Hi there,

first of all, I apologize for my english i'm french.

here is my problem. I am trying to install Win 7 ultimate SP1 x64 on a raid 0 of crucial M4 64Gb (firmware 009), I got a message when I reboot computer after installing Windows.
I have the "typical" message: "DISK BOOT FAILURE". So I am asking for your help. I don"t know where I am wrong. Updating M4 firmware from 002 to 009 didn't solve my problem. My motherboard BIOS is up to date.
The controller on to I want to install my raid 0 is a Marvell 88SE9128 (bios 1.0.0.1012). So do I have to install the latest marvell bios, but, i don't know how to.
Without raid, I can install windows on those M4 and on this controller without problem and no problem with the cold boot. But I bought 2 Crucial M4 to create a raid 0.

Here are my technical specification:

eVGA x58 classified 3 (with the latest bios)
I7 950
12 Go G.Skill PI
XFX 5970
2x Crucial M4 64Gb
Bios is set on AHCI mod.

Many thanks for your help.

You will get much better R0 performance from using the Intel ports, even though they are only sata ll, and have a lot less headaches as well .
The marvelle ports on your mobo or any mobo for that matter are not able to provide enough bandwidth for R0, they stink quite frankly.
Best bet is to secure erase both drives, install W7 in R0 with the Intel ports with fresh install.

You must be right doorules,

here is the answer from the technical support of crucial

The Marvell 912x controller cannot be used to raid sata 3 SSD's.  It's not powerful enough.  Actually it's not powerful enough to run even one M4 at its full speed.
You'll need to setup the raid array on your Intel sata 2 controller.  Or upgrade to a more modern motherboard with sata 3 in the chipset such as an Intel 6 series board.

thank you for the answer.

I didn't install any irst driver, and for the rom, I have the latest bios, which is version 83.

Right now, I have few more problems. I can't boot with crucial M4 on sata II port (Intel controller), I get the error number 75 (hard drive detection), and I don't want to create my raid 0 on the intel controller, because I don't want to disable AHCI mod on the Bios. So I think I'am in a dead end.

If you put the ssd's in raid mode, all other drives in raid mode but not part of the array will default to achi mode.  Your only option for raid is the Intel controller, short of getting a raid card which is another matter entirely.

Re:eVGA x58 classified 3: Disk boot failure on Crucial M4 Raid O on Marvell 88SE9128 2011/10/09 04:50:31 (permalink)
final update, I hope. I couldn't boot on M4s because after I cleared CMOS, mobo was set on IDE mod instead of RAID or AHCI. Secondly, I had to unplug all hard drives and SSDs of the mobo except M4s because windows wouldn't create at the installation the 100Mo partition for système, don't know why.
But right now, everything is installed and works fine, and finally I managed to make this M4s raid 0 array works.

Doorules, I have installed the latest IRST driver (thing I've never done before), don't know if this is important or helpfull but it's done.

Once again, thank you for your precious help.

Here is my final configuration:
case: Cooler Master Blue Flame edition (found brand new on eBay for 300$)
power supply: Antec 1000W
mobo: eVGA x58 classified 3
Intel I7 950 (not OC)
12 Go G.Skill PI
Plextor Blu-Ray drive
XFX 5970 with xtrem accelero cooler (not OC)
Crucial M4 64Gb raid 0 on intel controller
3 others SSD: Intel 80Gb + Corsair Force Series 128Gb and 240Gb
keyboard: steelseries 7G
mouse: steelseries Xai
double Samsung LCD display 2232 BW and 2233RZ

thats it
