I left off crunching. I also forgot why I started. It was to try and help out and find cures that are needed. The main thing is to find a project that touches you in some way. Stick with and and befor you know it your stat will look like mine from WCG. My main focus is cancer. I have had several family members die from it. So i am doing what I can to fight it.
 Crunch on.

Re:Crunching@EVGA is now at DC Vault! 2011/11/28 18:12:21 (permalink)
It wouldn't be smart for me to be all about points with as many projects as I crunch for.... Collectively, I get about the same as I would if I put everything towards one project.... I help out on things I think are important by giving my CPU time to work on these projects.... Yeah, it'd be nice to be recognized for finding the largest prime number to date or cruching the task that unlocks a cure to a disease, but that is all I would expect.... I didn't do the research and lab tests that created the data we're crunching and folding, I didn't do the programming that allows us to help out, I'm not the one who gets the call at 0200 to fix something when one of the project servers goes down, I shouldn't be getting anything really in return for something my computer did when the tasks it gets is pretty much the luck of the draw....

The points are nice because it make a competition out of it and everything is a competition, it causes most of us to donate more to help out more.... Without some sort of scoring system, how many of the big crunching and folding farm owners would still have them? I have no need to have 3 laptops and a desktop and in the process of building a second desktop, I only crunch on one of each and I plan to get one of the laptops back up and crunching when I get around to replacing the CPU fan.... It maxes out at 512 mb for ram, the points gain from it will hardly be noticeable but it's an extra task or two everyday and hopefully that much closer to helping out in the end....

Enough with that, forgot where I was going with it, it takes too long typing out that on a phone....

It boils down to doing what you can because you have the will to do it. I know that I will not get famous for crunching or folding. It is the personal joy that keeps me going.

Good grief, you typed all that on a phone?!?!?

DC Vault's main meaning to me is that it's the one place that integrates our team - it puts all of our distributed computing efforts into a single spot.  I don't think we need to think about our standings there; it's just a nice place to see them all at once.  The scoring system actually favors those that spread their resources as widely as possible, whereas we will always have a huge focus on folding@home.

Now see... All these responses are why it is the right time to regain focus as a team. Look at all that. Bless you all for all you do and will do.

I love the multitude of reasons and that is why all of this works. Folding, Crunching, volunteering and so on. Having the points is icing on the cake for me. I do like them. I too got caught up in them to a certain extent. Nothing wrong with that as long as a person can keep their head in the game (Or at least get it back ). Besides... Now I have four systems working for the cause(s) with a high producer in the planning... So we all win. Even if the scores on the monitors show a different order... For me it is about helping. Even those here on these and other forums. And is why I donate so much time in person in my community and here. It all leads to go things...

Just like the announcement of PG with the adjustments... Look at the good coming from that. It is healthy to be challenged. It is healthier to persevere...

And I mean that...

AB... One Damn proud member of a team doing it for the right reasons.

Any team named crunching@evga should auto-populate, correct? How long does it take for them to show on dc stats? I know there's some that haven't shown up yet but my page shows I've got credit and part of the team but they don't show for he team page....

Well, any team named "Crunching@EVGA" should auto-populate "at the next stats run" according to Rusty.

so if they don't show up with the next one, we need to contact him to manually add them?  I can understand why MilkyWay doesn't show, it just came back online within the last 24 hours so the units I returned under the new team haven't posted yet but the others were showing on my user stats page with points before the update this morning so I don't see why they wouldn't have shown at the vault yet unless it is pulling based from the other stat sites, MilkyWay and the others haven't shown yet....

I can contact him in a day or so if they don't show up after his next stats run, but I haven't looking in to the timing of his updates.
What other projects should be on there?  I see a number on the Free-DC cross-project stats that aren't on our DC Vault list, but then some of the projects there aren't in DC Vault at all.
Is there a difference between SETI@Home and SETI@Home Beta?

Seti@Home Beta is the site for running any of the beta applications for Seti. It is separate from Seti. However, I don't think we need to worry about adding this one to the DC Vault as I doubt we'll have many users run tasks under this project. Albert@Home is also a beta site and is for Einstein@Home.

I think our team is making great progress in several BOINC projects and we've just climbed up 5 rungs with an increased of 5220 points to our Overall Team Score (OTS) today. So, our Overall Team Position (OTP) is #135 now after having amassed an OTS of 115,922 total points.

Spinhenge@home has been removed from the scoreboard hence our Crunching@EVGA team has shot up to Rank #108 in the standings ...simply impressive, really.

If you check today you may see 16th.  But no cause for alarm, there's a stats outage over at distributed.net.  I'm sure once that's resolved we'll be back in 15th and closing in on 14th.

None of us is as strong as all of us.
